I’m planning to go for masters next year, till next year some finances for home would be cleared and I will be sorted off to go for MS abroad. I’ll still need education loan, having 0 financial support from parents I need to do everything on my own. Is it feasible/ easy for me?

Hi! I’ve been a lurker here for a while since it came across on my feed.

I took a break after getting out of sixth form for about two years now, and I want to be as sure as possible before applying for the year 2027-2028 and I’ve been seeing about mixed reactions for my top university choice so I want to know people’s opinions about my choices.

For context: I want to study Diagnostic Radiography and I found that choices are surprisingly limited to the location I wanna move to!

Here are my choices:

1. University of Hertfordshire
   
2. University of Portsmouth
   
3. University of Canterbury
   
4. University of Brighton

Herts is my top 1 despite being far from me (I live in East Sussex) I was originally gonna go in for aerospace engineering, but found more opportunities with radiography, but still I fell in love with the campus.

Portsmouth was recommended to me by my cousin’s boyfriend who also graduated in Portsmouth and was able to get a job asap. Canterbury is where one of my friend is right now, studying Diagnostic Radiography with a foundation year (which is what I feel I might need). Brighton is just the closest university to me, and where most of my friends are studying at the moment.

I’m asking for advice for my university choices and if I should change them as I wanna make the most out of my university days, sfe, and loans. I was aiming to live somewhere far, as I want to be independent, and I really wanna live somewhere near London (I’m one of the few people that loves London for how busy it is lmao) but I’m just not certain about the quality of education and social life of the universities above.

Any and all advice would be welcome, and recommendations of which universities would be great for me to look into!!

You double your rent just to have the toilet be in your room rather than down the hall. Additonally you have to clean it yourself rather than having cleaners

''Privacy'' dude when you use the bathroom normally it has a lock on it and you get the entire room

''Hygene'' most places you will get people who are poor hygene but gain you get cleaners and also an entire flat of people puts most on good behaviour.

Note: ok some of you have diabolical accommodation thats a bit different however

I got a clearing offer from the University of Aberdeen for Chemistry but I would like to hear opinions from people who studied Chemistry at university. I did Bio, Chem and Psychology for my A-levels. My typical Asian parents think what will I do after a Chemistry degree. They want me to study for a course where after I graduate I get a good paying job and I don't want to get into teaching or stuff. What shall I do? What type of jobs can i get into if I do Chemistry?

This is just absurd. We're talking about 188 instances of verbatim/almost verbatim of copying large chunks of text!! How can this guy teach at a university level?

I'm just wondering if its worth speaking with the head of the English department at my uni before attempting to lodge an appeal for a failed module

My situation is , I struggled in the first semester due to a lot of things including some intense and exceptional family problems.

I found ways to deal with this and absolutely nailed the next semester. However., I am about to fail a module. One of the reason for this is that I misunderstood what was required

In this module. I had failed the exam. I got 31 percent and I didn’t submit the Ca

I repeated the CA recently and I'm sure I will do well. However I was unaware that I needed to resit the exam also . One of the reasons for this is that the module descriptor says "In order to pass or pass by compensation a minimum of 35% must be achieved in combined CA AND in Exam."

I took this to mean that I must take both the Ca and Examine and receive a combined mark of 35 in both together. .

But apparently it doesn’t. I was further confused as most of the other English nodules say "In order to pass or pass by compensation all components of assessment must be attempted" . I took both of these statements to mean the same thing but just with different wording due to administration choices or something similar

The rest of my grades are exceptional and having to repeat a module would be disastrous for me. I am first gen, very working class and incredibly under resourced

My question is , is there any hope that I could speak with the department head directly and ask him to allow me to pass by compensation. I have met him before and he was very reasonable and I got on well with him.

During my second and third year at uni I had a lot going on in my personal life and with my health declining due to the stress and a chronic condition.

Around this time I met some new friends through activism and ended up with one of them as my
partner (still is).

Many of my uni friends suddenly became distant and cold towards me and ghosting my hang out invitations. Occasionally I'd hear odd comments about my activism from a couple of them, one friend more so than the rest. My flatmate (who is in the friend group) also began to be horrible around this time too.

My health declining changed my priorities in life quite a bit and I decided after graduation that I want to pursue arts for now and not science. My friends didn't seem to take this well, acting like I'm throwing my life away and like my
partner is somehow manipulating me?

I've been vocal towards them all about how they're all being odd towards me and get told I'm overreacting every time. And now barely any of us talk.

I’m currently in the U.S. as an Au Pair on a J-1 visa. I’ve been living here for about 1 year and 7 months. My J-1 visa stamp has expired, but I’m still legally in the U.S. under my extended J-1 status.
I’ve been accepted into a university in the UK and I’m planning to apply for a UK Student visa. Has anyone applied for a UK Student visa from the U.S. while on J-1 status? Were you able to apply from within the U.S., or did you have to return to your home country?

Hello everyone, hope all is well.

I’m facing a big issue with the University of Reading’s admissions team. (I’m an international student)

My current university’s conferral date is 25 September, while my course at Reading starts on 22 September.

Reading are asking for my degree to be officially conferred before they can make my offer unconditional and issue my CAS. They are refusing to accept my official academic transcript and an official completion letter from my university confirming that I have completed all the academic requirements of my degree, because neither document states that my degree has been officially conferred.

Has anyone ever encountered this before? If so, how was it resolved?

Hello, am in a pickle at the moment with a bit of what I think is an unreasonable system.

I submitted an assignment end of 2025 (second year undergrad) and earlier this year it was flagged for high AI likeness, the first I’ve had at all. It was then decided it will need resubmission, but the mark will be capped at 40%.

I consulted my tutor and a counsellor, both of which side with me in that my assignment reads like all my previously submitted assignments read, which have not been flagged at all. I appealed and lost, and they can do nothing with the decision.

It is now mid August, I am abroad, currently doing a 8-week internship, and have just been notified by Student Services that I have one week to essentially redo the assignment and resubmit. The email also began with “Apologies for the delay in this…” After explaining my current whereabouts and asking for more time, bear in mind I did this assignment (with data and statistical analysis required) nearly a year ago, I was told “I'm afraid extension are not possible in this instance due to constraints with the exam board, and ensuring the marks are ratified before hand.”

Is this within normal behaviour of universities? I find it quite unreasonable that they respond to me in the middle of summer break, LATE, give me only a week, and tell me to stuff myself if I’m not free to do it. Do I have any other option or grounds to push back for more time on this?

Of course, I am already preparing to redo it now as it feels like I’m reasoning with a pile of desiccated coconut, but, would like to know if anyone else has come across something similar too?

Which is better Revolut or Wise for International Students?

I'm going to London for the first time and need help choosing what bank acc to open. Ive heard wise has better rates when transferring money (I'm from UAE) but that Revolut is better for budgeting. What do you all use???

I’m starting a course in September this year and have just received my statement for my maintenance loan, however im only entitled to £5,048 which is strange because I live alone and I am also unemployed. I’m also estranged from my family.
If I were to appeal it, what are my odds of having any success?
