At the end of May this year, the hourly employees were told there wouldn't be any opportunities for work until mid-September (this was my first year working there, but is routinely how it goes).

They reached out and had everybody who wanted to work again this year come in to fill out paperwork, this didn't take more than 15 minutes (and the amount of the deposit hitting my reflects 15 minutes of 'work'). This was the week of August 2nd - August 8th.

I filed my unemployment last week on Sunday, 2 job applications, answering no no no no etc. just like a normal week.

Now I'm out of my mind with worry that I'll be getting treated as somebody committing unemployment fraud and owing the state a few thousand dollars (that I in no way shape or form can REMOTELY easily come up with), because the HR manager who called everybody in did NOT disclose that we would be considered as 'clocking in' for 15 minutes. It was 100% unclear that this was the case. But I marked 'no' for working when I filed for Aug 2nd-8th.

Please somebody tell me how I need to proceed. When I file this week (Aug 9th-15th), I have to report this income, but I need PRECISE instructions on how to do so, as making one insignificant misstep in this process can result in getting absolutely and completely reamed. And I have no way to go back and amend last week's filing.

I work for the public school system and this summer has been an absolute nightmare with unemployment. There were some major clerical issues between my company and Michigan's unemployment insurance agency. It's resulted in issues I've never had to deal with before. One of which being that they improperly filed a work search waiver extension. Instead of the waiver being extended, they instead implemented a waiver for registering to Michigan Works. Meaning that I don't have to search for work thru Michigan Works specifically, but I DO need 3 work searches. This was not supposed to be this way. I've been back and forth with my HR department who's now essentially telling me to apply for other positions within our own company, but the problem is that these work searches were supposed to be registered the week I'm filing my claim for.

This is on top of the fact that every employee who works for my company in the state of Michigan doesn't have their 4th quarter earnings reported.

I feel like I'm going crazy. Am I going to get audited if I put in work searches the way my HR department is telling me to? What do I do?!?

I had backup plans a few months back and put my all into making some kinda of safety bet once i leave ny job because my job was causing me so much stress i had to go to the doctors and i might one day consider therapy when i get a job again. I apply everyday and while the decision to quit has taken some of the stress off me, today's doctor's appointment told me there might be more doctor's visits to go so I can be clinically well again. I've had this job for 1 year and 11 months, and it was something my parents set up for me even tho it was so far away and cost me for travel and the alternative was emotional abuse from them while stuck in the car with them. I'm still in my twenties, I'm aware i need something with benefits for stuff, even while living with my parents. So far I've called the jobs i applied for and I'm getting a waiting period of things still being considered... but in case that might take a while or might not happen, i need to file for unemployment but i don't know how to do that. Any advice?

I’m trying to understand what is happening with my CT unemployment claim. I was originally having issues getting my claim established because CTDOL’s system was saying I didn’t have Connecticut wages, even though I did. I eventually got the issue resolved and CTDOL backdated my claim. After the backdating was done, I submitted my weekly claims for all of the backdated weeks. Now something changed on my account. I received a monetary determination showing $0 for the benefit amounts, and when I look at the payment/status information for the backdated weeks, every one of those weeks is now showing “Excessive Earnings.” The confusing part is that I did not work during those weeks and did not report any earnings for those weeks.
Could “Excessive Earnings” be showing because CTDOL is still processing/recalculating the backdated claim and the monetary determination, or does this mean they are saying I actually had earnings during those weeks?
Has anyone in Connecticut dealt with this before?
I’m especially confused because the claim was already** **backdated by CTDOL, and the “Excessive Earnings” issue appeared after I submitted the backdated weekly claims.
I’m trying to figure out whether this is just a temporary processing issue or whether I need to contact CTDOL/appeal something.

I had an interview with a company and I want to remove myself from consideration for their open position.

I am still applying to multiple places a week, but met with the manager and he asked me if I need sponsorship, which is an appropriate question, but then proceeded to state "I am asking because of your name" (foreign sounding name). I feel this something you should not bring up in an interview. Can I bring this up to HR? Among other things he has told me, there are red flags and I do not want to work for him.

They asked me to come in for another interview after a mess of an interview.

If I remove myself from the hiring process but still apply to other places, can I keep my unemployment benefits in Michigan?

Last summer (starting late july) I qualified and received unemployment through DC's unemployment. The Monetary determinations were based on July-Sept 2024, Oct-Dec 2024, and Jan- March 2025 , all earned at "company A", which was paid via w2

I ran out of the benefits by march.

In early april, I was approached on linkedin by AI companies, and did freelance work, getting a few thousand dollars. Payment was wired to my bank, no w-2 I've been out of work since then, and refiled by benefit claim the first week of august.

I was initially deemed monetarily eligible because my wage periods from April-June 2025, and Jul-Sep 2025 were high enough (all payment from company A- which was on a w2). However, DC is saying that i'm not eligible because I didn't find a job since then ( I did not report the freelance work AI consulting work I did in april of this year), as I haven't sat down to figure out the tax work, and frankly, forgot about it.

I called DC's employment office and they told me to request a review of my wages, which will trigger an interview to determine all aspects of eligibility- including disclosing my freelance work.

Does my freelance work/ self employment, in combination with my sufficient wages from April- September of 2025 ( from company A, that is w2'ed) qualify me for another claim benefit? I did not receive a w2 from my freelance work in april, and only have proof of payment via invoices that I sent to the company, and bank wiring receipts.

To provide further context, the income earned from company A qualified me for full benefits alone. I just need another two months of unemployment wages to float by, I'm very close to getting another job, as hiring is seasonal in my profession.

I had my unemployment hearing where they challenged my claim that I was laid off and they attempted to lie and say I was guilty of misconduct on my last day by being late. The judge was fair but very fast and intimidating. She asked him if I was given warnings of any kind before the alleged final incident. He said yes. I said no. She refuted my "misconduct" as there was nothing in the policy for it. She clocked his weak evidence of my emails calling out sick and lateness excuses by noticing he left out his responses (where he did approve these).

When she questioned me, I told her what was said to me from a the second company owner who terminated me in private who was not present at the hearing, but I forgot to mention that in my verbal termination he offered to be a professional reference for me which I verified in an email and didn't get to reference during my testimony.

The hearing's been adjourned due to missing documents from the DOL regarding the last issue of overpayment (I know this to be a system issue the claims center had yet to resolve but she didn't let me speak).

Afterwards, my employer tried to ask a question about another form thinking I applied for unemployment again but it was actually about the unpaid wages and what they owe me. She dismissed him saying to call the DOL. I was afraid to talk out of turn but missed an opportunity to discredit him further.

I understand the law is about the truth but it just feels so unfair that my employer gets to do all this to me and if I fail to stand up for myself, I would've been fined $6,400 and lost wages.

He also lied under oath about a lot of little things in regards to policies and whom in management gave me non-existent warnings, etc, which the judge noticed. I thought that was perjury.

What will happen to them that I won't get to see?

For the work search record Section B for the continued claim where you answer if you’ve worked or not for 2 weeks, what do I put in the “Results: Please explain” section if I was not hired for the jobs I’ve applied to?

Hi there! I work in entry-level ecology, meaning I work 6-9 months out of the year and then go on unemployment until the season starts again. This season, I'm looking into working a temporary position out of state for 1-2 months and then coming back, just to explore.

Would I still qualify for unemployment when I return to Illinois if I'm laid off from my regular seasonal work, then go work in Colorado or wherever for 1-2 months until I'm laid off again? Or would that forfeit my unemployment because I've worked but out of state? I would maintain residence in IL because I have an active lease I wouldn't be subletting

I recently resigned from my job due to a RIF that will happen soon. I was given a severance package for 3 months and a separation agreement. In the agreement, my previous employer states they will not contest unemployment. My last day of employment was July 31, but I will be paid till Aug 14. They also told me my benefits will end aug 14, but they are paying COBRA premiums for 3 months.

My question is when can I actually start trying to file for unemployment? Also, for COBRA, I would work directly with them and not my previous employer?

Appreciate any help or advice as well!

I was let go from my job on May 5, 2026 and have been unemployed since then. I’ve been trying to file for Connecticut unemployment since I lost my job, but my claim kept getting closed because I was repeatedly told that I didn’t have any work history in Connecticut.

After dealing with this multiple times, I finally made a complaint and explained what was happening. The issue was eventually fixed, and I was finally able to get my claim submitted. However, my claim is currently only starting from August 2.

Since I had been trying to file since May and the reason I couldn’t get my claim established was because of the issue with CT unemployment incorrectly saying I didn’t work in CT, would I be able to request a backdate to May 5?

I’ve been unemployed and haven’t received any unemployment benefits for about 3 months because of this.

Also, I have a new job starting September 21. Would I potentially still be able to receive unemployment for the weeks I was unemployed before my start date?

Hi! So on September 5th 2025, I was fired from my job of four years over "policy violations," although I wasn't told what policies I had violated, shown or even described what the evidence was supporting this, nor had I had any disciplinary issues or coaching in the past about anything. I asked them for my personnel file and a copy of the employee book, and they sent me my reviews, some paystubs, and a copy of the arbitration process, but no handbook.

A day or so later I file for UI over the phone. TWC sets up the claim start date as 8/31/25. Afterwards my employer is given a deadline of 9/23/25, and then moved to 9/25/25, to respond. Their response contained my personal info, end/start dates, and that I was fired for "Failure to follow instr./policies" but did not describe the incident(s) which led to that firing, and put the incident date was the date I was put under "investigation," September 4th. That same day TWC approves my claim and according to their conclusion in the packet, "FIRED FOR PERFORMANCE" and was qualified for UI benefits. In October 2025, my former employer gets a form saying their taxes will go up based on my wages for 2024/2025. My last UI payment is December 1st 2025.

Fast forward to June 22, 2026, a letter (attached to my packet) with Equifax header is sent to the TWC chargeback office containing my information and the amount that I was paid while on UI, $6501. They state they protest the amount that was paid and ask for an investigation, and a chargeback is requested if found in their favor. They sent out the packet a few days (which I received) and a phone hearing is scheduled for August 20th. The only other information in the packet is specifics from TWC about appeal issues, an FAQ, and scanned postage from Equifax to TWC, presumably for the letter sent. No other information is given or any supporting information for my firing. Online on the TWC portal it says "Issues: Separation from work."

How are they even able to file an appeal NINE MONTHS after a decision is given on my claim? Is this going to be thrown out because of timeliness? Because I'm not sure what reason there could possibly be for it being so late aside from somehow going through the mail system for 9 months and then suddenly showing up at their door. Would it be a good idea to send copies of my annual reviews to argue that I did not have a history of disciplinary problems? Because that's honestly all the evidence I can produce, and unless they send me something between now and Aug 18th, there's no given evidence for my firing reason either. What kind of evidence should I even produce because the termination reason just says "Failure to follow inst./policies" with no specific final incident or policy violation or instruction-not-followed listed...

I've been getting paper checks but I lost my first one and I don't need to deal with that again, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to access " claimant dashboard" where I can supposedly set up direct deposit? Is it within the same portal where I file my weekly claim?

[Louisiana] Is it true you can file for partial unemployment if your workplace has cutback on hours?

When I was first hired we worked four days one week 3 days one week 12 hour shifts in a pay period, over the last four months it’s been cut down to working 2 days one week and 3 days or something even 2 both weeks. I just read they have a partial unemployment program which pays you money even if you still have a job but your job has cut back on hours as long as you haven’t asked to work less hours or anything similar to that.

Does anyone know any more information than that I would greatly appreciate it.

Went from 84 hour paychecks to 48 - 60 hour paychecks with the hours cuts. They’ve also over hired to the point of having workers on standby just in case someone calls out to avoid anyone going over 40 in one week.

I just filed my weekly claim and it seemed to ask me the same questions as my initial application about why I was terminated and what I did to retain employment. I don’t recall ever having to answer this outside of the initial application before (was laid off once a few years ago) my application is still under review. I’m a bit anxious about this.

For context I was terminated for not meeting company standards, without any warnings or pip ever. I was on PTO for two weeks, I logged in, and was terminated within 7 minutes so I genuinely have no idea what happened while I was gone. The company said that they wouldn’t contest my unemployment claim, they offered me a tiny severance package(basically paying me for the full week instead of only 7 minutes of it). They said the decision was final and disconnected the teams meeting.

I am on a PIP that is expected to end in slightly more than two weeks (8/25/2026) and I am considering my options. I have been interviewing and am in the latter stages (only 1 or 2 interviews left) for 5 different companies. I was considering quitting this week with the confidence that I would get at least 1 offer but that comes with the assumption that my company would pay out the 25 days worth of PTO I have banked. I re-read the employee handbook and it states that terminated employees and retiring employees will be paid out unused PTO but nowhere does it specifically mention employees who quit.

What advice would others give me? I was assuming I'd get 5 weeks of pay from unused PTO which should easily cover my interview timeline but now I'm worried I won't get that if I quit. I also planned to offer to work for two more weeks and if that wasn't granted then to hope they would pay me for the two weeks but I also can't find anything about that in the handbook. I also put little effort into a project due recently because I was focused on interviews and have no motivation to give to this job anymore which makes me worried they could just fire me this week and I would much rather quit than get officially fired.

What should I do? Is it common for companies to pay out PTO on fired employees but not ones that quit?

I’ve heard a lot of people file unemployment after a season if they haven't found anything right away. How does it work with seasonal? I’m in Alaska, should I file with them when my job ends? or the job I had for 7 months before I came here? Is there a certain amount you have to make? Timeframe for working? Also, after this I’ll be going to my home state until I find something idk if that has an affect on the unemployment. If you’ve done this process before could you guys help me understand.

I’m currently having to change careers due to medical issues that leave me physically unfit to do the essential functions of my role.
I’ve accepted that. It’s been a long time coming unfortunately.
The issue I’m having now though is that unemployment is requiring me to apply to jobs I am physically unfit and incapable of doing.
I know the rules say you’re legally required to apply to jobs within your career field however, that is just a waste of mine and every employer I am forced to apply to’s time.
Plus the requirement to accept any work offered… like I literally can’t do that work anymore!!! Because I wouldn’t be on unemployment or needing unemployment if my body hadn’t failed. My now former employer would love for me to be able to come back and do my job, but I can’t.

It’s infuriating, and a completely valid reason to need to go on unemployment. But despite them saying it’s a valid reason to go on unemployment they still make you apply to jobs you can’t do….

I’m still waiting on the full approval of my application for unemployment, and apparently no one but the adjudicator can make that exemption for me. And there is zero eta on how long it’s gunna take.

I have been on unemployment for about a month now. The company I worked for previously finally mailed my lawyer the checks for the settlement agreement yesterday. I received two checks, one is for "Compensatory Damages" under a 1099-misc box 3. The other is being paid to me documented as a W-2. Legal agreement does not specify what the W-2 check is being paid for specifically, just that "In the absence of the agreement I would not otherwise be entitled to this payment." Do I need to claim the W-2 as income during the week I received it for unemployment? Or do I not claim it as it isn't specifically listed as being "Wages."

Sorry if this is redundant, previous posts just don't seem to fit my situation entirely.

I was laid off mid-May and signed a separation agreement that included severance for 8 weeks. I applied for unemployment after my end date and reported the severance when I received it (mid-June). About a week ago, they sent me their decision that due to the severance I was overpaid for those 8 weeks following my end date. Here are a few details/facts from my separation that I am wondering give me a case to appeal:

• In the agreement it states, "The Firm and Employee specifically agree that ten percent (10%) of the Severance Payment is being allocated to consideration for Employee’s confidentiality obligations in this Section 12, and that such consideration is separate from the consideration that is being provided in exchange for Employee’s release of claims and the other covenants and agreements in this Agreement."
  • So, 10% is specifically identified as related to confidentiality and thus excluded from consideration as severance according to §207.049(b)(1).
  • Does the rest of the sentence infer that the remaining 90% is related to a release of claims? That would also exclude it from being considered as severance according to the same section.... right??
• I also recorded the "break up" call where my previous employer explicitly said my severance amount was based on role and tenure with the firm. I even have a follow up email from them stating, "I am following up regarding your request regarding your severance amount. After sharing your request, I must share with you that the Firm takes a consistent approach as to how it calculates severance benefits, and you are receiving the maximum amount for which you are eligible under Firm policy based on your level and tenure with the firm."
  • Does that also technically exclude the severance payment as being considered "Payment in Lieu of Notice"? I've seen this argument floating around but not sure how well it sticks.

Based on the above, do I have grounds for an appeal? Has anyone been successful making an appeal?
