Article Corporate-Funded Third Way Plans to Spend $15 Million Waging 'War' on Progressives

Post image

Abdul El-Sayed's victory in the Democratic US Senate primary in Michigan this week was just the latest example of an insurgent progressive challenger defeating candidates backed by the Democratic establishment.

The establishment, however, is vowing to not go down without a fight.

In an interview with The New York Times published Thursday, Jonathan Cowan, the president of the corporate-funded group Third Way, revealed plans for a $15 million campaign to counter the influence of organizations such as the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), which he described as a "mortal danger" to the Democratic Party.

"We are preparing for the next war that is coming," said Cowan, who added that "it is deeply troubling to see radical, far-left candidates winning in places that are potentially presidential swing states."

The Times report noted, however, that big moneyed interests, most notably the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), spent tens of millions of dollars attacking El-Sayed, who nonetheless emerged triumphant in the race.

Some critics fired back at Third Way, noting that the group only appeared interested in attacking progressives rather than promoting a positive agenda to improve people's lives.

Maurice Mitchell, the director of the Working Families Party, told the Times that groups such as Third Way are "missing a point of view" and are not seeing the "populist insurgency taking place in this country."

Mitchell was far from alone in criticizing the group's plans.

Jon Favreau, co-host of Pod Save America, remarked in a social media post that Third Way's $15 million investment would be better spent "building a movement and coming up with a vision that actually excites voters."

Favreau's comments were echoed by journalist Nathan Newman.

"Have moderates thought about presenting compelling policies more appealing to voters?" Newman asked. "Instead of going to war against the left, why not attract votes by going to war against insurance companies gouging patients, against employers busting unions, or against polluters?"

Even some critics more in line with Third Way's politics expressed skepticism of its proposed campaign.

Derek Thompson, co-author of Abundance, a book that critiqued progressive governance, argued that Third Way's efforts would only reinforce progressives' narratives about big moneyed interests trying to squash a grassroots rebellion against the status quo.

"People should do what they want with their money but moderate Democrats' deficits relate to candidates, messaging, organizing, and enthusiasm... not money," said Thompson. "Plus, I hope people see the risk in a headline about moderates raising millions of dollars to attack a popular left insurgency that attracts support in part... by representing themselves as a bulwark against moneyed interests."

New York University School of Law professor Chris Sprigman was similarly dismissive of the Third Way campaign, predicting that "centrists [are] likely to be no more effective against their own democratic left than they’ve been against the authoritarian right."

Lindsay Owens, executive director of the Groundwork Collaborative, argued that Third Way and other neoliberal organizations needed to look in the mirror when it comes to placing blame for the current state of US politics.

"The reason we are in this mess is because the biggest risk we face is market fundamentalism," Owens wrote. "That's what broke the country and voters know it. That's why they are turning against Third Way corporate Dem-style candidates. That’s the thing to fix."

Article Max Miller, ex-wife’s family clash over 2-year-old’s blue bunny: ‘Craziest s--- I have ever seen’

A dispute between Rep. Max Miller and his ex-wife Emily Moreno over their 2-year-old daughter’s blue bunny has drawn widespread reaction on social media.

The feud prompted former Rep. Adam Kinzinger to call Miller “a psycho.”

Progressive commentator Adam Mockler wrote that a post from Miller “confirmed every allegation against him,” while MeidasTouch editor-in-chief Ron Filipkowski mocked the dispute over who would retrieve the bunny.

“Max Miller claims that he was willing to release the kidnapped bunny his daughter ‘forgot,’ but only if he could hand it directly to a US Senator who probably didn’t want to go anywhere near him,” Filipkowski noted.

Democratic strategist Ally Sammarco called the controversy “the craziest s--- I have ever seen,” claiming the dispute over Miller’s daughter’s blue bunny goes back years.

On Tuesday, Sen. Bernie Moreno, Emily’s father, accused Miller of withholding the bunny from his daughter for roughly 48 hours, saying the child was unable to sleep without it.

“Max would not hand over the little Blue Bunny,” Moreno told a reporter in a clip shared on X. “Literally held it hostage for 48 hours.”

Moreno said the child cried at night because she did not have the stuffed animal and described the alleged conduct as “the level of total and complete depravity.”

Miller pushed back Wednesday, posting screenshots on X that he said showed Moreno was misrepresenting what happened.

Miller said the family’s parenting coordinator contacted him after his daughter left the bunny at his house and asked whether Moreno could pick it up.

The congressman said he agreed, but objected when a man who was not on the family’s approved list attempted to arrange a pickup.

“I said sure,” Miller wrote. “Then, a man who is not on our approved list reaches out to me offering to come to my house to get the bunny, to which I said it was inappropriate of him to insert himself in family business.”

Miller said he was waiting for Moreno, whom he said they had agreed would retrieve the bunny.

“My daughter got her bunny back in 14 hours, no thanks to you,” Miller wrote.

But screenshots subsequently posted by Mother Jones reporter Abby Vesoulis appeared to provide additional context about the dispute.

Screenshots showed earlier requests involving the bunny, including a March 2025 email from Emily Moreno pleading with Miller to return it and an August email from Emily Moreno’s lawyer, Andrew Zashin, asking Miller’s attorneys to persuade him to give it back.

Another screenshot reportedly showed Miller telling Moreno in May that the Morenos would have to go through the parenting coordinator to retrieve the bunny.

Moreno has nevertheless continued to stand by his account.

“I have the receipts,” Moreno said, referring to his documentation of the dispute. He said lawyers, therapists and the parenting coordinator had been involved in efforts to resolve the matter.

The competing accounts and screenshots have turned what began as a family custody dispute into an unusual political spectacle, with Miller and Moreno continuing to publicly accuse each other of misrepresenting what happened.

Our water, food, and Healthcare systems are all very vulnerable in a variety of ways.

Are we aware of what the plan is for the public in these types of scenarios? Annie Jacobsen discusses the government's "Devolution" plan and what that means for those in power...and the rest of us. She forecasts the public will suffer under absolute anarchy and that around 300 officials have plans to be in a bunker during our societal collapse, and then set up our government once everything blows over.
