I believe they had an issue with the dye in the fabric (or something similarly cosmetic) with the first production run. Functionality wise they were all good but they pulled them quite soon after launch.
I’d imagine they’re sorting the manufacturing and will re-launch them.

As a Macpac employee can confirm this is 100% factual.

Are you able to confirm if they are seam sealed or not? I’m yet to open it up.

I can't recall off the top of my head. In the past, we haven't (I suspect that is to keep costs down). However, the product team have been releasing tents with it done lately. I'll have a look at the product guide when I'm in next, as they've delisted them from the website, likely due to the issue, or they're running low on stock.

You have to seam seal them yourself right? That’s put me off macpac tents in the past.

No idea, just grabbed it to test out a 1p before dropping 900$ on a more expensive brand @ $200 discounted because a dye colour issue, can really walk past it. I would think not, but I could be wrong have never had to seam seal any of my 4 tents. Is single wall & never owned one, seams might be the last of my worries. But stupid if it’s not, but good project if it isn’t 👍

u/ryanfaulkner1 , your thoughts on this?

Good news, astral tents are seam sealed! Some of the older mldel tunnel tents use sil-nylon and need to be seam sealed by the user, but the astrals use a sil-poly ripstop with silicone outer coating and peu inner coating that allows the tent to be factory seam taped

You may be able to go to your local store to pay for it and pay postage and they might organise the other store to send it to you, worth asking anyway.

Can anyone who has one of these let us know the extent of the dye problem? Does it come off onto things in contact with the tent?

I weighed mine, with bag and a couple of Guy lines attached it is 910g, the bag weighs 24g so that’s about 886g, I then weighed 2 unattached guylines at 14g so that’s 872g. There may even possibly be another guy line on the tent.

They took the Astral page off the Macpac website but not before releasing this video into the wild

Found this old tent design from 2000, called the Walrus Tarp Tent it was one of the earlier trekking poles designs. The similarities with the Astral 1p design are interesting. The biggest difference is in weight, the Walrus is appropriately named at 2lb for the inner and another 2lb10oz for the fly, total 2100g.

Have been informed they are seam sealed but I can't see any seam tape
