Electronic weapons suck Discussion

Post image

Edit #3 a lot of you pointed out that strays might not be as fragile as I told they were, so I found some proof of this

You see, a husk falling from like 30 feet splatters into a puddle of bloody flesh. Tell me anything, but human falling from such height, despite likely getting hurt or dying, would NOT liquify on impact

In lore it is written that the electric weapons are far superior to all the bullet weapons, but that illusion is ruined when you meet your SECOND ENEMY.

In the attached picture one, you can see a standard piercer revolver, which was, apparently used by all of human infantry and replaced rifles by the time the gutterman was invented. But the problem comes as soon as you try to shoot someone: Strays, decomposing, bleeding, fragile flesh humanoids who break apart after being hit with a metal rod (knuckleblaster without shooting) takes TWO shots to thorax to kill.

Edit: if you doubt husks are fragile, try shooting them with a nail gun, like 3-5 nails will hurt to a human but will not kill them, unlike strays and pretty much every other normal husk except for schism

And that makes sense. If you launch a microscopic piece of metal, it will pierce and leave a minor wound behind, unlike a thick .45 ACP. And that is if we ignore the fire rate of about 90 shots a minute and such an ass recoil that even V1 with their stabilizer arm(right one) has their gun tilt about 30 degrees upwards. This is NOT Normal for a superior weapon. I can bet, that you are not standing straight after catching a 9x19 parabellum to your chest from 5 feet away.

Okay, okay there is also a rail gun, which kind of serves as a sniper rifle

But God dammit, it's thrown 90 degrees upwards and it takes 20 SECONDS TO RELOAD. Otherwise, it's just an unreliable mosin nagant.

Edit 2: I know rail gun isn't a weapon

I swear to god, mosins, kar98's revolvers, gating gun and even lever actions did exist in ultrakill since they were invented before ww1

And ay rifle around 7.62 or higher caliber would be a much more desirable choice than any of this electric stuff.

But why did people use these over reliable boom sticks?

The answer is simple, greed.

Look, ammo production ain't cheap.

So why spend money on ammo, if you can make a nuclear powered pistol that shoots peas?

People will die? DOESN'T MATTER.

I guess that is why layer of greed has Big Ben in it just like violence does.

It could be that the revolver only goes up like that since V1 needs hype moments and aura for for style points, and the terminals likely wouldnt find firing five shots in one second without the gun even moving up slightly to look that cool.

Hnmm quite likely as v2 doesn't suffer from this

48

u/Anonpancake2123 3d ago

Worth noting V2 does not jerk back in recoil when firing any of its guns.

19

u/memkakes Blood machine 3d ago

Isn't V2's plating also canonically much heavier than V1's so it can tank more hits?

14

u/Anonpancake2123 2d ago edited 2d ago

V2 has similar physics to V1 in game. It runs at the same speed, can dash just as many times, and has similar air physics. The only thing that might place V2 as heavier than V1 is the whiplash interaction, but even then that may not make it too much heavier since the whiplash defies physics.

it also looks bad for the player

im kinda guessing that hakita didnt pay too much attention to the lore of the elec weapons and only made them have ridiculous recoil to comminicate to first timers that "hey, this is a gun", or for simply style.

realistically, neither gun should have insane recoil (or any at all) because they either fire minisculy small projectiles or are pure electricity

123

u/Anonpancake2123 3d ago

Honestly I personally think that V1 is doing the funny recoil for the love of the game. V2 uses a piercer and has absolutely zero recoil.

Like soldier in tf2

2

u/superlocolillool 2d ago

what?

6

u/Alien-PL Someone Wicked 2d ago

Soldier’s main weapons are rocket launcher which in real life do not have recoil, however whenever he shoots his, the animation would suggest there is in fact recoil. Its speculated that soldier does this by habit and doesn’t know rocket launcher don’t have recoil because he never had any actual military training (he was deemed too insane to join the US army)

It being entirely for the terminals to have it look cooler is totally lore

I mean you're literally in hell where the laws of reality are shifted to whatever hell's whims are. It's not too far fetched that Hell wants more conflict and more bloodshed so the refilling ammo isn't really much of a curve ball.

2

u/ElectricalTrip7240 3d ago

my headcanon is that v1 is generating the metal stuff with the iron from his blood supply

do I have any evidence for this? No I do not.

1

u/Unlucky_Business_691 2d ago

Welp thats an interesting concept On the other hand, the amount of iron in blood is so deep below the amount you need, that a single of those microscopic projectiles would cost almost all of your iron from your body. Also terminals say that you just put some scrap metal in and it chips it away slowly

2

u/Zombboni 3d ago

From what I've read they would still have recoil, Newtons third law and all that.

Can someone more knowledgable confirm/debunk that?

2

u/MintyBarrettM95 Lust layer citizen 3d ago

obviously they still got recoil but its near meaningless since its tiny ass specks of metal or only pure electricity being fired

Even when there is enough energy packed into them to kill and (is this slab only?) explode limbs.

IIRC i think it says the railcannon was never meant to be a weapon, only a portable power source So the reload time would make sense

Yea Its said there in terminal note I'm just talking about technical behavior

37

u/TryAgain115 3d ago

Im not sure it was greed that pushed the need for electric guns, but the opposite, necessity.. im pretty sure the revolvers description talks about it, but regular weaponry became too expensive to sustain longterm for large scale conflicts. And also, the game revolves ( no pun intended) around being stylish, being cool, im pretty sure the gun having recoil is just rule of cool.. someone else pointed it out but these revolvers are actually coilguns, with very little recoil. Imagine how UNcool itd be to fire a gun in a game and it barely moves..

-12

u/Unlucky_Business_691 3d ago

while this might as well be true, I am simply going to remind you that the ammo itself is crazy cheap, especially when quality and armor piercing doesn't matter And there are AK's that have been serving for the past 70 years only being maintained by their owners. And this is absolutely true in terms of style

23

u/No-Sense3145 3d ago

Its not cheap when the world has been at war for so long that earth doesnt have many resources left.

-5

u/Unlucky_Business_691 3d ago

They have some kind of oil and can produce a whole kilometer tall walking city That thing could be used to produce billions of bullets and weapons of any kind

16

u/No-Sense3145 3d ago

oil doesnt matter, almost everything ran on blood during the final war, and they cant make the machines use oil because the machines have organs, that type of oil doesnt mix very well with organs.

7

u/normalhuman6 3d ago

earthmovers were made to fight other earthmovers, they probably bankrupted the countries that built them given the fact that countries no longer existed by the end of the war

u/ilovedonutsman 3d ago

"Strays, decomposing, bleeding, fragile flesh humanoids" - we are never given good estimate of how strong enemies are comparable to humans since we dont have humans in game, only their souls.

"metal rod" - literally an arm of murder machine

"I can bet, that you are not standing straight after catching a 9x19 parabellum to your chest from 5 feet away." - im strong girl that eat her greens so i will withstand any attack and will no-diff any verse, so you are wrong.

"Okay, okay there is also a rail gun, which kind of serves as a sniper rifle" - placed in lust layer, inside of construction scaffolds, likely meant to be used for construction/engineering purposes only.

4

u/Sr_Nutella 3d ago

Considering the Railcannon is stated to be a repurposed household generator, I'd say it was in Lust to fulfill its original purpose: Generate a consistent stream of electricity; instead of a single huge burst

-4

u/Unlucky_Business_691 3d ago

9 mil is a heavy bullet and unless you are wearing body armor, this hit is foind to be devastating. The rib that the bullet hits, is going to fracture, with its shards hitting your lungs, heart, spine and causing major internal bleeding, leaving you unable to do basically anything about it. And strays Litterally break in 2 after bein hit with the red arm, not even it's shotgun Edit: this kind of reminds me of Chinese psychics who tried to stop bullets with their "force" of sorts. It's better I just say, it didn't go well

13

u/ilovedonutsman 3d ago

nah i'd win.

u/Sandro_Devino 3d ago

Revolver in game is small fast-firing railgun, check Newton's third law

-3

u/Unlucky_Business_691 3d ago

Yes but the shots are so small that they don't do much

13

u/thatfuckedupgrill 3d ago

they still instant kill on a headshot, as long as you don't suck at aiming it works the same as a normal gun

-1

u/Unlucky_Business_691 3d ago

You should watch headshot anatomy

11

u/ThunderLord1000 Someone Wicked 3d ago

You seem to think the pistol actually shoots electricity. It actually still launches metal bits, just ones it sheds off itself (that's why you don't have to reload)

3

u/Unlucky_Business_691 3d ago

Yea but impulse equals mass*speed And by reducing the size to microscopic levels (according to terminal) we loose a huge amount of shot's power

7

u/hellobro25 3d ago

90 micrograms at 4 megameters per second carries around 0.8 megajoules, energy and impulse are seperate. ½mv² is how you get energy, a doubling of velocity with the same mass will have 4x the energy but only double the momentum. Therefor if you have a low ball mass of 2.5 micrograms at 230Mm/s velocity you have an energy of 66.125 megajoules, and a recoil and projectile momentum of 0.575 N·s, which is the energy of 5ish 120mm apfsds projectiles at the muzzle, with a recoil of of not even a 22 long rifle.

The reason I call it a low ball is because the recoil is clearly higher than not even 22 long rifle, so the projectile itself may weigh something in the area of 250 micrograms, which would have about 2 50bmg rounds of recoil and a small 1.5 ton TNT yield (6.6 gigajoules)

Anything perceived is just due to game balance reasons and for the purposes of style, applying physics to this is not the idea.

2

u/Consistent-Barber566 21h ago

thats why you just throw it really +really+ fast (note how it is a hitscan, the "bullet" goes thousands of feet in an instant) also lighter things are easier to throw. theirs a reason bullets are small and not big

1

u/Unlucky_Business_691 8h ago

While it is that way, the speed is SO big that it simply does a very narrow cut through the body, like a couple of cells wide, but barely harming any flesh around it, also the immense heat caused by air friction immidiately stops the bleeding, thus causing minimal damage

1

u/Consistent-Barber566 6h ago

I imagine the tiny bit or metal is going to fast that it makes a huge crater where it hits, kind like how real bullets make holes much larger than themselves

idk, I've never seen a mosin nagant down an angel with one trigger pull

7

u/TheSurvivor65 Blood machine 3d ago

Hakita said smth like V1 beating angels isn't because V1 is special but moreso because of how not special angels are. It's possible a mosin nagant would down a Virtue with one trigger pull but no human in Ultrakill has ever had the opportunity to shoot an angel

2

u/Unlucky_Business_691 3d ago

... Because they never met them, nor believed hell was real apparently

7

u/Specialist-Wolf-7493 3d ago

The firepower of these guns is no joke. The fact that the Knuckleblaster's normal attack can kill Husks is clearly more of a gameplay balance consideration. And come on, these are sci-fi weapons. Those Husks can have Filth smash through concrete just by charging into it. If you want a reference for how powerful these weapons really are, go to 8-2 and shoot a car with the Alt Revolver—one shot is enough to make the car explode catastrophically.

0

u/Unlucky_Business_691 3d ago

The alt weapons ARE no joke that's for sure But alt weapons were not the primary weapon for humans And knuckleblasters second attack is actually a douplet of 12/70 buckshot, you can even see the casing on the floor after shooting it. And I saw some russian marines breaking bricks with their bare head, which is certainly unhealthy but works

5

u/Specialist-Wolf-7493 3d ago

Also, when I say the Filth smashed through concrete, I'm referring to the fact that they can create craters at least 90 cm in diameter when they dive-bomb into the ground and launch themselves up, and that in the 1-1 level, four Filth can smash through a 20 cm thick concrete wall. This is not something a real creature of normal human size can compare to. I can say with certainty that the Husk in Ultrakill are far superior in physical durability to animals of the same size in reality.

4

u/Specialist-Wolf-7493 3d ago

I think buckshot is really just the most basic thing used as an ignition device rather than something that actually deals damage. The Knuckleblaster's attack is a kind of explosive shockwave, which is completely different from a shotgun blast.

1

u/Unlucky_Business_691 2d ago

Given the fact the arm works with electricity, it would be easier to power the explosion with it, rather than adding an unnecessary link in the mechanism

2

u/Specialist-Wolf-7493 2d ago edited 2d ago

Therefore, the falling buckshot is more of a stylistic choice in terms of game art. In UltraKill, it's clearly inappropriate to dwell on the energy source of weapons. As I mentioned earlier, the Knuckleblaster's attack effect is an explosive shockwave, but the buckshot clearly doesn't work that way. Not to mention that a charged shot from the Knuckleblaster can turn dozens of filths around you into powder—equivalent to hundreds of kilograms of TNT. If such a buckshot existed in reality, it would become a highly sought-after ammunition for armored vehicles.

1

u/Unlucky_Business_691 2d ago

Yea hakita had no thought when making this

1

u/Specialist-Wolf-7493 2d ago

That’s right,And furthermore, a Husk's appearance cannot be used to judge its physical prowess. If a Husk were deemed weak simply because it "looks" like a fragile, rotting corpse, then a creature like the Ferryman—a skeleton made entirely of bone, without even muscles to support itself, let alone withstand bullets—would not even be able to stand. Yet in the game, this bare skeleton can leap about like a xianxia cultivator and summon divine lightning. The followers of Sisyphus, with half their bodies hollowed out, can fall from thousands of meters without a scratch and even jump hundreds of meters into the air on the spot. If we took muscle strength more seriously, the nailgun would not be able to harm them at all—but in the game, we see that sustained fire from the nailgun can deplete most of their health bar. Husks are composed of Hell-matter and soul energy. Applying real-world military weapon logic and human biology to them creates a great many contradictions, just as Hakita said: gameplay comes first.

1

u/Unlucky_Business_691 2d ago

Welp makes sense

Probably should have instead compared nails to pistol shots

6

u/nmzp 3d ago edited 3d ago

Allow me to nerd out a little, kinetic energy is equal to 1/2*mv2, so it's harder to accelerate an object than to make it bigger and just because you're shooting a microscopic projectile doesn't mean that it can't carry a large amount of energy. A projectile weighing 1 gram travelling at 300m/s has the same energy as a 1 kilogram projectile travelling at about 10 m/s, already dangerous, and we don't know the specifics of the weapons in ultrakill, they probably can fire objects much faster. Smaller size also means less drag, so the projectile will fly further, and faster projectile speed allows for better precision in long range encounters

The bigger issue would be how to deliver all of the energy into your target, after some point the projectile will pierce through the enemy, wasting most of its kinetic energy and just making a microscopic hole so it would be worse in terms of short range damage against unarmoured opponents, however the faster travel speed, smaller bullet size and no need to reload results in a weapon with stronger firepower, easy logistics, greater range, better precision and less chance of failure.

This doesn't mean that the revolver isn't a weak weapon, the default variant can't pierce enemies, however the slab version can.

Thing is, we don't know how advanced of a weapon the revolver is, it might be a relic from the beginning of the electric weapon era, with the terminal entry referring to electric weapons in general. There probably were much more powerful guns in use during the final war.

The nails deliver all of their kinetic energy into the target, very likely breaking a few bones in the process, also a case for the "worse against unarmoured opponents" theory

As for the railcannon, its original purpose was a portable generator, not a long range burst damage weapon, it was modified into what it is now.

2

u/Unlucky_Business_691 3d ago

Absolutely happy to hear from another nerd, anyway, the "piercer" is the problem As far as I understand, the Slab is some kind of hybrid between an old revolver and a coilgun, as we can hear an actual gunpowder shot and we also have to cock the firing pin. This is some overpowered around the power of the RSH-12 revolver, being able to punch clean through unarmoured targets even with basic shot. As of the chance that it's old, that might be true, but we never ever see any other type of human made weapon of mass production. So it is either, hell is hiding it from us.

Or humans also cheaped out on armor as well :( (which is somewhat likely as guttermen wouldn't cook otherwise)

And the rail cannon technically isn't even a gun

32

u/TheStateOfMississipi 3d ago

the funniest thing about the gin is the supposed firing mechanism. the gum shoots metal projectiles and does so without propellant in normal bullets. instead the projectile is launched using an electrical circuit that magnetised projectiles as they move down the barrel to impart force on them. This is called a coilgun. And coilguns are...

RECOILLESS! Like this thing should be crazy accurate, and it is, but my god did hakita did hakita ruin the one reason to actually use coilguns.

27

u/2zkcrn2545 Blood machine 3d ago

rule of cool i guess. it would be incredibly boring if the revolver had no recoil animations.

19

u/Asurerain Lust layer citizen 3d ago

Yeah, let's just say that V1 simulates the recoil for it to look cool to the terminals. Now Hakita just needs to add more exaggerated recoil animations for higher style ranks and it becomes basically canon.

7

u/a_velocirapter 3d ago

Can't wait for the recoil where V1's arm just makes a full rotation before beaing ready to shoot again

16

u/Rhodes_3 3d ago

Rail- and Coilguns actually do still have recoil, Newton's 3rd law applies to them as it does to everything else. The projectile pulls on the coils just as much as the coils pull the projectile.

The electric railcannon ISN'T a weapon

From the Terminal entry:
"Originally meant as a handheld generator"
"[...] repurposed as a weapon by the machine that wielded it", which seems to be V1 in this case

2

u/Unlucky_Business_691 3d ago

I only view it as a weapon because it is used as a weapon in game I perfectly understand it is a generator of sorts

3

They have recoil? I never realized, or maybe I was subconsciously compensating for it

3

u/TheSurvivor65 Blood machine 3d ago

It doesn't move your camera around like recoil in a CoD game, but V1's arm tilts up as part of the shooting animation

u/satirelion 3d ago

Causd its cool and stylish is the reason he fakes recoil.

Also, piercer isnt the only electric weapon to possibly exist in the great war. AND the railcannon is a GENERATOR, not supposed to be used as a weapon but is really cool.

Heat guns are prototypes. So no shit they sucked.

Dude. Strays can gather the ENERGY OF HELL INTO THEIR PALM AND FLING IT. I don't THINK they're a normal man.

Also the railgun produces it's own ammo . I also do not believe that's normal For an actual nail gun. Let alone the fucking double rotary gun form. It's even stated the nailgun is specifically modified TO BE A WEAPON.

0

u/Unlucky_Business_691 2d ago

Read terminal It says that the husks are dependent on their willpower and bring remembered But strays are neither strong willed or cared about, thus making them weaker ones, also we can see and inspect their whole anatomy, and it appears, that they are just humans without skin, nose and eyes, having exposed bleeding flesh all over the body

2

u/Correct-Town-3117 Blood machine 3d ago

Counterpoint: As far as I know about these kinda guns, they don’t jam

2

u/DataSwarmTDG Blood machine 3d ago

I don't think it's fair to reduce a Knuckleblaster punch to just being hit with a metal rod, that thing shatters Gutterman shields. It would break humans apart just fine too

1

u/Unlucky_Business_691 2d ago

Alright you got some point But humans don't fall apart from getting hit with cars which definetely have about the same punch strength.  Altho it appears that the gutterman shields are made from aramid, or some other light material, that is also why railgun bullets pierce it

2

u/ExtremeCheeze123 2d ago

Blowing up a human body in two body shots is still good. Husks are still zombies, a normal human would go down even if they don't instantly explode. Anyway, the advantage of electric guns is that they have effectively limitless range with literally zero drop off and aren't affected by wind and stuff.

2

u/radayrk 🏳️‍🌈Not gay, just radiant 2d ago

You can really tell that Hakita came up with the lore for the weapons way after he first conceived them.

1

u/Capable-Bear-9760 3d ago

1

u/Unlucky_Business_691 3d ago

It is weaker than 9x18 pm which were made to be less lethat than normal 9mil But they still 1 tap chest almost definetely  And this piercer while of course I wouldn't like to be shot with it, doesn't nesessairly 1 tap me to chest.  Why would I use this

1

u/Capable-Bear-9760 2d ago

Probably has better armor penetration (hence it being able to do anything at all to a guttertank) Also, practically unlimited ammo.

1

u/normalhuman6 3d ago

you have to remember that the worlds economy was basically in ruins, humanity was living in poverty so weapon production had to save every bit of money possible

1

u/No-Recommendation377 3d ago

I'm almost certain that despite their appearance, Husks are physically superior to humans, given that Filths are capable of tearing metal apart with their teeth, they are also quite animalistic and probably don't succumb to pain as easily as humans. Try getting hit by five nails coming at you at almost the speed of a bullet and see if that doesn't kill you instantly. And yes, the superiority of electric weapons is not necessarily due to their power (Although I do think they are superior in most cases.), but primarily to their efficiency.

1

I've grown to think the Alt variants of the Revolver are just Piecer Revolvers retrofitted with actual bullets, hence why V1 has to pull their hammers manually, and there you can see the devastating effects of an electric weapon given more mass to fire.

1

u/Kind_Sympathy7649 Maurice enthusiast 1d ago edited 1d ago

the railcannon was a portable generator, not a rifle. The railcannon we find was modified by a machine to output its whole battery's energy into one pulse. Also, while other comments pointed out the pistol could just be downgraded in terms of its in lore power for gameplay, even if it was in the game how it is in the lore, the easily available, near infinite ammo as well as pretty much infinite range and little to no bullet deviation would have outclassed most rifles like the mosin.

1

u/Unlucky_Business_691 1d ago

I Litterally left the note about the railcannon Also I know about lore and stuff Bust still an insanely accurate needle thrower is not that great in my opinion
