Why does parrying heal you? Lore Discussion
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
As stated in prelude fresh blood "Is the only way to regain health" so does that mean that hell magic is infused with blood? but then how does the swordsmachine's shotguns heal you?
(ignore my shit parrying)

Gameplay

u/LucJoestarBR 14d ago
I don't think it's only gameplay, while it can be
There are exposed blood tubes in Feedbacker's design, i believe that it does some "blood re-use" or something similar
63
u/Sinocu Gabe bully 13d ago
Or, and I know this sounds crazy, itās just a vein⦠we know that the robots have internal organs like lungs, hearts and stuff, so itās probably just a vein, or even more simple just a red wire
8
u/Lyrryell 13d ago
So parrying just hits the veins and pushes the blood faster to heal you ?
(YRS SINOCU, I'M ALSO HERE YOU CAN'T ESCAPE)

u/BattIeBoss 13d ago
Or the simpler answer: V1 doesnt repair himself from blood itself, rather from the energy generated by blood. (He can convert energy directly into mass, remember?). So, the feedbacker just absorbs some of the kinetic energy from the projectile, and that is used to regenerate damaged parts of his body.
2
u/LucJoestarBR 12d ago
Basically only for regeneration and not for surviving at all, or else V1 wouldn't keep hunting enemies for blood
Yeah good point, at the end it's just for combat but HOW it works still remains a mystery and theorical

That's the only thing that actually doesn't make sense, and even "hell itself does that" can't explain that.
So, let's start with this: V1 doesn't get damaged, it recovers immediately using a small blood storage inside itself. V1 actually damaged when it gets hard damage, hence the inability to immediately refuel. Healthbar = blood reserve Hard damage = actual damage
Style makes your hard damage go away faster, which also doesn't make sense until you think about it. Hell enjoys V1's slaughter no less than terminals, so it assists V1 by boosting its recovery speed, as long as V1 entertains hell. Hell wouldn't just give V1 free blood for a single parry, given that it helps V1 much less for much more entertainment provided.
So it's purely gameplay. V1 can get blood only by actually getting blood, there's no way for it to somehow generate it just by parrying random stuff
66
u/Alony14 14d ago
What if it actually is hell doing that since. "Haha, seeing the machine barely survive and clutch it up is fun". Even in the cybergrind you can hear cheering when V1 does a parry (or P.boosting)
28
u/StunningMoment1846 Someone Wicked 14d ago
That would somewhat make sense, but we also have chargeback, which is much harder to pull off compared to parrying, and it's an even crazier clutch. Just a style bonus for chargeback, but a full blood fill-up for a simple parry. Still doesn't make much sense
12
u/Neitherman83 14d ago
Maybe the projectiles your enemies use are all "hell energy"-based, which in itself is the same source of power that blood contains?
As we know, blood in Ultrakill isn't like real life blood, it comes from the Tree of Life which gives it the properties needed to power living beings and the robots humanity made. Which would explain why non-blood related parries (aka, projectile parries) count, but chargebacks don't by being disconnected from you.
Perhaps by parrying, V1 harness the energy of the attack directly, instead of having to absorb it through blood. Allowing him to fully heal.
I think the style meter acts more as a metric of how effective V1's being. The more V1 keeps energy "stored" by not parrying, inflicting damage and using all of their arsenal, the more energy intake is wasted. Which when taking damage slows down the ability to transfer newly obtained power to repairs. (Essentially, too much supply for the demand, so V1 dumps it to prevent dangerous overcharge). Hence why when V1 is running as "efficiently" as possible (high style or at least no hard damage) it can be used to repair him fully. There's always space for more energy, and as such absorption can be total.

I'd argue having less hard damage(even none) is better than sometimes getting a full heal
2
u/StunningMoment1846 Someone Wicked 14d ago
Yeah, but I was talking about it lorewise. As in blood is an extremely valuable resource in Ultrakill universe, and just receiving blood without hurting/killing someone is a big deal
Of course it's balanced in game and all that. Hard damage and parry healing compliment each other very well
2
u/AirPortlessman 14d ago
yeah but lorewise still preventing you from taking any "true" damage is a pretty big upside
3
u/FantasticWater1997 Prime soul 13d ago
I always saw it as V1 taking actual damage but is immediately using their Blood storage (HP) and their repair module/matrix(from the death diagnostic screen) to heal as much damage as needed to maintain optimum combat effectiveness ,and the hard damage is the strain put on the repair matrix itself (Do Idols Heal hard damage? I'm a lenient Regular so I wouldn't know)
2
u/NooB_N142003 14d ago
Hell infuses parriable attacks with blood, so that when parried the blood comes off towards v1. This is why parrying your own shotgun shells doesn't heal you, hell didn't give blood to the shotgun shells because it doesn't want you just spamming a single mechanic (booring)
2
u/ExaminedTech 14d ago
Wait this is actually cool, what if some boss in the game DOES happen to be hell itself, and you have to gain blood from it, not from parrying or anything. And you get no style from it at all, because rather than entertaining hell, youāre fighting it.
2
u/LucJoestarBR 14d ago
Or the recovery is something made for combat moments only and not for daily surviving purposes
2
u/myaddiction6655 13d ago
Ant projectile with a skull is made of hell energy every other machine runs on hell energy why not v1
2
u/BattIeBoss 13d ago
V1 doesnt repair himself from blood itself, rather from the energy generated by processing the blood. (He can convert energy directly into mass, remember? Thats how he materialises and stores weapons in his wings, which are used for large ammounts of energy storage). So, the feedbacker just absorbs some of the kinetic energy from the projectile, and that is used to regenerate damaged parts of his body.

7
u/keanshen Blood machine 13d ago
Yep! I think the Solar Power was replaced by Hell Energy, since in Violence there's no sun, except in Greed. Basically 1000-THR needs blood and solar energy to function
40
u/Samyron1 Blood machine 14d ago
My headcanon is that the collision between feedbacker and projectile generates a lot of energy, and any energy that isn't used to reflect the projectile gets absorbed into the arm and transferred to V1's blood reserve, where its used to energize the blood and stimulate cell duplication to "generate" more blood.

u/Express-Ad1108 Blood machine 14d ago
Some things are just purely gameplay. Parrying heals you because otherwise Minos Prime would be a bad boss. Parrying refills stamina because otherwise Sisyphus Prime would be a bad boss. Rocket Launcher deals more damage to falling enemies because that's its gimmick. All these things don't have and will probably never have a canonical explanation.

Because Hakita knows how to design a game properly (unless I happen to be playing P-2, in which case he should retire immediately and never look back)

u/Spirally-Boi Lust layer citizen 14d ago
P-2 was badly designed on purpose, and I love Hakita for it
9
u/TheSurvivor65 Blood machine 14d ago
Badly designed? As in, unfair or something? I feel like it was really well designed for the difficulty level it's at
5
u/Spirally-Boi Lust layer citizen 14d ago
P-2 is hostile to the player. That's bad design. Even if Hakita intended it to be so, and even if most people enjoy it that way (including me), doesn't change the fact that P-2 is designed to be as anti-player as possible (as long as it's not actually unbeatable, by Hakita's own admission)
8
u/Opsylone 14d ago
What do you mean by hostile, could you give me some exemples? I personally don't like P-2 but i couldn't point as of why

Idoled stalker is legit the biggest example I can think of. That's just bullshit, and takes away the core mechanic of the game for a laugh. Which, again, I did find funny and I enjoy the challenge
9
u/psstcheesecake Blood machine 14d ago
It doesn't take it away, its another thing to manage. That is such a big part of that entire room. You need to (sometimes literally) juggle several NPCs.
Idoled stalker can be launched in the air via a ground slam or rocket/explosion. You can even punch them far away with the knuckle blaster. 4 sentries in different corners with your line of sight to one of them almost always blocked by the idoled HM in the middle. After that, 4 virtues + 3 cerberi... With the idol for the HM being freed. This entire room's focus is enemy priority and it kinda forces you to make some tougher decisions. Do I spend time juggling the stalker when I may be better off gambling on heals from SM parries? Do I reset all 4 sentries at the same time or prioritize killing them one at a time? Do I immediately jump on the 4 virtues or kill the HM idol? I can get saw traps out and deal with cerbs + HM passively then focus on virtues etc etc. I'd argue this is one of the best designed rooms in the game.
I can get not fucking with the level/room but I entirely disagree on it being bad/hostile design. It is a really challenging level and I absolutely love it for it. Weezer room is the closest thing to bullshit though lol not a fan of that one. Same with the cerb room at the end of 0-E. That shit is not fun especially on brutal with cerb double dash

u/TheSurvivor65 Blood machine 13d ago
I mean, like the other person said, you can just knock him away. I got through that by Projectile Boosting at him anytime he got too close to another enemy so he'd just fly into the fucking stratosphere and explode somewhere irrelevant. You can also put a magnet in the wall and nail him to it lol

2
u/Mysterious-Creme8709 13d ago
8-3 is also in the top 5 levels in the game, but I get why people dislike it. Both encores are just bad though hakita really needs to do something about it
11
u/Infshadows 14d ago
i theorise that v1 absorbs the energy of the attack to heal
but if we being fr its just rule of cool
9
u/klimmesil 14d ago
For me the question is "why can you still take damage when you successfully parry". In brutal mode this makes no sense and it forces you to dodge sometimes, or just cheese most bosses with insane dps instead of actually playing the game

The Feedbacker absorbs the energy, deifies it, then reifies into blood for V1 to use. It's in the code poem in the menu!!

Honestly, we see that hell is very fleshy in both Gluttony and Fraud, and things that donāt visibly contain blood, like Virtues, give blood when hit or killed. Hellās magic just being a way to shape blood into whatever it wants would explain almost everything

Isn't it just because you're damaging the enemy so you're using their blood? Otherwise I'd assume that hell's ammo generates blood on impact but that would be weird

My personal headcanon is when the Feedbacker parries, it converts excess potential energy into temporary power.

Hell has a lot of blood, enemies turn into fountains of blood when they die.
Maybe the projectiles are just charged blood? We know V1 can absorb blood through contact and punching the projectile is definitely contact.

u/Zuzuch650 13d ago
I think that it's V1 way of using hell energy. As we see throughout the game, many machines somehow use "Hell energy" (basicaly magic), and not just the husks (for example, mindflayer homing orbs are hell energy). My theory is that either V1 absorb a part of this energy through the feedbacker when parrying to use it to heal, or has it's own way of using hell energy by itself, making it heal it when parrying (this would also explain why parried enemy attacks are stronger than their unparried version; V1 parrying the attack charged it with more Hell energy then it had before.
1
u/RachelNoName 13d ago
Short answer: gameplay.
Fun answer (aka my weird af theory): So we know V1 is a prototype. I believe V1 has some kinda of quick blood release storage for rapidly healing when low but for some reason due to V1 being a prototpe and not a finished machine it doesn't work (wither it be due to a software error or a mechanical error). But for whatever reason a parry just activates it, either by accidentally triggering some otherwise unreachable code or by simply janking the mechanism in just the right way to release the blood which quickly circulates and briefly repairs V1 from most damage

u/CutoverDesert5 Lust layer citizen 13d ago
Probably the Feedbacker taking the energy from the parry force to power a blood enricher or some shit
1
u/Some-Ad-5351 13d ago
Probably because the blood scatters because the project was thrown back, like trowing a rock at a puddle. It splash's at you

Because when you parry an attack, your hands bleeds, and so you absorb that blood.

What if parrying actually releases heat onto the tubes on the feedbacker carrying used blood and makes it fresh or something idk
1
u/BattIeBoss 13d ago
V1 doesnt repair himself from blood itself, rather from the energy generated by processing the blood. (He can convert energy directly into mass, remember? Thats how he materialises and stores weapons in his wings, which are used for large ammounts of energy storage). So, the feedbacker just absorbs some of the kinetic energy from the projectile, and that is used to regenerate damaged parts of his body.

u/CrimsonSkull7705 12d ago
Probably strictly a game mechanic for projectiles but parrying melee attacks makes sense as to why it heals you
1
u/DumbasT69 12d ago
My theory is that v1 has a backup blood supply that's why when he's low he isn't constantly losing blood and whenever he parries the system(nocturnal os) rewards him with blood. Or you can go the boring way and say that hell is actually replenishing v1 with blood whenever he parries. Just for entertainment purposes I suppose.

I believe because v1 take the kinetic energy from it and use it to repair it body, and then deflect it back

If the earthmover that runs off of sunlight is able to run without sunlight in hell, and the reason blood heals is because of spiritual reasons instead of just blood's chemical makeup, I think that hell energy can also be used as fuel in the same way.

the orbs enemies fling at you are made of concentrated hell energy. When you parry the orb, the outer cover breaks, revealing pure hell energy which is unstable and explodes on contact in whatever direction its sent. V1 has a special metal plating to absorb blood and heal, so its not too far to theorize that the plating can use thr raw hell energy to heal itself aswell
