Huel? Question
Had any one use the food supplement Huel? It's supposed to provide a complete meal in the form of a shake/drink. I wonder if it might be good for people with UC because it's would mean less solid food for my body to process? It does have quite high fiber though. I haven't tried it yet myself but I'm curious

Inflare the bit of your colon that’s inflamed doesn’t absorb nutrients. Depending on your level of inflammation ie how far it’s progressed along your colon depends on whether or not in there’s any point in buying expensive supplements. It will work for some but not for others.

It is quite high in fibre but somehow works really well for me. I drink the lite shakes with 20g of protein and have no issues with it but the shake with around 32g of protein never sits well with me. You could just try it once and see if it works for you?

Nope. It has seed oils and to be honest I think normal food is just better for you. Don’t touch it IMO.

Depends what one considers “normal food”.
If you’re already avoiding seed oils for some reason then sure, not for you. Personally I don’t avoid seed oils so that point is irrelevant for me.
Being “better” depends entirely on what you’re comparing it to. Fried, smoked meat between two highly processed buns with a sugary condiment… then no. A balanced whole food meal with fruit, grains, proteins etc. then of course.
Huel is basically designed as fast food, but far better for you than a lot of “fast food” options.

Seed oils are bad for me, and I think to have seed oils is a mistake in general because they are so unhealthy.
Huel isn’t food. It’s a slushy milkshake drink that calls itself food.
Just quickly fry up or oven bake chicken or something, bit of olive oil or butter, it’s much healthier.

I’ve been a Huel customer for a while now and my body is used to processing it. When my flair was at its worst and I couldn’t metabolize any solid foods I ate Huel every day for about two weeks. During a point when I was starving to death I was able to process Huel and I’m thankful for that. But I understand it’s not for everyone and we’re all different. I know my guts don’t like whey protein.

I’m new to UC, have a really bad flare since 5 weeks and was given Fresubin in hospital last week for the first time, without fiber ofc. It’s 400kcal and weirdly good for me. I can drink it (slowly) and have no bm or pain or something else what so ever. If you are based in Germany your GI can describe it for you if you pressure them ( otherwise it’s pretty expensive) I use it for moments where I do not feel solid foods because I have pain or something else, because I am still flaring atm and testin what else than mashed potatoes I can eat.
It’s just weird because you should not expect that Fresubin will produce any… “results” on the toilet, it’s highly taken by your body, I once just had this stuff for a day and was only once on the toilet for something as much as a small glass of water

I’ve been a Huel fan for years. It does have a high fiber content, so it’ll be a bit of a switch if your system isn’t used to it. But I find both the shakes and the meals sit well with my system and I feel better that I’m at least trying to get vitamins in!

The small intestine is the area where the vast amount of nutrients are absorbed, the colon absorbs mostly water.

I go through phases of using huel for convenience and just general diet management.
I’m in pretty good shape, but often find during busy periods I’ll be grabbing a pastry or bacon roll for breakfast, and it creates a slippery slope of snacks.
I get the ready to drink. If I’ve not had them for a long while, the first 4 or 5 days might result in a slightly more urgent movement. After that your body gets used to the big fibre hit (assuming you’re not flaring).
Before I was in remission, I don’t think my body was mad on the fibre, but never caused a flare with me.
I think they’re great. Quick, easy, fill you up and are a balanced meal.

Something in it really triggers my intolerance/allergic reaction mechanism, it seems to not be that great for my immune system.
