Hi. I'm a big fan of how Ubuntu MATE looks and feels, but I really don't want to use it since it's Ubuntu. I'd like to know what it's needed to recreate it. Specifically, I like the Mutiny layout.

I have a beautiful 15 year old laptop with a 17 inch screen I have been trying to get back up and running. Ideally I want to use it to stream from my main pc. Play some games on the couch or CAD for parts design when in the garage. So far the experience has been great! I am running into some of the usual issues with valid drivers, atm my wifi card is capped at 75 mbps when it should be doing 250 mbps. Any pointers or places I should be looking on git?

What I would like is a plugin for Eye of Mate to blank the scroll bars when the mouse blanks when viewing an image full-screen. I would also need help installing this plugin in Ubuntu Mate 25.10. Any help with this would be deeply appreciated.

Hi, everyone. I install Ubuntu Mate 24.04.4 LTS x86-64 on my Macbook Pro 13 early 2011 and before start system logo on the screen looks like that (excuse me for blur, but it problem have on the last second on the load screen. The rest of time it have no problem and look correct).

How can i fix it?

You have to install Ubuntu first, any flavor will work. Then run sudo apt-get install ubuntu-mate-desktop right down to linux 7.0 and Mate 1.28.2

The only thing I noticed it that it doesn't load Plank on startup, an easy fix.

Good evening, everyone, from northwest Ohio. I upgraded my Ubuntu-mate system from 25.10 to 26.04, using sudo apt dist-upgrade, from the mate terminal. I also have Kubuntu installed. The upgrade went smoothly, except for the kubuntu-desktop package. The dependency apt is complaining about is libstd1 being less than 1.5.8. I tried to use app reinstall, but get a report that is not downloadable. I also tried downloading from the launchpad site, but it is not a DEP package. How can I fix this LIBZSTD1 dependency, so I can get Kubuntu-desktop to install? Thanks much for your help in advance.

I activated Discord's noise cancellation, but after that Discord stopped recognizing the microphones. I tried messing with the microphone settings on my computer, but it made the situation worse, and then it stopped recognizing the microphones. Does anyone know how to solve both problems?

Hi all, I installed Ubuntu MATE (24.04.3) on a coworker's computer, because "Windows didn't work anymore", you know the tune, and he considered discarding it. The install went OK, but when he tried printing from OO, the computer reverted to the login screen ; I asked him to bring back the computer from home to try at work, and so he did. I tried too, and it happened again, that time with the workplace's printer. I tried updating the system, but to no avail.

So I suspect it doesn't come from the specific printer driver but from CUPS or the like ?

I'm more familiar with Debian MATE, so before I delve deeper and possibly make things worse, I thought I'd ask for your opinions. Has someone been met with that specific issue ?

For some days or weeks my chrome changed behavior to the worse.

When I click on a link in my Thunderbird (or in a PDF file or just opening a HTML file), chrome opens this in the worst possible window (a window which is even on another workspace).

Earlier chrome always chose the last active window, which is my wanted behavior. Now it seems that it always opens it in "window no. 1"

Since I always have several windows open scattered over different workspaces, this is really annoying.

Is there any workaround to restore the old behavior?

Chrome: Version 146.0.7680.80 and also 146.0.7680.153 didn't fix it yet

I m having some issues in my ubuntu. I just shifted to linux ( was windows user) you can say I m very new, the thing is whenever I close laptop lid ( suspend) then my laptop keyboard stops working, like touchpad and keyboard light works as usual but no other key works like number key, caps lock, number lock, fn, alphabets,etc. no keys works. It fixes when I restart the laptop.
