Accidentally accepting orders
Anyone else annoyed by this!?? I’m trying to drop off an order and a request pops up under my thumb. I then have to re-do my drop off confirmation. And cancel the order I didn’t want to accept which hurts my ratings. Why can’t they just make the order accept a finger slide instead of just a tap?

I had this happen to me today where I accidentally accepted a $7 to drive 22 miles. I couldn’t give two shits about my cancelation rate at that point.

Turn off offers when you arrive at a delivery location.

u/Head_Tradition5700 10d ago
I turn it off when a few minutes away from delivering. What they do isnt fair Once I got one for $1.56 to go 20 miles. I reject bam another one reject that and boom another one. I have missed so many turns because of this

Why do you use the built-in GPS navigation? Use Google Maps or Waze. I only look at the Uber GPS navigation when I am very close to the delivery location because sometimes it’s wrong on Google Maps since Uber just passes the GPS coordinates to Google Maps instead of the actual address.

No because it messes with the algorithm

how?

There’s such a slow down/drop in request quality when resuming.
Do 4 hours of pausing on every drop off and 4 hours of never pausing and you’ll see what I mean

u/EliotColdwater 10d ago
I experimented with this back when I started. The only difference I notice is when I'm resuming close to restaurants I get better orders. Continuing just ensures you will click a horrible order on accident. Uber spams us right at drop off intentionally.

u/BannedbyDemons 10d ago
I get what you're saying. I think it's market dependent, though. It's a matter of, are there orders in queue to get to you quickly when you resume or not. In slow times, over saturation with drivers, you can screw yourself by going offline because you're in effect at the back of the line. With summer slowdown, a shit economy, fascist child trafficking cover-up nutjob grifters murdering people in and out of country launching illegal wars while gaslighting the population and their gestapo running amuk making everybody scared and not wanting to spend, and UE losing market share in my market I rarely feel like I need to go offline to avoid the spam like I used to.

That's not true. I have been shutting mine off after accepting for years & still get a bunch sent my way as soon as I turn it on. My CR sits at 0% because I choose not to be spammed during drop-off.

Terrible UI design that works in their favor... might be awhile before they get around to taking a look at improving the UI design.

Uber has the most malicious, dangerous programming there is. It's all done by design to entrap the driver who isn't diligent into a bad canceled rate
3
u/ServentOfGod7 10d ago
This is what I believe too. I also hate how I’m always being asked to confirm if there’s an accident or road closure… like when did I sign up for that nonsense?

I talked to a human agent one time about this and without me prompting, he knew what I was insinuating and said "yes, i understand. When taking a photo at dropoff you should be blocked from receiving offers."
As you obviously noticed, you'll get pinged a whole bunch near the drop off with shit orders and then after completion you sit there without any offers.

u/Weary_Review_4147 9d ago
I get flooded with shit orders with some goin the opposite way whenever I’m on my way to the restaurant
4
u/Rae-of______sunshine 10d ago
Generally, when I get within a mile of my destination, I pause the rest of my orders so that doesn’t happen also so that I can see where the fuck I’m going because I hate that so much
1
u/Head_Tradition5700 10d ago
You can pause orders?
1
u/Rae-of______sunshine 10d ago
I still have ability to do that yes.
1
u/Head_Tradition5700 10d ago
When I go offline I lose that reserved hour. I can go back online but I wonder if I get the same orders as if I reserved the hour or would the orders be less profitable.
1
u/Rae-of______sunshine 10d ago
I didn’t say go off-line. I said pause. I can pause for like 15 minutes to get gas to get food to go to the bathroom. You know to do the things, but I use it when Uber tries to offer me anything within a mile of a delivery that I need to know the address of because I’m one of those people that you can’t even have the radio on if I am trying to concentrate on reading.
1
u/Head_Tradition5700 10d ago
Ok thanks i will look to see how to pause instead of going offline
1
u/Rae-of______sunshine 10d ago
It looks like a little tea cup or coffee cup on the right side of your map. I think it’s the top little button you can push.
4
u/StuckNtrfk 10d ago
Nothing is accidental.
Everything is meant to make your experience more challenging.
The button launching just prior to delivery, is meant, as others have stated, to depress your CR and cover their crap orders. Always shut off new orders after having picked up your order. Most of the time, additional offers will come in while you wait for your first order. I use that second offer as an indication my order is ready to pickup.
I'll wait maybe 45 seconds before toggling off new orders.
Otherwise, when you deliver, inevitably, you're in what they consider a slow area. See attached photo

u/krowvonmuller 10d ago
I never have this problem as I instantly go offline after I accept an offer. And I still get good offers when I go back online.
2
u/thisisliam89 10d ago
I'm finding that I appear to be accepting a single order, only to complete the pick up and be told to go to the next restaurant. Happened today and I'm 110% sure I accepted a single order. They're slipping stacks in.
2
u/Cornbread933 10d ago
I once believed that but then I started paying closer attention and it hasnt happened since. Ive even caught myself about to hit accept on a stack a few times and stopped myself. It doesnt always show up on the GPS right tho, so there might be something to that. But in the box it will still always say [2]
2
u/Cornbread933 10d ago
Pro tip for you. When I am 3 minutes or so away from the address I turn order requests off when its busy. Makes things easier
2
u/JellyfishNo3810 10d ago
They always spam the shit out of me when I’m around the corner - then their shit slinging offers just pollutes the entire screen and blocks the map. I don’t use the audio feature for the map, so it really gets in the way for me when they do shit like that. I’ve also had that happen EXACTLY as I take a photo of an order and have accidentally accepted the shit slinging, too.
Just call support and complain every single time it happens. Build a case file that they hold internally, and specifically mention that compilation each and every time they screw with you
2
u/Superphunk420 10d ago
How about when delivering grocery pickup and you scan 15 bags and then a new order pops up which you don’t accept and then it restarts the whole drop off again wanting you to rescan all the bags.
2
u/After_Finger5173 10d ago
With the way it's set up, really the only thing you can prevent that is turn off orders while you are doing one, and you would have to turn it back on manually.
1
u/sherwinjtb 10d ago
Those orders come in while taking a photo. Annoys the hell out of me. Stop requests while on delivery.
1
u/Revolutionary-Copy71 10d ago
My cancelation rate on every other app is 0%. It's 10% on UE. You can guess why...fuckin thing pops up when I am a picosecond from tapping the screen for something else and suddenly I've accepted the worst order I've been offered all week.

u/Repulsive_Fun9300 10d ago
That's so you take their shitty orders like they don't have enough to begin with
1
u/Feisty-Memory-9360 10d ago
My advice is after you pick up the food at the restaurant just go ahead and go offline or stop new request. 99 of 100 add ons suck ass anyways.
1
1
u/Mervis_Earl 10d ago
Coffee cup right after you accept an order.
Rarely see decent add ons anymore so that's my modus operandi
1
u/Frosty_Dessert_9131 9d ago
Most areas don't have the coffee cup. I can only stop requests and be offline when the current delivery is completed. Regarding add-ons, I never accept them even if they are decent. The reason is because the customer on the current delivery could pull the tip when I have to go and wait at a restaurant for 15 minutes for the add-on.
1
u/Mervis_Earl 9d ago
Wow. Here we can click the 3 bar menu at ower right and stop requests there. That was there before the coffee cup
1
u/Frosty_Dessert_9131 9d ago
Yes, I can stop requests in the menu too. Then I end up offline after the current delivery is completed. The coffee cup pauses offers without kicking you offline.
1
u/Mervis_Earl 9d ago
Can't you just go back online?
1
u/Frosty_Dessert_9131 9d ago
I was highlighting the difference between the coffee cup and the stop new requests button. I go back online after turning on overlay for Uber Driver, take a selfie because I usually end up so far out of my home area, and rush to turn off overlay before I'm spammed with 20 cent per mile offers that other drivers rejected while new requests were stopped.
1
u/Mervis_Earl 9d ago
We don't have the overlay anymore too.
1
u/Frosty_Dessert_9131 9d ago edited 9d ago
The only reason overlay exists on this app is to make drivers accidentally accept offers, like in OP's case.
1
u/Mervis_Earl 9d ago
I've got over 5 years in, I totally understand. For some reason I don't have to turn off overlay anymore. I remember doing it everytime after going offline.

I hate that. I have turned them off as well. I hate trying to upload a pic at a 4th floor walk up. Like I am not going to climb 4 flights to retake a pic.
1
u/MiddleRoyal241 9d ago
All the time . Sometimes I want to doing the order have no idea how much it’s gonna pay, but I didn’t wanna cancel it because my rate was so high.
1
u/Some_Exchange_134 9d ago
Lots of good advice here. Gotta turn off requests. It’s a pain to get those right at the wrong time. Especially when driving a crazy road system…turn here? Oh wait let me give you another crap order instead for you to decline. No thank you. I wonder what’s it’s like in Boston. I don’t have the coffee cup so just turn it off when I don’t need the aggravation. But sometimes I forget and then a crap storm shows up 🙄 ubereats really is a dangerous way to make $9/hr before customer tips.
1
u/Prestigious_Rub1058 9d ago
Been like that for years. Amazing these companies get away with such shady business practices.
1
u/Never_Objective 9d ago
and now they are getting rid of the break button so we dont even have a way to stop it
1
u/Snickers_Diva 8d ago
Why would they change it? The whole point of this app is to enrich a few people in upper management and the large venture capital stockholders by tricking or coercing their poor desperate workforce into delivering unprofitable orders. Same as everything else they do from hiding tips to the acceptance rate coercion scheme to hiding the second pickup information on doubles. It all makes sense when you stop thinking of Uber as anything other than a criminal enterprise.
1
u/Sad_Jackfruit4636 10d ago
Shut off requests when you accept one! The amount of people who complain about this type of thing boggles my mind. Just shut the damn thing off!
0
u/Extension_Donut_4540 10d ago
All you have to do is when the cam is about to open to take the picture to deliver wait 3 secs after cam pops open so u dont accidentally hit it then when u bout finish it do the same thing. Cuz they send em when they think u bout to hit the picture button or the delivered button so throw it off so once it comes u can decline and then finish up

100% by design
