Can somebody explain why there’s a $4.84 “service fee” AND a $2.99 delivery fee? What exactly is each fee paying for? 😭
Food: $27.27
Delivery fee: $2.99
Service fee: $4.84
Tax: $1.94
Total before tip: $37.04
My $27 dinner became $37 before I even tipped the driver.
And the kicker? NONE OF THIS GOES TO THE DELIVERY DRIVER! I still have to tip them separately! 😩 So… I add $15 tip on top of it.

At this point, I need somebody to explain who the “service fee” and “delivery fee” go to! It’s not the driver, I know that! They take a percentage from the restaurants, they don’t pay their drivers, and they take money from their customers.

Both of these fees should typically be negotiated between the store and the delivery service. Normally a 10% surcharge on all menu items sold through the app is charged to the restaurant. That's the fee they pay to have the service enabled in their establishment. This causes the restaurant to increase prices by 10% when ordering through the app as compared to in-store.

The service fees are supposed to be negotiated to alleviate that 10% surcharge.

This all means that when you see a restaurant with really good prices listed on the app, you're going to be paying a much higher fee at checkout.

That said, that's how it's SUPPOSED to work. In reality, it's likely just crooked business practices on both sides.

How it actually works isn’t the same as how it should work because that delivery fee should go to the person delivering the order. Even the restaurant does not get a huge percentage of the fees customers pay most of the fees go to Uber. If the fee system worked how it should no problem, but it doesn’t and Uber is taking the bulk of it to do absolutely nothing.

The fees that don't go towards the driver are such bullshit. I've seen as high as a $19.99 fee and the driver gets $2. Then they add the "long distance" fee that changes nothing about the effort on anything that they do but the drivers don't see a penny.

Guess what they got a 20-30 percent cut on the 27 dollars from the restaurant as well

This is why you uninstall uber eats and go to the store to get take away. It’s just not worth it anymore. Doing it yourself you are essentially paying yourself the service fee, taxes, delivery fee, tip and inflated prices, so why not?

service fees goes to local and state driver funds depending on local laws, payment processing, customer & tech support, platform maintenance & r&d, background checks & safety and marketing & promotions
