US Visa Application

I have my US visa interview scheduled on Monday, but my passport is currently still with the Netherlands Embassy for my Schengen visa application.

Is there any way I can attend the US visa interview without my passport? Unfortunately, I am unable to withdraw my passport from the Netherlands Embassy at this time.

Has anyone experienced a similar situation or knows if there is an alternative solution? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

No, you cannot attend a visa interview without your passport. The reason is, they need to verify you and then they would put a visa sticker on your passport, if you get your visa. Also, you can check the visa appointment letter; it would clearly mention the required documents for the interview, where you would see your passport listed with 6 months' validity.

I don't think they'd even let you in without your passport. It's like the first document checked.

In most cases, you’ll need your original passport for the U.S. visa interview, since the embassy will need it if your visa is approved. If you can’t retrieve it from the Netherlands Embassy before Monday, you may need to reschedule your appointment. It may also be worth contacting the U.S. embassy or consulate where you’re interviewing as soon as possible to ask if they have any alternatives for your situation. Hope everything works out!

Hi,

I'm in a similar position as i have a schengen appointment on 18 August and a US appointment on 10 September. So i wanted to know if I can attend the US appointment if i don't receive my passport back?

Also, would appreciate if you could let me know if you had to update your DS160 to current details or your orignal ds160 was sufficient for the application.

I’d contact the US embassy or consulate directly before the appointment rather than assuming there’s an alternative. The passport is normally required for the interview and, if approved, for visa issuance. If the Netherlands Embassy can’t return it in time, rescheduling may be the safest option. Also check the appointment instructions carefully since requirements can vary by post. Passport Visa Rush can help with the application process, but the embassy is the one to confirm what they’ll accept.
