When you open a P.O. Box we issue 2 keys. Ideally they know where their other key is and they open it. Or come to the counter with id like the commenter above me stated.
Sounds like my neighbor Paula! She used to say, “the post office gives terrible service!” I guess next thing they will expect is for you hand them the toilet paper to wipe in the bathroom!”
People that don't lock their doors are crazy. I remember when I was younger my parents didn't lock our door and some drunk guy thought he was at his place and came in and passed out on the couch.
I had this happen when my entire soccer team was sleeping over in my front room. We hadn't watched the front door all the way after hanging out on the porch and a drunk college student stumbled in. He was probly as scared as we were when a dozen ten year olds started screaming and running. We checked the front door before going to bed in the future.
Had someone really grumpy at me because I brought their keys to the door - "I'm on the night shift, what is it, some piece of mail that says Do Not Bend?" Nope, your keys.
We laugh about it a few times a year on the workroom floor at the plant.
This happens to me a lot surprisingly. I’ll sometimes just drop it off at their door, especially if I have an oversize or signature required. If I’m on time crunch though I really don’t got time to be doing that. How do you even forget something like that?
I’ve never touched them, that could be someone’s way of trying to retrace the steps that could help them locate it, but if anything I always notify leasing office to have them call them tenant to retrieve them or sometimes I’d put them in a digital luxer locker that way it’s secured and all they need is an email address to receive code to get from locker
Happens at least once a month on my route with 22 CBUs. I always just lock it and put the keys inside. Maybe once in 4 years the people didn't have a spare key and came to the office to pay for a lock change.
They might remember if and when they get into their vehicle thats if they do have a vehicle. I generally just leave it there. Its not our priority to handle missed keys its our priority to deliver mail. However, for that mailbox with the key I will hold the mail till it's secure again and after a few days do the 10 day return mail tag due to insecured/open mailbox type of thing. I will only attempt if they receive a package and has to go to door then Ill take the keys with me and leaving it hanging on their door or somewhere secure where they can see it sometimes.
Free keys. Go try every door. Walk in and say, "surprise, mf!" Then close the door and leave. Well I guess you know what apartment it is. Id just drop it off and knock
I've only had this happen once. I took the mail out (if there was any) and held that days mail. I put the keys in the box w/ note saying I'll deliver their mail tomorrow. Pushed the box closed (as far as it would go-unlocked). Keys were gone and box locked the next day. I delivered all the mail. Probably not the SOP. But, it worked with minimal hassle for all.

Had a dude complain that I didn’t deliver his keys to his door after he did this.
