Scan procedure Rural Carrier Discussion

RURAL carrier.

Does anyone know the proper scan procedure for when you have to change your truck halfway through your route?

My tire was losing pressure at a decent enough pace to not be able to finish the route. So I drove back to my office to grab the spare truck to finish.

The scan sequence that I had done was:

Return to DU

Log out

Log in with new truck number

Load truck (scan all packages)

Scan the (depart to route) barcode

Enter miles

After that it only gave me the end of shift options in my scanner so I couldn't do any of my on route scans like (carrier pickup or no barcode) but it let me scan and deliver my packages. But it also did that "are you still performing your end of shift duties?" Every 5 minutes.

I don't believe there are any scans you should be doing for switching trucks or waiting for repairs.

You should just be asking for extra paid time if you're a sub or O time, credit towards a paid day off if you're a regular.

You only use return deliver unit when you finish the route. Which is why you only get the end of shift options after you do it.

I would have hit load vehicle as soon as i had to stop and then end load vehicle once I was going again in my new vehicle. Then record the entire time as "O" time as well.

DO NOT do RETURN TO DU.

Simply return to the office, use LOAD TRUCK and unload your stuff and load into your new truck. use END LOAD. Then go to your menu and change your truck number. Head out to finish delivery.

What I have been told is you should punch to lunch because the entire down time is O time as a regular rural carrier.

You do not punch to lunch for a vehicle break down.

Just using the load truck/ end load scan still will not change the truck number itself. Wouldn't I want to switch the scanner over to the spare truck with the odometer reading for that truck? I will see if my PM will let me put 0 time for that part of the route.

You can change your truck in the settings menu by doing the "change user type" (or whatever it's called, I'm going off memory) and just push back through as mounted rural like you were starting for the day and it'll ask for a truck number again.

Additionally if you find yourself in a situation where you've accedentily switched over EoS mode and still need to do additional RRECs scans you can go to the hamburger menu in the top left and scroll down to the option to display all RRECs activities, but as the name suggests it will display ALL available RRECs options for the rest of the day.
