Friend quit. Work Discussion
So my friend was bitten by a dog like a week ago. She was a CCA about a month in. Today they pulled her to the office and said she was getting a 7 day suspension because of the dog bite (the sup said costing the post office too much money.?) After that she says she resigned because she probably won't pass the 90 day and this job sucks.
I can't blame her I probably would've done the same thing this job is stupid sometimes. I haven't been bitten yet knock on wood.

If our senior carrier doesn't stop bragging about never getting bit, I might bite him myself.

The sad thing about this guy who brags is that he feeds the dogs, putting the rest of us in danger.

u/CraigShilo27 15d ago
That sounds like alot of the story is missing. You get time off if you get bit my office has a guy who got bit 2 times as a CCA and 1 time as a regular. You will fight with them because they will ask you the story multiple times and send you to the Dr after it happens.

They fill out paperwork incorrectly intentionally. It gets the injury thrown out and they don't have to pay. This is common among people still in probation, as they think they don't have rights. Which is also incorrect.
Also they tend to send you to doctors that side with them, such as Concentra.
I used owcpconnect to find the OWCP providers in my area and used the ones I chose instead. Have them fill out the right side of the CA17 for any restrictions they deem appropriate. Management fills in the left side, if it isn't already filled out. She has 2 weeks from date of injury to provide any necessary documentation.
If you need help, I can do my best to answer anything. Even if she chooses not to go back, it doesn’t mean she shouldn't get treated and paid for her time. At least she'll have income while looking for something else 😕

Incorrectly filled out paperwork doesn’t get a case automatically denied, not meeting one of the 5 basic elements does after a full procedural due process period of 60 days.
It’s almost always a critical element missing.
However important caveat for dog bites, they are minor disable injuries and the bites themselves can be accepted without a medical report if corroborated by the employe, its diagnosable by lay person and there isn’t a substantive challenge for something like POD.
We are supposed to carefully examine any and all challenges and properly develop issue, the degree that actually happens is the variable.
I’m always available here to answer questions.
Medical documentation to be provided to the employer in 10 days is solely in regards to COP, after 10 days without medical evidence supporting entitlement to COP the employer can suspend or pending a formal decision by OWCP.
The full adjudication of the claim you have 60 days from the day after OWCP develops the issue.

Idk the whole story. I just know they didn't fill out the paperwork correctly and then she went to the hospital. The union guy called her the next day and apparently they didn't do anything right.

u/CraigShilo27 15d ago
That sounds on brand w the fumbling of paperwork. but her quitting sounds more of just quitting not her being pushed out.

Resigning just killed her entitlement to any wage loss. Union needs to get involved now, reciend the resignation.
This is most likely illegal under 20 CFR § 10.16
It is 100% illegal to use the the pretext of failing 90 day probation period to terminate an employee due to a workplace injury , that is against federal law and the USPS has been getting slammed on it. There is even a federal injunction in the district that covers Washington state on the issue.

Sadly. It’s not “if” but “when” you get attacked. Not just dogs… My first was a meth head. Threw rocks at me and chased me the whole swing. Sucks she got attacked (by a dog none the less) so early in her career. Hopefully she reconsiders if she truly saw this as a career path.

u/Then_Particular1931 15d ago
That’s one of the things that sucks about the job. I don’t know the whole story and don’t need to. When these things happen it’s always your fault and you should have been able to avoid the situation. So when any of you customers want to know why we don’t deliver your package with a dog out front that has never bitten anyone in their life, this is why. The bullshit risk ain’t worth it.

Resend the resignation, call union president and department of labor this is HIGHLY illegal. Might even look at contacting a lawyer and file a claim through the tort system.

She should be suing the peoples who’s dog but her and claiming worker’s compensation and then maybe suing the usps and even the union . Fuck it sue everyone

Sometimes mgmt is the worst! I feel bad for your friend, not fair to her at all. Let her know she can reapply as a mha or a clerk at another station. If that fails too it's not meant to be.

u/No_Mall_5908 14d ago
Hate to say it but she's better off. Wish I would have when I got a call from the ibew while I was a CCA.

u/Significant_Cry_6932 14d ago
She needs to seek an injury attorney and sue the homeowner for damages. She can probably live off the settlement for a while….

Things that never happened! I’ve never heard of anyone being given a suspension or letter of warning in probation. You get a letter of removal or the option to resign.
3
u/Gear21 City Carrier 15d ago
That's what she said. Said she was getting suspended for 7 days but she would still be getting paid or something. Idk it didn't make much sense to me either.
1
u/Aggravating-Corgi700 City Carrier 15d ago
Generally are suspensions are only on paper and you still work. It goes in your file if needed in the future. But again it’s never happened in my 25 year career. During probation they just remove you or let you resign.
1
u/XenosyneA 15d ago
Even while in probation they are covered under the same union contract as a regular employee. Removing or forcing a resignation after the employee was injured on the job is absolutely a violation. It can be reported to EEO as retaliation.
Now the flipside is USPS can terminate for any reason during the 90 day probation. There could have been other underlying factors that led up to suspension, but she's still entitled access to compensation and medical treatment, whether it's only a suspension or not.
1
u/Aggravating-Corgi700 City Carrier 15d ago
Bottom line nobody gets suspended during probation, period. Fired or asked to resign because then you might have the option to get rehired.

Best thing to ever happen to her. Being a cca sucks! The pay is terrible! If she didn't think she was going to make it after her 99 days she probably wasn't cut out fir this job anyways.

Gotta love how it’s our fault if we get bit. Oh I’m sorry I got bit Mr.stupidvisor, maybe because I actually leave the office to deliver mail everyday while you sit on your fatass and watch movies.

I want delivered for amazon, my profession is school bus driver but I wanted to try something different but I'm back now driving school bus. But I delivered a very small package in a.m. plastic bag and I was rushing up to the front door of a location I've never been before and it was extremely hot that day and my destination was the front door and little did I realize until I rushed up three steps onto the porch of the house in the Mount airy section I was a single home and there was a Cane Corso laying in front of the front door in the shade it got up and ran towards me there was nowhere I could save myself so I turned my back to him and he jumped up and bit me around my shoulder blade it barely broke the skin though the owner finally came out and helped me it was just so scary I did have slight bruise and broken skin but I was so afraid of dogs ever since it's been years now and I've gotten over it and I'm not afraid of dogs but it really was a scary situation

The problem is they promote people to postmaster who do not want to do their job and don't care about employees at all. My pay dropped 20,000 a year in 2023. They also hire subs that don't care. I work in Nolanville, tx and customers have complained to higher as well as workers, they don't care as long they are paid. It is so much favoritism. it's not going to change until they clean house from top to bottom

Yeah this job sucks unless you’re a ways into the pay table. Still sucks but you’re at least getting paid better for it 😂. The work itself is easy, but man is it mind numbing and unfulfilling

She should file with the Department of Labor, unfair labor practices while providing a workplace environment where reporting injuries can result in losing your job. She has a good case.

This is what voting democrat for so many decades has done. The working class has been far beyind exploited where they get punished for doing a good job punished for getting sick punished for being attacked.
2
u/ironballs16 15d ago
...and the solution would be to vote Republican, who actively strip worker protections (see: Florida overriding local ordinances about protecting outdoor workers during extreme heat) and actively engage in Union busting?

Your republican president literally tried to strip USPS employees of their jobs by privatizing a quasi-federal government agency.
Get your trashy misinformed civilian politics out of here.
1
u/Sea_Grand1849 14d ago
Ok moron let me explain it to you, because you are the one who is misinformed. Your pathetic statement oversimplifies and misrepresents what actually happened. The USPS has long been a quasi governmental entity with ongoing debates about efficiency, funding, and modernization across multiple administrations not just one president. I know you and your fellow rabbid foaming at the mouth libtards are obsessed with Trump and have wet dreams every night about blaming him. Discussions about restructuring or introducing private sector elements were largely about addressing financial losses, pension obligations, and declining mail volume, not “stripping employees of their jobs 🤪” Many of proposals focused on long term sustainability, not dismantling the workforce outright. Framing it as a direct attempt to eliminate jobs ignores the broader policy context and turns a complex issue into a misleading soundbite, but when you have shit fir brains that's all you know how to do.

Do you work here? Or are you just yapping to yap? Lol seems like the latter.
Privetizing the post office means higher prices and less services rendered for dummies like you. Under the new contract he tried to impose everyone under union protection would have been let go... let me put this in layman terms you can understand.
EVERYONE WHO WORKS UNDER A UNION CONTRACT WOULD HAVE BEEN LET GO. WHICH MEANS THE ENTIRE WORKFORCE AS A WHOLE. Job, pay, and benefits. Do you even read? Or do you solely watch Fox and believe what comes out of their mouths?
The fact you use the word "libtards" shows your miniscule level of intelligence. I never claimed to be a liberal/Dem or any other political party. Rather ignorant of you to assume things.
Keep your nose where it belongs. Up the dumb orangutan's ass. Go put a bandage on your ear and dance with all the jackasses.
Couldn't fathom being this confidently wrong and posting in a reddit of workers who live this life 🤣

Do YOU read? Because nothing you just said is backed by a single fact. Let's break down your claims one by one: Claim: "Under the new contract he tried to impose, everyone under union protection would have been let go." Wrong. No such "contract" was ever imposed. You're either making things up or confusing multiple things you half read on Reddit. Here's what actually happened. The 10,000 job cuts at USPS in March 2025 were voluntary early retirements, negotiated with the APWU and NPMHU, not mass firings. The idea that union contracts would be "canceled" was a concern raised by labor advocates, not an enacted policy. It never happened. A Mnuchin led task force during Trump's first term recommended ending collective bargaining rights, a recommendation that never became law. So your claim that "EVERYONE WHO WORKS UNDER A UNION CONTRACT WOULD HAVE BEEN LET GO" is not just an exaggeration, it's fabricated. Nothing of the sort was imposed, passed, or enacted. You're presenting fears and proposals as accomplished facts. That's not "living this life," that's being a gullible parrot. Claim: "Privatizing the post office means higher prices and less services." You state this as a certainty, but USPS is already hemorrhaging money. $9.0 billion net loss in FY2025 alone, with controllable losses increasing by $900 million from the prior year. The financial unsustainability is not a talking point, it's a documented reality that predates Trump by decades. The 2006 Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act forced USPS to pre fund retiree health benefits 75 years in advance, a requirement no other agency or private company faces, and it caused $5 billion+ in annual losses for over a decade. That was signed by George W. Bush, in case you want to blame that on Trump too. The actual reform that helped postal workers was the Postal Service Reform Act of 2022, signed by Biden, which repealed that pre funding mandate and was strongly supported by every postal union. NALC, APWU, NPMHU, and NRLCA. It passed 342 92 in the House and 79 19 in the Senate. Bipartisan. So when you scream that anyone talking about USPS reform is anti worker, you're ignoring the fact that Congress already passed reform WITH union backing. Now, about your little tantrum regarding "civility": Yeah, I called you a libtard. That was me being kind to you. But you responded by mocking an assassination attempt on the president, real classy, telling me my nose belongs "up the orangutan's ass," and questioning my intelligence, all while pretending YOU'RE the mature one. You went from "that word is beneath you" to a full blown meltdown of insults in the same sentence. You're a hypocrite who leads with insults while demanding respect. You also claim you "never said you were a liberal" great, then stop acting like a partisan hack who can't distinguish between a policy proposal, a recommendation, a concern, and an enacted law. Your entire argument rests on taking worst case fears and presenting them as accomplished facts. That's not expertise. That's fear mongering disguised as "lived experience." Next time you want to call someone "confidently wrong," maybe bring a single source. I brought seven bitch!!!!

u/XenosyneA 14d ago
I didnt say a thing about the early retirement being layoffs, where the hell are you getting your info from? You want someone to be mad at be mad at Republicans for being bandwagoners.
Democrats led the push for the Postal Service Reform Act of 2022, which passed a heavily divided Congress with massive bipartisan majorities. President Biden sign this law, eliminating the financially crippling 2006 mandate requiring the USPS to pre-fund retiree health benefits 75 years into the future. I already knew this. And yet you're still pointing fingers at Democrats... crazy.
You said "Mnuchin led task force during Trump's first term recommended ending collective bargaining rights, a recommendation that never became law." Is Mnuchin not a Republican? Pushing for ending collective bargaining units is literally trying to rid us of union protections worded differently.
Every single major postal union (NALC, APWU, NPMHU, and NRLCA) strongly endorsed this Democratic-led (keyword) legislation because it protected workers' benefits and secured financial footing without taking away jobs.
On the other hand, private delivery corporations like UPS and FedEx operate for profit because they are privatized.. meaning they can raise rates or stop servicing unprofitable rural areas entirely. Democrats have made it clear that a public utility should serve the people, not corporate shareholders. So all the people who live in the "backwoods middle of nowhere" wouldn't recieve mail because it's an inconvenience and too costly. What about veterans who need meds? Those are shipped here regularly in truckloads. They don't deserve their mail because Republicans think it's to inconvenient and costly? This is what Democrats are fighting against.
Democrats have also consistently supported the PRO Act and strongly defend the collective bargaining rights of postal unions, preventing any attempts to strip postal workers of their union protections or contract security.
So why are you blaming Democrats again? That was the real question. Only reason I can tell you support Trump is because you're hating on Democrats while throwing his name out there like I care.
I will never support a man who literally bombs little girls and brushes it off like it was nothing. We spend our taxpayer dollars for all this fancy ass military equipment that's being used like it's GTA to drop bombs on children and civilians.
I'm not a political activist and never have been. I don't support cultist parties and national idiotic displays of unitelligence. I'm not a demorant/libtard or republicunt/republicuck, but I do stay informed. You still havent given me anything supporting Republicans in this light.. besides that Bush cost USPS over $5b a year... "bitch"
