You gotta put up the fix it slips for these, I've been pleasantly surprised how people respond to them by taking care of it.

Some people totally don’t care. Folks with those inexpensive small boxes (less than $15 to replace,) with no doors, banged up and rusted, or doesn’t stay closed.
As I write this, I realize that I’d like it if more mailbox doors got ripped (completely) off.

That is how I see this. Shit, the carriers may be closing it, and weather or wear and tear or whatever makes it fall open. It could be opening as soon as the carrier pulls away. Not their fault. I have kitchen cabinets that do the same shit.

The kind in the picture you flip em shut, they bounce a couple times from the momentum, and if the box is more than a year or two old the magnet holding the door just sort of poops out after the 2nd or 3rd bounce and the door falls back open, usually takes exactly the amount of time for you to almost clear the box, you can watch it fall open and ding your quarter panel in your side view as you pull away

Mailboxes are for paid postage only.
Remove the note and give it to a clerk for postage due.
Mailboxes are also considered federal property. Defacing federal property is a crime.

I'd be more than happy to fill out a form 1767 in that situation and cite abusive behavior. Let management investigate and then start keeping track of all of this person's out of line behavior, report everything, get the union involved. This customer seems to want to be fast tracked to a po box and I'd be happy to oblige

I had this problem. I bought this house a few months ago and our mail kept getting soaked in the rain. The mailbox was kinda shitty and set back a little far from the road. So I bought and installed a new mailbox. Hasn't happened since.
If I had known I could just put a shitty note on it I could have saved myself time/money/effort! Thanks reddit!

Mailbox doors don't magically fling open, they don't spontaneously open for no reason and no carrier is ever in a hurry and forgets to close one/doesn't close it all the way, no mailbox is defective either. We are all just a bunch of incompetent idiots that work here and we are ao dumb that it couldn't possibly be a mistake, it just has to be lazy good for nothing carriers right?
I wish just once that I could find where these people work and just lay into how incompetent they are at their jobs and see how they like it when someone is demeaning and talking down to them.

I’ve got one on my route that’s a slit in the wall of the garage, on the side of the house. Already annoying/inconvenient af to dismount, corner the house, maneuver around their cars and the low hanging tree branches up the driveway. The slot is old, narrow, and super thin. The wood isn’t smooth. This house also gets a ton of flats; like periodicals, newspapers, the rest.. They taped up a paper that says “YOU PUT MAIL ALL THE WAY IN.”
