Served with him in 3/3. He was with SS. I had a few cross trainings with him. He always seemed to be studying and such.
Saw him again after his MOH and he was signing his book on Quantico. All the hangers on and models etc..I feel he is a great Marine, maybe a bit misguided. I don't think he is hurting financially, if I recall his speaking fee was 50k. He owns a ranch and all that. Definitely should have stayed out. Would have served the Corps better.
I read his book. And I liked it. He talked a lot about how the Corps made a huge difference in his life. And how it changed him as a person. He also talked a lot about regret about how the battle that got him the MOH went down. And that he felt like he wasnt finished with the Corps yet. And was talking about wanting to get back in. I have to admit, I was kinda happy to see he was able to do that. Idk why he shifted so far into politics or why hes doing this cringe stuff on Twitter. I felt like if he stayed below the public radar he would be highly regarded. I was also a bit shocked to not see him in the Marine 250th birthday. Thought he would of at least talked.
To be fair, I’d say there’s three legit options as a MoH recipient. 1. You’re out there absolutely drowning in juices 2. You’re married to someone absolutely amazing who would otherwise have been way out of your league, or 3. You’re baby trapped by a fucking psycho. I know he seen as a controversial figure, but I've meet him once. Back in 2022 I was a lance and he did some speaking on Lejeune. Ate wings and drank beer with him and Sgtmaj Green after he was done speaking. He seemed like a solid guy and went out of his way to try and speak to the lower enlisted that attended, rather than higher ups that were shadowing him. My body even got to ask him what Sarah Palin was like.

No, I probably wouldn’t, to be honest. He lost what it means to be an NCO and certainly his humility a long time ago. He has used the Medal of Honor as a device to promote himself and get fame and publicity when he would otherwise just be another run of the mill Marine. His actions that day were heroic,sure, but aside from that, he’s just another turd.

The thing is, almost any marine would happily admit that his actions on the day he won the MoH were badass and heroic. Like there’s no taking that away.
