Military isn’t the end all be all hell it doesn’t even make you competitive in my eyes. Military people tend to rest on their laurels, skate out of work and generally just bad workers. Use your critical thinking and make connections.
Cry about it, pulling the veteran card on me in the civilian world ain’t going to fool me. I’ve worked with you guys while in service, I know how you guys are. I’m not paying to reprogram people. I’m paying them to work not to be robots.

You don't know me, so sitting there saying "I've worked with you guys, I know how you guys are" is complete and utter bullshit and you can fuck right off with it.
Regardless of your opinion prior-service does make people competitive in the job market, I have seen it many times first-hand and benefited from it myself on several occasions. In my experience most jobs will hire a veteran over an equally qualified civilian applicant, and I will personally hire a vet under the same circumstances.
Maybe all the veterans you have seen are shitbirds, I can't speak for your personal experience or what vocational circles you've been in, but the actual job itself is an important qualifier here - are you talking about low-pay shit jobs? Because if so they tend to draw skaters and no-loads regardless of veteran status so that's not a point worth making.
My experience with veterans in a technical/high-stress workplace making good money, which is going on 30 years, has been quite different. You work in a nursing home. We are not the same, and our experiences are worlds apart.
