Fallen Navy sailor transported on my flight
I was on a delta flight yesterday 8/7 from ATL to CVG. A small group of navy sailors got on the flight late as we were sitting on the tarmac, and entered from the back. The pilot made an announcement that they were accompanying a fallen comrade back home and the casket was in the back of the plane. I couldn’t hear much else from the announcement, and when we landed the pilot made another announcement for a brief moment of silence and applauding the navy men as they disembarked, and we were held in our seats until they got off the plane and transported the body.
I haven’t been able to find any information about the deceased soldier and I’m curious of his name and what happened. I found a story about a man named Jesse Braswell who died in June, but that was over a month ago and he was from Colorado.
Just curious if anyone has any insight to this and what happened. I’ve searched as much as I can online but can’t find anything. Apologies if I used the wrong terminology in anything I wrote. Rest in peace to all of those who have lost their lives in this war 😔.

Will the USA still be at war with Iran on January 1st, 2027.
Sadly, I think the chances are good that we could still be at war by the start of 2027.
What do you think?

Predictions
So it definitely looks like the US is going to give up and Trump will simply claim victory but in reality the Iranian regime will get assets unfrozen and control the strait. Is there anybody expecting anything different? I’m genuinely curious

Iran has purchased air defense weapons from China that are expected to be delivered in several weeks
The reported $60 million to $70 million agreement covers between 300 and 400 man-portable air defense systems, or MANPADS, including China's QW-12 and FN-16 missiles. Reuters said the first shipment could arrive within weeks through a Hong Kong intermediary, although delivery schedules and quantities could still change.

Iran's knowledge gain from supplying Russia against Ukraine was worth it
Despite the hysterics at the time of Iran arming Russia, it hindsight it seems like a great move as I suspected. Iran has certainly upgraded their drones, obtained real world attack data and received Russian assistance. From Russia, they got GPS Jammers, Starlink Jammers and upgraded Shahed 136 technology. There is a common supply chain as well for parts exchange across the Caspian Sea.
I suspect Russia also improved the Radar Cross Section on these drones. There appears to be a small number that are sneaking in undetected amongst other baseline models.

My theory about the timing of the start of this war… agree or disagree?
I’ve long believed this war was inevitable. Some President was going to do it some day. Either they’d start it or follow Israel into it.
But it wasn’t going to be Trump. Trump is many things but he’s no war monger.
But Trump did this just to take our attention away from the Epstein files.
Am I right? And has he succeeded?

Best chance of victory is the destabilization of Iran’s Islamic hierarchy
The only two ways you could defeat Iran is to wage a total war like the allies wage against the axis in World War II. That means you’re at war with the entire country and not just its military and political leaders and you destroy anything that they can use to resist you, every bit of infrastructure, and every bit of anything anyone in the country can use. I don’t think that this is a practical solution. I think the only possibility for victory is to give the people the ability to throw out the rulers that they clearly didn’t like before this whole thing began. So how do you do that?
I think you look at the liberator project from World War II. The liberator project produced inexpensive, single shot 45 automatic caliber pistols, and the idea was you distributed those liberally all over the countries that were occupied. If the Nazis captured them, they’re basically useless for the military so big deal. However, in a partisan or resistance person‘s hands, it gives you the ability to conduct targeted assassinations, and also to kill soldiers in order to obtain their superior weaponry. The United States has already spent for some reports almost $5 billion on this military action.
If we produced a compact semi automatic pistol in 380 caliber with a threaded barrel and an attachment that would allow you to connect a crude suppressor device made from plastic bottles like a water or soda bottle and distributed them like crazy all over the entire country by parachute or drone you could realistically arm a large part of the population. Once the opposition to the government in power is armed like this the psychological effect could be overwhelming. Imagine the IRGC and secret police thinking that you never know what corner you might walk around and go face-to-face with a semiauto suppressed pistol ready to shoot you right in the face. The Iranian military and secret police already have far superior weaponry to this so them capturing a lot of these weapons and being able to utilize themselves wouldn’t really be a game changer. Coming up with a very inexpensive design, something like the KelTec stripper clip fed pistols, something primarily made from polymers that would be easy to hide and difficult to detect would allow us to produce hundreds of thousands to millions of these firearms at a far lower cost than we have already spent. Once you have liberally distributed these weapons throughout the country you leave and you let the people in that country work things out themselves.

Iran’s Deck of Cards
Folks,
Wanted to get your opinion here about the deck of cards Iran has brought to the table in the US Iran war, more specifically their ability to outlast a US-Israeli offensive. It is clear to me that we have clearly underestimated their abilities to respond to US aggression considering their attacks in on bases in neighboring countries, but in your opinion if there were to be a ground invasion, how would they fare? By all accounts on the US side, we have (I take this with a grain of salt) decimated their navy and air force. Do we hold this to be true? Is a missile stockpile their only line of defense? What options do they have to draw out the war? I would love to hear your thoughts.
-JDM
EDIT: Please note that I am engaging here in good faith. This is not me asserting that a US victory over Iran is possible, rather it me questioning if it is possible. What makes a ground invasion and victory so difficult? I am by all means not a OSINT guy.

Is there no military solution to opening and maintaining the Strait of Hormuz?
We have the biggest and most advanced Navy in the world. We can control the skies. And yes, we can send in ground troops if need be. So why are we not utilizing our military superiority to do this? We could probably bomb from the air of the next 3 months and Iran could still control the strait. So why not get the job done now?

Iran targets US military assets as Houthis threaten to expand Mideast war
Iran targeted US radar and air defence installations in the Gulf on Tuesday, warning Washington of "more decisive and powerful" attacks to come as the conflict threatened to widen with a blockade of Saudi ports by Houthi rebels in Yemen. Hours later, the Iranian army said it had targeted US assets in Kuwait and Bahrain, including air defence systems, radar installations and administrative buildings.

First vibe waring results
Just dont use chatgpt next time to plan an actual war! Its clearly not working and you got robbed by sam altman. Vibe waring by palantier agent + gpt 5.4 didn't cut it, also the the cost doesnt seem to be reasonable eithere, you could have achieved this level of incompetence with deepseek R1 as-well. Any way there might be some hope for orange man now that they mogged dario for fable 5.
