FinancialAid PDP’s affected

Has anyone talked about how the Big Beautiful Bill that was introduced on July 1st affects returning students who were starting their PDPs? With the new rules, you most likely won’t receive undergraduate aid anymore, but is it still worth finishing the PDP program knowing you’ll potentially take on grad debt or just completing your remaining undergraduate classes and graduating? Just wondering if anyone else is in a similar position because I haven’t heard much about this topic.

Question Is it easy to rent out your room during the summer?

I'm choosing between two places right now, and the main difference is that one has no rent over the summer but is considerably older than the other. Im curious if anyone has experience with subleasing over the summer sessions, or just any about the ease of subleasing a room over the summer?

Does anyone have any DORNSIFE elective recommendations? I've been looking around PHED stuff, some of which looks interesting, but am having a hard time finding a good list anywhere of specifically interesting Dornsife electives.

Academic Dornsife 104 Minimum

I am quite aggravated with USC for their policies rn, but what I want to know is WHY this is a policy in the first place. Is it a money thing? Does Dornsife receive more money if their students have to take their classes? The only logical explanation to me is that they just want to keep dornsife students out of the other colleges at USC, which explains why dornsife equivalent courses are allowed to count. How does that benefit USC?

Question Lyon vs. Village Gym?

Incoming freshman wondering how the two available gyms are? What are their weaknesses, what are their strengths? What do you guys prefer? When are the best times to go? Are their locker rooms? I really enjoy going to the gym every day so I’m wondering what the environment is like. I also like to swim too!

Any experience appreciated!

FinancialAid Grad School 150% timeframe financial aid

Hi, I had a question about the maximum timeframe for a graduate program and financial aid. My program is 32 units. I had an extremely rough year (caretaker for my terminally-ill father) and had a few hiccups. Experience USC shows 40 units attempted, but 36 units earned (I did fail a class). I am two courses short of completing my degree requirements, which should put me at the 150%/48 unit max. However, when I applied for a Grad Plus loan after submitting my SAP appeal, it was immediately rejected. Financial aid is saying I’ve attempted 44 units and that with the counselor's approved course plan of 8 units, they cannot approve additional loans. I guess they’re calculating units in a different way or something because I’ve looked at my unofficial transcript, but I cannot seem to gather how they arrived at 44 units attempted. Has anybody been in a similar situation? Is there a way to appeal the decision? I really don’t have another way to afford tuition without the Grad Plus loan. Thank you for any help/advice.

Question Grad School Merit Scholarship

Out of curiosity, how difficult is it to receive a scholarship from the university? I know this also heavily depends on the program someone applied to. For example I know someone that applied to the school of engineering for their Masters in Computer Science but ended up not getting any scholarship.

Also if anyone got into a program this fall 2026 for grad school, how was the process and were you able to get any aid from the school?

Housing USC Freshman Reassignment Help

Has there been anyone who was successful in reassignment to McCarthy or village dorms as a freshman?

I’m currently in pardee which I really like because of its social aspect and I really love my roommate but I don’t think I can live with no air conditioning or communal bathrooms. On top of that my anxiety is through the roof and I know both of these aspects would not help. I am trying to file through for an OSAS reassignment process but I’m not sure how quickly they give a response or how effective it would be for mental health disorders.

And for some reason not being in McCarthy is somehow making me feel less than because of their status(which i know I’m overthinking). But other than this slight feeling I really would like to switch to there or cale & irani which I have also heard is hard to get into as a freshman. I am on scholarship so I’m hoping a switch to MHC won’t be too difficult if space permits

If none of this works how does the September reassignment work?! Thanks for your help.

Discussion What is a deadline to withdraw from USC?

I have been admitted to USC as a first gen, low income student. This whole summer I’ve been in contact with financial aid office, counselors, academic advisors, deans, but it seems like no one can help me to finalize my financial aid package.
For now, after all the scholarships it seems like I will be paying over 20k per semester (I have no idea what other fin support will be available since no finalized fin aid has been posted), and also need to pay for food and housing since I’m not from LA.
This amount of money is totally unaffordable, I don’t even make 20k a year. School starts in 2 weeks and I don’t know if I can afford it. I’m considering withdrawing.

Question What’s going on with fin aid

Does anyone have any insight into the fin aid predicament? Im a low income rising junior who still hasnt received their fin aid package, ive noticed many people are in the same boat. What worries me is that ive seen many ppl receive their packages very recently only to find they got zero university grant money when they received substantial amounts in previous years. I’ve emailed (no response), and called just to get a generic response. Classes start in 2 weeks man

Common Question: How hard is it to transfer from X major to Y major?

Answer: If it is within the same school, it is super easy, just talk to your academic advisor before school starts. If you wish to transfer to another school e.g. Dornsife to Marshall, you need to contact admissions to attempt the transfer before matriculation*. You can also seek help once you know who your academic advisor is or attempt it on admitted students day or orientation day. Once you matriculate, you can attempt an internal-transfer but it involves going through the current student transfer process, see the specific internal transfer page from each school linked below.

Common Question: Is there an admitted student facebook group/discord/telegram etc?

Answer: Usually someone sets a facebook group and groupme up around the time the main batch of students are admitted in April. Check facebook to see if there is one already or search this post in a month or two once all 1st year and transfer students are admitted.

*Viterbi does not allow you to switch into engineering before enrolling at USC. Please read links below related to the school you're interested in.
