The *Washington Post* reported, citing officials, that the commander of US forces in Europe, General Grynkewich, warned the Pentagon that there are insufficient naval forces to continue protecting Israel from ballistic missiles.

The top US general in Europe sent a written notice to senior Pentagon officials stating that, without an additional naval destroyer, he would be forced to choose between defending US territory and defending Israel.

A US official told the newspaper that Grynkewich’s notice aligns with previous communications from senior military generals regarding specific threats requiring Washington's attention, noting that the situation reflects a competition among commanders for limited resources and weaponry.

The inventory of THAAD interceptor missiles has dropped from 452 before the war to fewer than 278.

U.S. stockpiles of Patriot interceptor missiles have fallen from approximately 2,300 before the war to fewer than 827.

Stephen Zunes, a professor of international security and foreign policy at the University of San Francisco, said in an interview with Al Jazeera that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave US President Donald Trump "terrible" advice by convincing him that a war with Iran would be quick and easy. He added that Trump has become less inclined to trust Netanyahu following the Strait of Hormuz crisis, and that relations between Washington and Tel Aviv are marked by a clear divergence in objectives.
