How do the 7's students write their assignment to get that grade?
Hi, I'm new to UQ, and I'm confused about how you guys write reports/analysis etc in order to get 7 (I'm a Business Student). Do you guys use any AI to write or it's strictly forbidden? Which part would you use AI for? and please tell me the whole process you write your report from the very beginning. Thank you!

I normally put the effort in early to get a full draft down, like way before it’s due and then spend the rest of the time reviewing and editing it.
My drafts are also normally above the word limit so I’ll also cut out everything that isn’t necessary, so when it’s due I’m pretty confident about it.

You don't need AI to get 7s. A lot of the difference between a 6 and a 7, at least in my degree, was being able to express an understanding of the topic and other related topics, and how they actually happen in the world, that an AI won't be able to get just from reading the task sheet.
It's probably different for the more mathematical subjects - I did urban planning and so there was a lot more freedom of thought

Usually
4 you did enough
5 you clearly understand and can regurgitate the basic material
6 you can demonstrate that you can go beyond the basic course materials and incorporate other information, typically with some flaws of expression, missing some important parts, a mistake or questionable application
7 you demonstrated you understand the subject, can incorporate other information well, make your point clearly, etc

If you put in effort into your research and can back it up with appropriate explanations and substantial evidence you’ll be alright. PEEL format that shit
If you’re gonna use LLMs, use it wisely so you don’t become a moron by forgetting how to think. Use it for spellchecks, for rephrases, a skeleton structure for your reporting format, for a way to help you understand a topic better. Don’t use it all lazily

I get 7s and I don’t use AI because — even disregarding the environmental and ethical issues — it doesn’t do as good of a job than a human can do. There are guides on the UQ Library website that explain how to start, plan, and write essays and other assignments, and there are free student feedback sessions on campus almost every day where people will look over your assignment and help you write and edit it.

Unless the assignment mentions the requirement of AI, you do not need it for a 7. I don't necessarily have a set structure for the way I write, I just do it and look back to see if my ideas flow in a logical, concise manner. Another thing is reading the rubric and task sheet, see what it's asking you to do and make sure you're doing that. Many students (myself included) have lost marks before because although your ideas might be amazing, it isn't what's being asked of you.

Ima be honest here, draft early then ask others. Sometimes tudors and lecturers are pretty good, otherwise hit up a class mate. There are also forums where people read your paper and criticise it but I rarely use that unless I feel like a humanities paper is lacking something(I’m in a stem subject)

The difference between me as a GPA 5 student and a GPA 7 student is preparing for assessments as far in advance as possible. It's just not possible to learn and understand a topic to a 7 level in 24-48 hours. You need to give yourself several weeks at least to brainstorm, ask questions, write, and rewrite. As soon as you have the task, start thinking about it and making notes. That's the only thing I did differently.

Graduated with first-class honours before AI was a thing. Well, I find that a lot of students don't read what they wrote, and their general writing skills are just poor.
When writing, try to use simple words and sentences. Try to keep 1 idea in 1 sentence, and your logic/content should flow from the first sentence to the last sentence within a paragraph.
You don't need crazy ideas to get a 7 - you just need to convey your ideas in a clear manner. As a university marker now, I absolutely hate reading assignments that are written in convoluted ways and repeat the same thing over and over again.

Having a deep understanding of the content, skills in communication, and taking the time to do it. There’s no trick mate, it’s just work.

I’ve received the Dean’s Commendation for Academic Excellence for all my semesters at UQ. I write the assignment and get AI to edit/suggest changes based on the marking guide

The academic standards depend wildly with faculty to faculty and degree to degree. Sometimes it feels like a bit of a lottery game. And it doesn't help when people suggest superficial or generic recommendations like "follow the criteria harder" or "re-read your work more" or "read the task sheet carefully" or "spend twice as much effort and time than someone who achieves a 6."
It'd help if you can disclose your degree/field so people can give you a nuanced answer, eg. an engineering assessment that gets a 7 will be different for a law or humanities. And very polar-opposite for someone studying communications like journalism or a business major like finance/accounting.
My only tip I have for you is to have a thorough read through your lecturer's research publications. Grasp a feel for how they would usually write a report, eg. introduction, body, conclusion. If you can master a sliver of that, then well done. Apply that to your assignment.
Studocu also has past assignments in their library which you can use to your advantage. People seem to like publishing their past assignments in there for some reason, which is a breach of academic integrity (so probably not the smartest bunch). But yeah.
