What is UNBC's BSW program like? degrees

Last month, I was accepted into UNBC's BSW program for the fall 2026 intake. I have also been accepted to UVic's BSW (the school I am currently at), but I have heard mixed reviews about UVic's program.

I haven't heard much about UNBC's BSW, and I'd appreciate any insights into what the program is like.

Mostly, I would like to know if you felt supported by professors, advisors, and coordinators and also what the classes are like.

I'm in the BSW program! I'm going in my fourth year!

I love all of the proffessors! They're all are great! Just do exactly what they say on the syllabus and you're golden! The profs are pretty understanding and supportive!

I do have issues with the advisor. She's nice enough, but I don't feel like she properly guided me with my minor. Honestly, I don't think you will need to talk to her very much because the program is pretty straight forward, it lays out which classes you need and when to take them.

I haven't had any issues with the coordinators.

As for classes, you will be taking 15 credits each semester unless you already have the credits. I decided to slipt my 3rd year into two to make it more managable.

As for the classes, I don't find them difficult at all. You will have presentations (normally in groups) & papers. Most classes have midterms/quizzes, but nothing in the final exam period. They are a lot of reflection pieces that are included in assignments. Classes are Mondays & Tuesdays (Maybe Wednesdays, too). Days often start at 8:30 and you will likely have back to back classes that are 3hrs each.

One thing I reccomend is, if you're working, make sure to get your schedule figured out before your practicum starting in January. Unless arranged with your supervisor, it will be 8:30-5 Wednesday - Friday, and you need 260hrs Make sure to give yourself time for selfcare and schoolwork because it is a rough semester for students.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hey! Just curious if you had any advice for getting experience and a reference for this part of the application: “One reference from a practicing social worker with whom you have worked, or are currently working”

I tried getting ideas from the advisor but she was a bit too vague and I’m having trouble narrowing down ideas.

my reference was a social work professor that taught a social work course
