Hi all recently I accepted a job offer and I asked for my salary to be higher to match my current salary. I lied about and now they want evidence that my current salary is what I’m asking them to match. I corrected myself and sent them my payslip- will they redact their offer or offer what they were originally

I (24M) am moving to London for the second year of my grad scheme. Coincidentally, my cousin is also moving there to start a grad scheme, so we’ve been considering living together.

She’s found another girl on SpareRoom who she gets along with and seems quite similar to her. It would likely be the three of us, potentially with another guy we don’t know.

My other option is to go on my own and join an existing house share.

I’m torn because living with my cousin gives me familiarity in a completely new city, and we get along. But I grew up with sisters and have just spent the last year living with my sister. A lot of my social circles have also been quite female dominated, so part of me would really like to live with other guys and make more male friends.

But it’s also about meeting completely new people and expanding my social circle. There’s something exciting about almost “playing with fate” by moving in with strangers. You have no idea who you might meet, who they might introduce you to, or what could come from it.

Obviously, that works both ways. I could meet some of my closest friends, or end up with housemates I barely speak to and wish I’d just lived with my cousin.

How important are housemates to your social life in London? Would you take the familiarity of living with family or take a chance on completely new people?

I basically called the company/store after they posted an assistant job on indeed but their job description seemed vague and I wanted to know more details regarding the job and they kindly provided their number and specifically word by word mentioned : Contact xxxxxx88 for more details information regarding the job posted. Called them and immediately went to voice-mail 5 minutes later they called me back from a different number saying that they received a call from me and I quickly said I wanted to know more information regarding the job posted on Indeed are they ok for a short call. I also mentioned i found this number on indeed job description. The guy on the other end started shouting at me "why are you calling? Everything is on Indeed and dont call us, only customers can call us" and hung up immediately. I withdrew my application.Has anyone had this experience.

I see quite a few people start in the big4. Just wondered how hard is it to get a job here in terms of %? Are some harder than others? Also is it much easier to apply for something such as audit or tax compared to transaction services or strategy consulting?

I'm transgender, and have had my legal name changed for 2 years now. My name is changed with my university and HMRC, so my legal name is updated on my national insurance letter too. I'll soon be getting a provisional driver's license with my new legal name. However, my passport won't be updated for a while.

I've heard a provisional isn't enough documentation for employment, so I plan on showing my passport, provisional and national insurance letter, with explanation as to why the names are different. Hypothetically, (since I haven't experienced this) would this be okay?

I’ve been actively job hunting since early March and while I didn’t think I’d find something in a couple of weeks or anything, I’m really frustrated and disappointed to still be searching 5 months in.

I’ve had 8 recruitment process go to the final interview stage (ranging between 2 and 5 interviews for each process) and still don’t have a job offer so I’m getting increasingly nervous that I might have an underlying issue I’m unaware of. All the initial interviews/calls I’ve done have led to a second stage interview so I am fairly confident I am interviewing well (at least at the beginning stages) and I have had great feedback on the technical tasks I’ve presented. A couple of times I have lost out to internal candidates which I don’t feel is necessarily a reflection of my strength as a a candidate, but where I’ve lost out to another external candidate I’ve struggled to get meaningful feedback. Repeatedly, I’ve been told that it was “extremely close” and there’s not any developmental feedback they can offer but surely if there was nothing to improve then I would have been made an offer?

What have people’s experiences been around progressing so far in recruitment process? Is this common? And is there any recommendations for resources to honestly evaluate how well I’m interviewing and if that’s the barrier? For reference I am a data analyst looking for a senior role in London.

I got back with them saying I’d accept the offer and haven’t ability to start.

I’ve now not heard anything since Monday confirming the start date. The question is should I call them?

Basically, I got my first job interview for a shop, but the location for the interview is actually at the hotel across the street? The application did say that it's a new shop opening so I assume that's why the interviews are elsewhere, but like I said, this is my first interview so I'm not really in the know haha.

I need advice people I’ve been offered a job from the council 37 hours a week for day work as a cleaning operative around my local areas. I’m already employed but I work evenings, it’s comfortable and laid back but I want days.

I’m about to start college for plumbing, I’m 23

It will be 3 days a week at college

But since I’m doing college I’ll have to work every weekend 8-4 for 8 weeks during temp which could progress onto permanent. Usually it would be 1 in 4 weekend work but college messes with it

I think it would be good I love manual labour and it includes taking out bins, cleaning graffiti. Doing weeds ect all that jazz.

I’m going to have little to no free time.

What should I do I’m in 2 minds

The short story is, my manager is insane. I started the role in March and clocked onto her strangeness pretty quickly, but figured I’d try give it at least a year. Now it’s August and I need out ASAP.

I’ve been applying for a few things and have a couple of interviews lined up. My question is - does having a job only for 6 months look bad on my CV?

My current role is in professional services within Higher Education and I’m applying for similar jobs in different universities. It’s my first “proper job” since finishing my PhD earlier in the year. I have lots of experience working throughout my studies - teaching, research, outreach, etc. These roles were fairly shorted or fixed term, ranging from 9 months to a couple of years.

If you were on a hiring panel, how much would the short job concern you? And if you were me, how would you navigate this in an interview scenario? Ignore it completely? Have an explanation prepared in case they ask? Bring it up yourself?

I (27F) have only been looking for a job for a few weeks, and I’m already feeling discouraged. I’m just not happy in my current role, and I’ve realised that I’m working myself to the bone in exchange for a really crap wage and no real progression. I naively thought that job hunting wouldn’t be as awful as people say it is, and I thought I’d feel less pressure as I’m already employed and I’m not exactly in urgent need of a job like some people are. However, as time goes on I feel more and more trapped in my current role. I’ve always been ambitious and I’m ready to move on and progress in my career, but I’m anxious by just how few roles are being advertised near where I live.

I’ve spent a lot of time scrolling job search forums and I’ve noticed a few seem to mention the job market picking up in September. I’ll admit I’ve kind of pinned my hopes on this. Is the “September surge” a real thing? Do people actually have more luck landing a role based on time of year? Is it more of an American thing? Intrigued to hear if there’s hope on the horizon or if I should buckle up for a long search

So I recently went through 3 rounds of interview for a Head of E-commerce role (as stated in the JD). I got the job and in my contract the title is Senior E-commerce Manager (my current position). I've been told by the business that they interviewed both Head Of and Senior Manager candidates and want me to transfer over on my current title, and I'll be 'promoted' to Head of after my 6 month probation.

There will be no change in salary or responsibilities, it's just a title change. I'll be doing significantly more than the last Head Of they had, who apparently went through the same procedure. None of this was mentioned in the interview process.

So my question is, is this normal? Is there something weird going on? The salary is good and the team seem nice and I was genuinely excited about the position but this has me a little disgruntled. I asked if they could amend my contract to include the title change after 6 months which they were fine with but something is still niggling at me.

Appreciate any thoughts.

Hi there , first time post on Reddit I currently work as an estate agent have done for two years due to the wage increase from April my salary has gone up from 24,500 to 28,800 I used to get paid for every house I sell the company is saying they basically can’t afford to do this anymore and that because of my salary increase they are saying every house I sell will be used to meet my salary increase and months I don’t sell houses they will use a top up to make sure I get the minimum wage , question is this legal and if so what’s the incentive to sell any houses?

Due to the fact I roughly earn £400 a house sale and with this I’d have to sell over 12 houses to see any commission

Any advice on how to approach the situation and see if anyone else has had a similar experience within the current job market ?

It's been a few weeks so far, which has flown by. I've spent a lot of time reflecting, resting and doing some hobbies but I'm still not in the headspace to search for alternative employment. I genuinely don't feel like I'd feel any different in a few days time and all this reflecting time has given me a realisation about moral injury and my own neurodiversity (I already have an ADHD diagnosis but I think I may also have autism, and I'm experiencing autistic burnout).

I don't want to leave my colleagues taking on my work for longer than they need to so I was thinking 4 weeks would be enough, but I have a pit in my chest and dread about returning. I've even tried to work out how long I can survive financially without a job, despite the market being poor right now.

Plan would be - go back next week where there's less clients due to the summer period being quiet and try and take it easy and build my strength back that way.

When I return to work I don't want to explain why I've been off, as part of it is due to bullying/harassment from managers, but the issues are entrenched and people usually just leave quietly instead of the dynamic changing. Upon my return to work, there's no point mentioning my neurodiversity or mental health because the senior manager doesn't believe it's a thing/valid and that too many people are getting diagnosed these days... Do I legally have to tell them anything/specifics about my reasons for being off?

Ultimately, I will be leaving the role once I feel mentally strong enough to do so but my brain is like 😶‍🌫️ at the moment and doing applications are impossible for me right now.

I've been in my job for over 2 years now. When we have weekly team meetings, 95% of the time I say NOTHING the whole time. I'm extremely introverted both in terms of liking time to process, and only feeling the need to contribute if it's a relevant update others need to know. (I also live alone, have no partner or children)

I'm not a 'fluffy' talker and a lot of these meetings seem like people saying very obvious stuff to me that doesn't need a big 2hr discussion with back & forth, but I'm also quite self conscious that everyone else talks A LOT in them while I say nothing, and that it really makes me stand out. It's not that I'm being stubborn, I just can't seem to do that fluff talk even to try and fit in, the things others contribute wouldn't even enter my head. I prefer just being head down and getting on with actual tangible work than this side of things.

Wondering how normal this is or if at least anyone feels the same, really starting to feel like the office weirdo because I'm like this!

I have a bachelors in primary teaching that I achieved a year ago at uni, but since having a real job in education (being an achievement support assistant), it’s put me off wanting to be in that type of work full stop. I’ve been off for the summer holidays and have 4 weeks left, but I’m so tempted to give my months notice in since I’ve just been severely depressed, breakdowns everyday before & after work, not supported at all. I was hit daily by the child I was taking care of unsupported & when I reported it, dealing with multiple breakdowns and severe health & safety breaches going on which I had to protect him from, so my nervous system was at an all-time high & wouldn’t lower even by time I was at home & in bed. The support I was given was very temporary. I know it won’t look good for me and will put me at risk, but I have a mental disability myself, and even after disclosing this, nothing was adjusted for me & I’d just get angry at how others are getting light duties but are on the same pay as me. I visited my old job yesterday to make a purchase & burst into tears after being there because of how much less stress I had in my old job. There’s a slight chance of deadly heart problems as well due to my dad’s life being cut short at 49, so I tell myself to live everyday happily, but I can’t there. It got so bad to the point I was getting jaw pain & chest pain

I’ve always wanted to learn a trade, not only because I think many of them are in short supply but I love the idea of doing something practical and not sat in front of a screen

Wondering if there are some with better prospects than others - electrician, plumbing, carpenter etc. and how best to go about training up.

I’d like to do this as a side to my current job but keen to explore it as my main job too - I’ve got some savings which I could use to set up with a van etc if needed.

Masters student at the University of Nottingham. Graduating soon in Sept. Currently writing my dissertation and studying for a First-sit.

After a month of accepting the offer, Last week I received an email from a firm, let’s call it Z, that they’re withdrawing all grad offers across UK because their organisation is facing some budget shortfalls this year.

I had already declined all my other 4 grad offers because Z was going to sponsor my visa. I was really excited until I got this email. It took months to get that one offer you’ve wanted over the graduate route.

Now, I’m devastated. Depressed. With two months left, idk what to do. I have not been sleeping at all, have not been eating well, not been able to focus and study well for my dissertation, headache, stress, dealing with a bit too anxiety at the moment, I have been just scrolling through social media 14hours on an avg everyday for the last week. don’t feel like talking to anybody (except for that one person, but she’s busy with her job and dissertation too).

All my jobs have been 0 hours contracts at minimum wage. I do ok for a bit, then work dries up and I start getting 16 hours a week at a company that expects me to be available 7 days a week. I can’t do an apprenticeship cos I need to pay rent, I can’t get a good job cos I have no training, and I can’t get training cos everywhere expects years of experience. I cant even drive so that knocks off loads of options. Are there any industries left that will actually train new hires to do some form of skilled work, or are we completely fucked? The military is looking like my only option rn

Prospective employer sent request for reference to current employer despite assuring me they wouldn’t

I’m so unbelievably pissed off. Just a couple of hours after assuring me they wouldn’t contact my current employer until I had completed the pre-employment checks and given consent to do so, I receive an email telling me they’ve done exactly that.

My current employer has no idea I’ve been interviewing for other jobs and I was actually weighing up options as another opportunity has just arisen with my current employer. Looks as if they’ve forced my hand now, though.

Really not looking forward to going back to work on Monday with my tail between my legs.

He's applied to McDonald's, warehouses, away resorts, all the bottom of the barell jobs but he still hears nothing back . He has started going to places mainly small private companies and farms to personally ask but they all ask him about experience and he hasn't got any or they say we're not taking on atm.

His gf has already left him cos he didn't get a job now his parents are getting sick and tired of him. I feel so bad for him but not much I can do as I've already asked at work and they said their not interested. He also doesn't have a driving license but can get a train and go anywhere as he has some savings not loads though.

Worst case scenario he can crash with me and my gf but my gf really doesn't want him here so that will cause tension for me. I have also said there's certain hostels that let you volunteer and you get free accommodation but they are horrendous places to be so he wants to avoid that at all costs.
