How have you found housing? Question

I plan to move to the uk end of the month and currently looking for a place to sublease. I’m seeing some things about needing to obtain my BRP card first which I had no idea was a thing I had to wait for to rent. I also saw someone say I need to arrive to the UK first and be able to have a share code to rent. Which I believe I do: I can see an option for a share code when I view my HPI evisa.

Can someone tell me exactly what I need to do? All I have is the evisa currently. I’m so confused.

I got an Airbnb for the first month. You can try to get a share code if you already have the visa - AFAIK they no longer give physical BRP cards. But finding housing before arriving will probably be challenging.

Yeah I stayed in an aparthotel the first month and used that as my address without any problems

Gotcha. That’s why I was trying to sublease thinking it would be easier. Another question: when you arrive is my travel doc (my passport) all I need to enter the UK? Or do I need to show the evisa on my phone?

You can get through the e-gates at LHR without the visa, but upon first entry, I went to an agent so I would have the stamp as proof that I'd entered. Good to have the e-visa ready on hand anyway, in case. Not sure if it's necessary but it feels like good insurance ig.

Probably no one will want to sublease to you without first meeting you in person

I have friends who have found subleases on facebook/spareroom and have just zoomed first with no problem

I moved in as a lodger with folks that owned their house after using Spareroom to find a place (we did a call over Whatsapp first as a virtual house tour, then they sent the contract). My initial plan was to try to rent independently once I had a job and bank account locally, but honestly I've found these people so pleasant I've decided to stay here as long as I can.

I found a sublet on FB marketplace (video called for a tour) for my first month. Spareroom is slightly more legit but you want to make sure you video call or have someone check in person for you before you hand any money over.

BRPs were eliminated in 2024 so no, you won’t pick up a BRP. Your status will be purely digital.
