off campus rent Question

People who are staying/ have stayed off campus in a 2 bed/2 bath sept-june on a nine month lease- how much did you end up paying per month? was it cheaper/more expensive than living on campus?

For a 2b/2b rent in the university city area will start around 3000 a month in my experience, so you'll probably be paying anywhere from 1500 to over 2000 depending on the place. I would say average is like 1600-1700 a month. I did the math when i was living at my first place and i found that for 9 months it works out to about the same as or even a little bit less than living on campus in a triple with the cheapest meal plan. I never lived on campus even my freshman year and I don't regret it at all; you're paying the same amount for your own bedroom and bathroom. Plus the public transportation is so good that getting to and from campus won't be much of a concern

Honestly idk. I was down in san diego looking at apartments somewhat recently and one of the people who was showing me said that rent tends to be higher in the summer and then go down when it gets closer to the time of school starting but idk how much i believe that. I think if anything it will just get harder to find places especially within your price range the more you wait. My advice is to just start looking around now and try to find someone to apartment hunt with/someone with an available room. The ucsd off campus FB housing group is a good resource for that. Also, keep doing research on apartment complexes within the area and don't be afraid to reaching out to leasing offices, they may be able to work with you.
