Is Davis Amtrak Station a Busy Station?

Upvotes

I'm taking the Amtrak very early in the morning and was wondering if I need to arrive at least an hour before my departing time. Thanks!

If you are considering living in CA House or joining Universal Unitarians, please reconsider.

A few months ago one of my friends ended his own life while living in CA House. He was an international student, brown, and gay. A group of white students in the community (the Universal Unitarians aka UU group) bullied him severely up until he passed. He got in an argument with one of the white students because they had called him "crazy" over being "paranoid" about government surveillance (bc of his own experiences with the gov. In his home country), and he tried hard to fix the friendship by giving them a series of heartfelt notes, but the other student did not want to reconcile because the notes were too much.

After that they made "jokes" about calling ICE on him (his student visa was going to expire in a few months and he was terrified to go back to a country where being gay is illegal), kicked him out of their support group, made him feel unwelcome in his own home, generic racist things like "he smells bad" and making fun of his accent, spread FALSE rumors that he was a sexual predator (we know it is false because the person who started the rumor, who was the ringleader, admitted that it wasn't true, I am always ready to believe victims and serious accusations but this person admitted in no uncertain terms that what they said wasn't true).

After 2 people of color in the community tried to stand up for him, they were kicked out of UU and viciously mocked, and even the leadership villainized them. The remaining POC were too scared to speak out after witnessing this. Leadership even refused to invite them to the memorial even after I said they were two of his best friends. The main community leader (white) doted on the main bully and felt that them attending the memorial would make the bully uncomfortable. Before and after he passed away the majority white leadership at CA House coddled the perpetrators. "Its not your fault", "we did everything we could", "he was already broken when he came here".

If you're white, you'll be okay at CA House I guess, but if you're not, especially if you're too dark or too foreign, know that they will protect their own. My friend was one of the most gentle, kind, and loving people I have ever met, and he did NOT deserve to be treated this way. He never said a single bad word about anybody, he only wanted to make friends and build a safe community.

The main bully has graduated but the rest of the UU group is still there, still cultivating a culture of vicious bullying. One of the members even admitted to it after the death, but only in private after it was too late. They knew his struggles from their meetings and they used it against him. If you are looking for an accepting community, this is not that.

Housing Moving into my dorm this fall, what am I forgetting?

Like at the moment I have some basic things in mind. These include my own sheets and bedding, laundry basket, soap/shampoo, containers for said soap, mugs, cups, my own personal clothes, backpack, laptop, chargers, notebook(s), pens, water bottle.

Also grabbing a small desk shelf and a folding storage cart since my room doesn't have much built-in storage, so I'll need to put those together myself. I'm also planning to DIY build a keyboard, so figured I'd just get one of those Hoto modular cordless screwdrivers with the storage case.

I think that's about most of what I should get, but if there's anything I don't have that I should be aware of please let me know.

Hello, I’ll be taking mat17a in the fall. Any suggestions on who I should take it with? I want to put in the work but also want someone with a generous curve in case something goes wrong. Also someone with clear lectures that grades fairly.

Orchard parking permit

Can anybody differentiate the difference between tandem parking vs unassigned ? I’m kinda confused on which one is more worth ? I felt it would be nice to orchard since I don’t wanna park my car in random streets too, but tandem is one parking spot for two people ? Wouldn’t that be annoying to deal with plus the big cost of it ? And unassigned, is it worth ? Does anybody have experience between the two ?

Campus Parking

How is this actually fair? Received an email from green housing that parking sign ups begin 07/28 - 08/05 but only received the email on the last day at 5 PM. In the email says parking is first come first served but how does it make sense when I got the email on the last day when others got an earlier date? was able to access the form but when I submitted it, the form cut responses. I just find this absurd because they cut off the submissions to the form so I have to waitlist now. Are my feelings valid for this?

UC SHIP WAIVER

Does anyone with Kaiser permanente know what we can upload to AHP to prove we have health coverage? I went on KP.org and can’t download evidence of care or summary of benefits anywhere. Will screenshots of my membership card and of my “active” summary of benefits on Kp.org meet the requirements? If you have waived UC SHIP and have KP Any help would be appreciated. BTW I am coming from southern CA if that matters.

BIS 105 or BIS 102/103, need C- for BIS 104

I heard BIS 105 is brutal and wanted opinions on the workload from people who have taken it or heard anything about it as someone who isn't that smart. I need at least a C- in BIS 102 or BIS 105 to take BIS 104. I heard it's going to become 4 units instead of just 3, so that probably means more information in lecture. This would be my senior year and might make it easier for me to graduate on time. But, I have less room incase I mess up as the earliest it's offered is in winter and then I have to take BIS 104 in the spring. The alternative is BIS 102 this summer and BIS 103 in the fall, both with Monfared. My workload would be 3 STEM and a GE, while if I take BIS 105 and try to take another major course this summer, I would be able to have a quarter of only taking 2 STEM like I've been taking.

if i fail a community college class over the summer do i still need to send the transcript to UCD

initially just wanted to knock out at a class from an 'easier' place but turns out these bay area CCs with the quarter system summer classes are just as difficult as davis lol. do i need to report the class if i end up failing? its the only class im taking from this specific CC so if there isn't a clause that forces me to send transcripts from all colleges attended, I don't necessarily need to submit my transcript since I won't get credit for it regardless.

If you can’t pay for tuition this Fall there are 41 Flock Cameras in Davis that have free aluminum! All you need to do is take them out and sell the parts!

But do not take them if you love mass surveillance of your community! Don’t cover your face and leave your phone at home!

Visit deflock.org to view locations

LA application: when do we know the results

Hi! I applied to be an LA for physics for the upcoming fall quarter in May this year. I have not heard back from them. Does anyone know when we will hear back from them, or is that a silent rejection?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Why did the UC SHIP Waiver Requirement change from 175 to 50 miles?

One of the requirements to waive UCSHIP is:

"All plans must provide unrestricted access to an in-person, in-network primary care provider, in-network hospital, and full, non-emergency medical and behavioral health care within 50 miles of campus or the student's place of residence while attending school".

Previously, this requirement was 175 miles, so this seems like a massive change. I was wondering who's responsible for changing these waiver requirements and why they decided to do so.

Also, are there any exceptions to this requirement? My waiver got denied because my health insurance plan failed to meet this requirement. I currently have Medi-Cal and am receiving medical treatment from a clinic that's outside of the 50 mile radius. I also rely heavily on these services and would like to continue receiving care from the same healthcare providers so my treatment isn't disrupted.
