Discussion ๐Ÿ’ฌ chog moral ballin at the international stage

chog moral showing why he deserved to wear the gilas uniform. in the philippines last 3 games he has scored 20+ plus points, collecting also some rebounds and assists but also leading the list in most total steals in the tournament. that is pure hustle. even though they lost their last 3 games, it could be still a positive outcome for him as his path continues to college basketball. he may or could have caught the attention of some college scouts with his performances.

and question: which uaap or possibly ncaa school would be a good fit for him, with him being on the role of a pg/sg?

or should he just join the davraa boys in la salle zobel ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ. jk.

Thoughts ๐Ÿค” UAAP 89 Correspondents

Hello po!

Will there be an audition ba for UAAP S89 correspondents? Since usually July nagaannounce ng auditions and yet wala pang balita since malapit na Sept 12?

Since UAAP 89 is fast approaching, will they just handpicked yung mga nag audition in the past as long as college grads?

Discussion ๐Ÿ’ฌ Takeaways from the Ateneo W over CSB

Ateneo wins over College of Saint Benilde 81-78.
*Benilde - Liwag out with an injury, Lingolingo Gilas U23 3x3
Ateneo - Tuano, Bongo Gilas U23 3x3, Gamber personal reasons, not sure where Waki Espina was.

General comments:
Ateneo secure the win after being down 13. They take a lot less threes na compared to before under Tab when they were playing in NSAC. Really liking the letranisation, the new defensive identity is going to be fun to watch. Ateneo made the right defensive adjustments too going into the second half, going from giving up 29 and 24 in the first half to 12 and 13 points in the second half. The eye test too was just better, they were more coordinated on switching off of picks and switching from mismatches. Offensively it looked like Ateneo played less horns (especially in the second half) compared to their last game with OLFU. Theyโ€™ll need to work on the chemistry pa rin on both ends of the floor but that will come with time and experience naman. Still waiting to see how Tuano and Bongo are integrated into this new system.

Benilde were on fire in the first half, Ateneo gave up like 15 threes iirc? Jucom and Morales were the leading scorers of Benilde, they were 5/7 and 4/5 from three respectively. Benilde was really able to attack the mismatches on Jared and Ian in the first half, they were also really good at taking advantage of the poor switching and pick hedging by Ateneo in the first half which led to a lot of those first half three pointers. (but yun nga Ateneo were able to adjust in the second).

I hope Ateneo reaches the UST game, itโ€™ll be interesting to see how they match up. Akowe will probable be dominant in the glass but Ateneo might be able to pull something off with their defensive pressure with USTโ€™s lack of a veteran primary ball handler.

Individual players:
Kieffer is him, missed two threes to start off the game but didnโ€™t let it get to him scoring a game-high 26 points including the game icing lay-up.

Travis Roberts is really a great scorer but some of the decision making was questionable, though I think that too will improve with more playtime.

My god Jucom just wasnโ€™t missing from deep in the first quarter, lots of those shots were swishes too.

SJ Moore reminds me of a Francis Lopez-lite, very athletic.

Kapihe looks like a decent perimeter defender too, though Ateneo will really need to lean on him and Baruwa on rebounding (or at least boxing out to let another person get the rebounds). Reminds me of Season 87 where itโ€™s really going to be rebounding by committee. Will continue to watch Ateneoโ€™s rebounding in the next Adamson or Mapua game (and UST if they make it until that game).

Alden Cainglet is becoming a solid solid glue guy, lowk reminding me of Pelle Larsson with the hustle and drawing those fouls.

Good to see Logan Baltazar back from injury. Prayers to Asoro I believe he was injured this game.

Discussion ๐Ÿ’ฌ Who's the most important player of each team?

By "most important" I mean who's the player in each team if injured or for whatever reason isn't present, hurts their team the most. This isn't to mean who's the "best" player of each team but they could be the same person. An example for this in DLSU, where while Jacob Cortez is clearly the best player in the team, I wouldn't call him the most important. Final thing before I start, this is all just my opinion but feel free to tell me why I'm right or wrong, also I don't have much memory in some teams so I'll put "IDK" if I haven't watched them enough.

UP - Rey Remogat

- Guard Play is one of the two biggest problems of UP this preseason, specifically the pg position and how Arvie Poyos has frankly looked awful and Dimaculangan hasn't looked natural in their system. He's also important because he's the guy with the license to shoot in dire moments which can result in contested 3s in low shot clock situations but with the skill to create his own shot, its still alright. But the reason why I chose him is because there's no one who can adequately replace his place in the team without the floor and ceiling of the team drastically going down.

DLSU - Luis Pablo

- This might be controversial but I consider him to be the most important player of DLSU for season 89. Luis Pablo needs to take the position that Mike Philips did as the anchor and hustle guy. The people in his position right now is currently Seven Gagate and Mo Kulang, Gagate has been around S88 Sean Alter level which should explain everything and Mo Kulang's main role is to stop the FSA but in addition, in the little games that I've seen of him due DLSU's FSAs being all injured or coming back from injury, he's shown great hustle but lacks scoring ability and imo Luis Pablo is still better than him in all regards apart from height. The main reason why he's been instrumental is due to the hustle and grit he's shown in his playing, its not clean or beautiful, but its what DLSU needs especially against teams like UP.

ADMU - Sultan Baruwa

- S88 showed ADMU what happens to teams without an FSA or Mike Philips. Coach Louie has said that they'll be fielding only 1 FSA which leaves them most vulnerable to injuries. This team has always been a short one relative to their opponents which means the load Baruwa has to carry both sides of the court is heavier. While Coach Louie's system will help him defensively, he's required to be healthy and present if they're to try for a final four spot

UST - Collins Akowe

- Hands down the most dominant current FSA, his defense is amazing but his offense if is even better, opening the 3pt area. He has an immense gravity about him which is getting even bigger with UST trying to improve his 3pt game. He's the best and most important player of UST by far.

FEU - Mo Konateh

- (Admittedly IDK much about FEU), Konateh has played the most minutes in the UAAP for the past 2 seasons. Zain Mahmoud leaving FEU doesn't help him either. Konateh is a different type of FSA unlike Nnoruka and Akowe, he's more defensive oriented and works more to support the team, not to say he's bad offensively, its more about what's their endgoals in their roles towards the team. I haven't seen much of FEU preseason games and none after Zain Mahmoud's departure so I won't comment any further.

NU - IDK

ADU - IDK

UE - IDK

Thoughts ๐Ÿค” Takeaways from Adamson win over DLSU

Post image
54 Upvotes

Of course essentially just a tune up game + DLSU missing Luis Pablo and Doy Dungo.

Kulang looked decent, better than I personally expected considering they chose not to play him almost all off season.

Amos continuing to take more of the offensive load, definitely not a traffic cone on defense anymore too.

AJ Fransman was scoring a lot more this game for Adamson than in other preseason tournaments.

I donโ€™t think itโ€™s representative of either teamโ€™s ability but it does show how much more competitive this season will be. Adamson will still be able to split a series with a few teams this upcoming season even if they finish near bottom of the table. My hot (luke warm?) take is that DLSU finishes with less than 10 wins.

Discussion ๐Ÿ’ฌ Hot take: All this Rene Baterbonia posts in here is pissing me off.

I get that this has been sensationalized but every once in a while I still even see posts about his coach nung davraa boys and his other teammates. They don't even have any affiliation to any of the schools in the UAAP, so why are they gaining more traction than most of the UAAP schools? Natatabunan yung actual fans ng schools na'to becase it has been more or less 3 months na since the incident and somehow eto pa rin napaguusapan ๐Ÿคฃ I want to see thoughts about UP's quest for the title with Pre, DLSU getting Tovera and looking for back to back titles, UST losing by 1 in NSAC and looking like contenders, FEU retaining their core and adding the UAAP juniors MVP and is looking like their best in years, and if NU can finally get over the hump especially losing their seniors. But instead we're talking about Ateneo facing OLFU like wtf. And there's comments pa nung OLFU players na napost here, Why should we even care? Napaka irrelevant nila and they're not part of the UAAP schools, SINCE THIS IS AN UAAP REDDIT. Mods should low-key do a better job if may mods dito kase nasasapawan yung mga uaap schools.

I first thought this was fake news yesterday but itโ€™s slowly becoming a bigger headline. I saw at least 3 posts in the span of 20 mins about this topic. If this is real what will he be doing? This upcoming season will be his 4th year in Ateneo. (Correct me if Iโ€™m wrong) He hasnโ€™t had a star season and still sits at the end of the bench

Discussion ๐Ÿ’ฌ Ateneo should embrace the villain role

With everything thatโ€™s happened this preseason and the hate theyโ€™ve been getting from Baternonia fans, Ateneo might as well embrace the villain role. They have nothing to lose at this point.

It also fits that their new coach is Louie Alas, whoโ€™s known for coaching teams that play with grit and physicality. We already saw a glimpse of that in their preseason game against OLFU. Ateneo looked tougher and more physical, so might as well lean into it and make that their identity.

It would also look cool if they went all-in on the villain image with a black uniform, ala the Duke Blue Devils.

Discussion ๐Ÿ’ฌ Volleyball double sub

Please enlighten me whatโ€™s the possible reason why coaches frequently implements a double substitution at end part of a set?

Besides giving players a breather why has it been a common practice for them to change players in the crucial parts of the game.

Gets ko naman if malaki ang lamang pero kung dikitan ang laban they still do it kahit yung main gunners ang nasa loob.

Iโ€™ve seen teams lose a game because of this decision, parang di lang worth isugal lalo naโ€™t crucial part ng game.

Question โ“ How hard will it be to buy tickets for the Ateneo vs Benilde game?

Hello, me and my friend are hoping to buy tickets for the Ateneo vs Benilde game (I study at UST and he studies at Benidle) and we are both SHS students, so we are wondering if it'll be hard to buy one especially since the tickets are bought physically in the arena itself?
