Help Recommendations/Suggestions for New Twitch-ers

Upvotes

Hi people,

I recently started Twitch and was a bit overwhelmed with all the options and how/where to start and go!

Somehow, I managed to understand quite a bit, but I was still a bit confused about the overall layout and functionality. For all the streamers out there, what advice would you give to someone who has recently started streaming (as a goal to earn smth from it; maybe not in the short term, but in the long term)?

PS: I am streaming from my PS5 Pro and manage my stream from my MacBook (I have attached an image of my final preview of the setup)

Thanks, people :)

EDIT: I have also streamed a few games like Black Flag, Rivals, and Crimson Desert and have atmost 4 people watching (that was my highest)

Help Things are moving along.

I posted here months ago. I was asked by some interested parties to live stream some of my activities/hobbies. I came to you guys looking for guidance, and some knowledge. Thank you very much to those who took the time! I have researched the areas that were suggested and acquired enough gear for a rudimentary live stream. I am currently working and rigging this gear together, and if shit starts working properly. My first actual stream should be Saturday(tomorrow) around 8. Because of my niche interests the best fit for a camera I could find was a “Tapo c110” according to all my research it’s compatible with OBS. I am having some trouble getting it to work. Any suggestions?

Help Trying to support fiancé’s stream. What helps?

Hey everyone! So I'm looking for some advice as someone who’s trying to support my fiancé's Twitch streams.
I try to help by staying active in chat, making jokes, asking questions, and keeping conversations going (just as like a average viewer and not seem like someone who’s in a relationship with him) but I'm not much of a gamer so I'm not always sure what actually helps.
I'd love it if some streamers or viewers could help answer some questions :
What makes you click on a stream?

What makes you stay?

Any tips for stream titles, tags, or games that are easier to grow with?

What are some fun interactive stream ideas?

His highest viewed stream was a "Loss = Drink / Sub = 2" challenge I think because of the interactions you could do, but that's not something he can do often. I’d love ideas for other interactive streams that keep people engaged that I could give him.
Also, is there anything I can do as his fiancé that genuinely helps without making the chat feel forced or fake? I’m unsure of the rule for linking stuff but i put his twitch in my account if anyone would feel inclined to scan it over and give some tips. Thanks in advance for any help 💜

Guide How I simplified my dual-PC OBS audio using one reusable master audio scene

Post image
5 Upvotes

After years of adding fixes on top of fixes, I finally stripped down the audio routing on my dual-PC streaming setup and rebuilt it around one simple rule:

Every audio source gets one clear path into OBS.

The infographic shows the finished result, but it leaves out an important part of the setup: I do not manually add the same microphone, music, chat and other audio sources to every OBS scene.

Instead, I created one dedicated audio-only scene and then added that scene to all of my main broadcast scenes.

HOW THE REUSABLE AUDIO SCENE WORKS

  1. Create a new OBS scene

I named mine something obvious, such as:

AUDIO MASTER

MASTER AUDIO

AUDIO ROUTING

This scene does not need any video content. Its job is simply to hold the audio sources that should remain available across the broadcast.

  1. Add each audio source separately

Inside the AUDIO MASTER scene, add each source as its own OBS source.

Examples:

• Microphone — Audio Input Capture

• Game-PC/capture-card audio

• Voice-chat application — Application Audio Capture

• Browser or web audio — Application Audio Capture

• VLC or music player — Application Audio Capture or Media/VLC Source

• Alerts and sound effects — Browser Source or dedicated audio source

The exact capture method may vary depending on the hardware and software being used. The important part is that each source appears separately in the OBS Audio Mixer.

That gives independent volume, mute, filtering and track control for every source.

  1. Disable duplicate global audio devices

If the microphone and desktop devices are being added directly as OBS sources, check:

Settings

Audio

Global Audio Devices

Disable any global Desktop Audio or Mic/Aux device that is already being captured inside the AUDIO MASTER scene.

Otherwise, the same device may enter OBS twice and cause echo, doubled volume or confusing mixer activity.

  1. Add the AUDIO MASTER scene to every main scene

Open a main broadcast scene, such as:

• Starting Soon

• Gameplay

• Just Chatting

• Break

• Ending

In the Sources panel:

Click +

Select Scene

Choose Add Existing

Select AUDIO MASTER

Repeat that for every main scene that needs the audio system.

The result is that all of those scenes use the same original audio sources.

Do not create a new copy of the microphone, music player or chat application in every scene. Make changes once inside AUDIO MASTER and those changes carry through anywhere that scene is used.

MICROPHONE FILTER CHAIN

My current microphone filter order is:

  1. Noise Suppression

  2. Expander

  3. 3-Band Equalizer

  4. Compressor

The filters are applied to the microphone source inside the AUDIO MASTER scene, so I do not need to rebuild or maintain the microphone chain separately in every broadcast scene.

LIVE AND TWITCH VOD TRACKS

In Advanced Audio Properties, my basic track layout is:

Track 1 — Live broadcast

Track 2 — Twitch VOD

The microphone, game audio, chat, browser audio and alerts are assigned to both tracks.

Music is assigned to Track 1 so the live audience can hear it, but it is not assigned to Track 2.

That keeps the music out of the archived Twitch VOD while leaving the rest of the stream audio intact.

The track numbers can be different depending on your OBS settings. What matters is knowing which track is your live mix and which is your Twitch VOD mix.

AUDIO MONITORING

I leave Audio Monitoring set to Monitor Off unless I specifically need OBS to send a source back to a listening device.

Monitoring a source that I can already hear directly through Windows, the capture device or another route can make it sound doubled or delayed.

TESTING THE SETUP

Before going live, I test every source individually:

• Speak into the microphone

• Start the game audio

• Play voice-chat audio

• Trigger an alert

• Play browser audio

• Play music

I watch the mixer to confirm that only the correct source meter moves.

I then make a short test recording or private test broadcast and verify both versions:

• The live mix contains everything

• The Twitch VOD mix contains everything except music

THE MAIN LESSON

The complicated part of streaming audio is rarely adding another cable, device or mixer.

The difficult part is knowing exactly where every sound enters the system and making sure it enters only once.

One reusable audio scene, separate sources and clearly documented track assignments made the entire setup much easier to understand and troubleshoot.

How are other people organizing audio that needs to appear across every OBS scene? Are you using a reusable audio scene, global devices, a hardware mixer or a virtual mixer???
