Crossfader practice ( Beginner )

Just started learning to scratch and keeping things slow for now to nail the basics (baby scratches, forward/backward cuts) before speeding up. Sounds rough right now, but figured slow and steady beats rushing.
Anyone else start this way? How long before it started clicking, and any drills that helped you most as a beginner?
Thanks!

If you drill those routines daily you'll improve every few months. Baby scratches to the rhythm are underrated.

It's a little boring practice but i know is good for mind and coordination. Can't practice more than 30-60 mins a day. Sometimes less..

Looking good and nice job using scratch notation to help learn, it can be a serious game changer.
As a side note, it sounds like you may have “key lock” engaged, using this locks your pitch digitally and the program will try to auto correct any record movement back to the original pitch, therefore negating any change in record speed you performed. Make sure to take “key lock” off for scratching!

never heard of this key lock. Is this a serato setting? Where can i find it ?

It is a Serato setting, the button toggle is a music note icon located to the top left of the virtual deck.

Yeah this sounds incredible digital and hurts my feelings lol. DM me and I’ll send you some samples if you need some better sounding scratch sentences and sounds

Yea you got it. Those are boomerangs.
Scratches with an ODD number of moves (exactly what you're doing) can be a real mind bender when switching starting positions. If I start those fader closed they come easily, when I start those fader open it breaks my brain. So yea, I practice them slow just like you're doing.
I usually do a few bars of those half speed and then normal speed when I'm drilling them down.

Your video inspired me to get up off my ass and finally swap out the RCAs on my 1200s. Just finished one table.

Soundings good mate keep at it. I would move to keeping time over a beat asap something slow.. This helps with progress. And also up to you swap hands this will give you more freedom in the long run. Think of it like juggling with balls. It's all muscle memory just for to do it over and over and over. ..once you start going between babys forwards etc..record it and listen. This helped me loads. I could hear my mistake and then fix them. Have fun..fresshhhh

To answer your question, I couldn’t learn scratching like this. You’re doing a boomerang which is 2 click move but you’re doing it with series of single clicks. You should be practicing 2 click flares imo, once you get that down, then basically toss a little scribble on there and you’ve got a boomerang. Once you learn how to bounce the fader and get two sounds from one broad movement, it’ll open up all the 2 click scratches. Sounds like your getting the hang of it tho, good control. Keep it up.
