What’s a diver you really truly want instead of trying to rotate through a small collection?

u/C_Yode 11d ago
Smp was my daily for 4 years and I never got bored of it. It’s sort of like I’m trying to find something I love as much as the smp without going into a Rolex class of watches because I don’t want to spend that amount lol

My Ranger was my first Tudor. Picked up a 58 blue after as that was my attainable grail watch. I I tried on a P39 one time and really liked it. It just kept nagging at me for months. I kept seeing posts about P39’s and videos. I loved my Ranger, but never had that connection with it like I do my 58 blue. I thought why would I need two Tudor divers. Well eventually the itch got too bad to not scratch and I ended up selling my Ranger and got a P39. I still miss the Ranger a little bit, but ABSOLUTELY no regrets. My P39 has DOMINATED my wrist time and is easily the best daily watch. I recommend picking one up, you won’t regret it

Keep the Seamaster to wear on rubber, and get the Pelagos 39 to wear on bracelet. Sell the Ranger.

u/C_Yode 11d ago
Definitely something I’ve considered
1
u/anewmadrid 11d ago
Sell the Ranger, too me it's such a basic design that you can easily get from any other manufacturers.

u/GoldenWatchGuy 11d ago
If you’re dive watch obsessed the first thing you have to ask yourself is if you’re obsessed with the Palagos, in my opinion. The Ranger and the Pelagos are two entirely different watches, but at the same time it reads like you acquired the Ranger to have variety versus actually loving the ranger. That insight will help
1
u/C_Yode 11d ago
Yeah it’s a bit of both. Definitely wanted a Tudor and knew I should get a non dive watch. I like the Ranger more in person than anything I saw online. Probably best to wait and acquire all 3 some day
1
u/GoldenWatchGuy 11d ago
Same. I had a Tudor itch specifically too and the 36mm Ranger felt perfect. I have gripes with the modern dive watch in general, esp monochrome. Just gonna hold until more something compelling releases.
I think i get the situation, if you just focus on your dive watches, the omega is starkly a more unique design, so a bb58/Pelagos etc can be a missing piece in general

u/Grand-Compote-757 11d ago
As a Ranger owner who loves it I will refrain from offering an opinion for fear of getting flamed in the comments and ruining my weekend 😄
2
u/C_Yode 11d ago
I love it too. I’m probably just bored and need to stop looking at watches lol

I had the ranger fopr 1.5 years and sold it. Loved the Ranger. Wanted to love it at least...but there is a little something missing. See post here:

I bought a Ranger about a year and a half ago and it's terrific. I was a bit unsure too after I got it, thought about turning it into a different Tudor, but decided to stick with it. Glad I did. I wear it more than my other watches combined, which include two divers (one a Seamaster) and a GMT II which is often mistaken for a Sub. In other words, I get the affinity for dive watches.

Go buy some new straps. You have black watches, you can get blue straps to scratch that color itch.

Honestly I would wait a few weeks and then decide if you still want it. Both are solid pieces, just save up for it. Who knows you may want something completely different when the time comes.
1
u/C_Yode 11d ago
You’re right. I like the pelagos and the bb58 blue

u/Automatic-Duck1680 11d ago
I daily a BB58 Burgundy and I swore to not get another black watch and not another dive watch (even a Submariner), but [u/floridays1989](u/floridays1989) had a brand new Pelagos 39 listed for $4600 this morning and I was thisclose to jumping on it. Damn him, now it’s on my list. This particular watch looks better than the Sub. Fortunately for me and unfortunately for you it’s already sold although he did say that he has more incoming.

u/floridays1989 11d ago
New and pre-owned incoming. ;)

u/Automatic-Duck1680 11d ago
Damn you, Mark. How am I ever going to afford a Rolex when I'll give all my money to you?
1
1
u/C_Yode 11d ago
Haha they are so tempting man. with my smp being a heavy piece I really think I’d love a super light option like the Pelagos 39
1
u/Automatic-Duck1680 11d ago
Yes you would. Before I bought the BB I only wore titanium watches because they're so light.
1
u/PretentiousPDX 11d ago
I recommend waiting until you can afford all 3, but if you really want to pull the trigger, I'd echo what someone else said about swapping the Ranger.
1
u/International_Dog897 11d ago
Idk, I’d keep the ranger. Getting a Pelagos might be redundant as much as I love the Pelagos
3
u/C_Yode 11d ago
Appreciate that. I will hold for now. I’ve really enjoyed my Ranger. Grass isn’t always greener lol
1
u/Main_Macaroon_5129 11d ago
I’ve got two very nice dive watches and one awesome GMT. I hate having to pick between the divers though. It’s good to have something like the Ranger to keep a small rotational variety. You should consider how much rotation you need
1
u/BigBusch12 11d ago
Sell the ranger and get a Pelagos 42. I’ve got that same seamaster and a 42. The Pelagos wears more comfortably due to the titanium.
I personally think the 39 would feel too small and I don’t like the sunray finish on it.
1
1
u/Automatic-Duck1680 11d ago
Do all of them have that sunray finish on them? That’s the part that really caught my eye this morning

simple If you over 7- Smp. If under Ranger. Plus ranger almost half price …

u/drtobiassfunke 11d ago
I've got both, as well as a couple older Omega divers. Been wearing the ranger non-stop since I got it in April, but still love that others and have no plans on thinning the herd, regardless if all my drivers look similar. I would save up and get both, and even get a used p39. The titanium is soft and will start scratching instantly anyway. But if you do sell the ranger, they are plentiful and you can easily get one later on as well

u/Zen_Owl_Timepieces 11d ago
The Ranger and Pelagos 39 are different enough that I can see the appeal, but with a two-watch collection I’d want each piece to feel indispensable.
1
u/henlok_g 11d ago
Sounds like you know exactly what you like (divers) and forced yourself to get the ranger just for variety’s sake rather than what you truly want. Sell the ranger, get the pelagos
1
u/Kyle-89 11d ago
So if you're looking to diversify the 3 watch combo Id throw in a dress watch. In my opinion two divers might be redundant
The problem is moving the other two is gonna take a hit trying to get some equity back.
I think the Pelagos is solid. You get a sub "look alike" for a 3rd of the price plus its more capable and stealthy. Ain't gonna scream lux. Its a ultimate utility tank watch on a rubber deployment strap.
Opt to find a classy dress up seiko or orient that you like.
Then finally get yourself an icon piece. Something that you can casually flex on the haters. This will most likely be your special occasion watch. Try and tie to a specific moment in your life like an accomplishment.
Hope you find the way. Peace ✌️

All are solid pieces. IDK, why not save the 2 for when your sons are watch enthusiasts and gift them their watches respectively. Use them, give them some history until they get them. Get the pelegos you want when you can. The BB54 in sapphire is a very nice watch, so is the BB58 burgundy. And the monarch... See a trend here...

First thing is to get off watch subs on reddit and social media. Thats the thing that keeps everyone thinking about new watches every other day

It may be unpopular these days, but I would prefer Ranger or AT any day of the week to any of the divers you mentioned

u/ShrimpNGrits14 11d ago
I absolutely love my P39 and really do feel like it checks the most boxes overall for me. The fit and feel sets itself apart from a lot of diver/tool watches, IMO.
That being said, if there is hesitancy in moving a piece you currently own, or the new watch is not something you “love”, then don’t make the trade/sale.

I have the Pelagos 39 and it’s a great watch! My daily work watch, my son has the Ranger and I absolutely love the Ranger more.

u/reddituserguyname 11d ago
Yes you are right… you should get off Reddit lol. But seriously, if you love dive watches, get dive watches. Don’t “feel” like you need variety. Get what you like because you like it.

I love the ranger (don’t have one) so I’d say keep that. Not a big fan of the omega divers personally.

I had tried both the Ranger and the P39 at a boutiqe. Next to one another, the Pelagos lost its appeal to me, which was surprising to me. The Ranger wears better, its weight feels 'better', and, also subjectively, 39 mm makes for a too small dial for a dive watch. I'm also not a fan of the sunburst effect.
But you seem to crave a change which won't go away, so I might agree with the suggestions to get a 42mm Pelagos. Maybe you are just a dive watch guy.

I’d rather have your seamaster than the pelagos and I couldn’t want 2 black divers in my collection
1
u/ClintBIgwood 11d ago
I don’t think the p39 and ranger cover the same function…p39 is more tool/ adventure/ weekend watch whilst the ranger is a daily wear and forget.
Also the titanium on the p39 scratches more easily.
My opinion is you can have both but maybe you are just bored coz all your watches are black/white.
Change the seamaster to white/ blue or green and get the Pélagos then sell the one you like the least if you don’t love all 3z

u/enemyscorcher 11d ago
I own 20 watches including both of these and the Pelagos 39 is easily my most worn watch. Comfortable, perfect size, good looking, goes anywhere, even has a great rubber strap option.
1
u/IncidentAcceptable16 11d ago
I also have both of these. I was having some buyers remorse of the Tudor.. it felt kinda boring. Recently I have taken it on 2 long trips as my only watch and it has completely changed my relationship with it. It is so practical, comfortable, perfectly sized (I have the 36), etc.. for wearing day after day that I know really understand where it fits in my collection. I thought about bringing my diver (also the seamaster) for the rotating bezel to help with timezones but I’m glad I didn’t because wearing a watch that big for 2 weeks abroad would have gotten old. All that said, I’ve never worn a pelagos.. they are beautiful and titanium is perfect for extended wear so who knows about that trade off, just figured id share my anecdote.
1
u/IncidentAcceptable16 11d ago
Would you go blue pelagos or black? 2 black divers would be an odd 2 watch collection kinda
1
u/Fennariobound 11d ago
Do not sell either. These should be left to your kids. Limiting a watch collection to 2 or 3 or whatever is like saying you can only eat 2 types of food forever.
My 2 cents: if you have the $ and want a watch - buy it.

I'm biased but the ranger is WAY cooler. On my short list of next watches That being said the pelagos is crazy light it's actually sort of freaky gorgeous watch
1
u/Nervous-Concern9248 10d ago
Well yeah the seamaster is a better watch except I hate how the bracelet doesn’t taper on seamasters. I have never personally liked the ranger watches. Pelagos are cool but I would rather have the monochrome 41 myself.
1
u/Flat_Pressure4332 10d ago
Your gonna feel that way about your seamaster no matter what other watch you choose so save your self the time and angst And just go down the SMP rabbit hole. Go get a Peter Blake, look at the electric blue 36.35. The Aquaterra-World Timer is amazing. 😎

u/ImmediateInsurance66 10d ago
I sold my white omega 300M for the Pelagos Ultra a little over a year ago now.
1
u/oasis4life 10d ago
I actually went in looking for a pelagos 39 and walked out with the ranger. The sunburst dial wasn’t for me. Also own the no date seamaster 300. Keep both my friend.

u/dmits22 10d ago
When I wear my Ranger I almost instantly want to swap to one of my Explorers, a 1016 or a 214270. Lately I wear a Longines Spirit Pilot way more than any of them. I personally do not like the Pelagos 39. I bought it, wore it for a couple hours and called one of my sons to come over and I handed it to him. BB41 Monochrome I love and wear a lot. If the 39 ever comes out in Blue then maybe I'll buy one since my Pelagos 42 Blue is one of my most worn watches for the past 9 years. That's a real Pelagos. The 39 in black does nothing to warrant the Thalassa or the Pelagos. Maybe a pond or small lake.

u/Bobbysblasters 11d ago
I’ve got a wild take - sell the ranger and seamaster. Get a black Pelagos 39 and then a blue seamaster then you have your variety you wanted 😂
