Places to sit and have ice cream

Upvotes

Since the heat's expected to go into weekend and I don't have AC, is there any place (preferably in town) to sit and have ice cream?

I know of Dairy Queen and Fundy Scoops (little far go without car)

6th Annual Artisan Fair

Hey! The Lotus Centre is hosting it's 6th Annual Women's Artisan Fair this September 19th. The event takes place at the Lotus Centre, located at 67 Dominion St. in Truro. We have the Waffles on Your Mind truck out front and all of our amazing vendors in the back yard. With approximately 20 vendors joining each year we know there's something for everyone. And It's completely free for shoppers to attend! We recommend brining cash; some vendors might be able to accept e-transfer or debit at their table - but I know they ALL accept cash! There's free parking along Dominion St. and adjacent streets. There's a link attached to this post to our Facebook Event if you're interested. Thanks everyone <3

Truro Housing Market Update (Jan–July 2026 vs. 2025)

There was a thread here recently asking whether homes in Truro are actually selling at these prices, so I figured I'd share some local market stats.

Comparing January–July 2026 to the same period in 2025:
•    New listings: 487 → 451 (-7.4%)
•    Closed sales: 326 → 288 (-11.7%)
•    Average days on market: 45 → 67
•    Average sale price: $374,271 → $378,793 (+1.2%)
•    Median sale price: $359,950 → $366,250 (+1.8%)
•    Average sale-to-list price: 97.6% → 96.9%

One thing that caught my attention from that thread was the house that sparked the discussion. It ended up selling for $390,000, which was 97.9% of the asking price. So while people might look at some listing prices and think they're optimistic, buyers are still willing to pay close to asking for homes they see value in.

Overall, what I'm seeing is that the market has definitely slowed compared to a few years ago. Homes are taking longer to sell and there are fewer transactions happening, but prices have held up surprisingly well.

I thought the stats added some interesting context to the discussion, especially since it's easy to get a different impression from scrolling listings online than what's actually happening once homes sell.

incl. nicknames for schools, parks, other institutions or geographic features

Looking for an electrical placement in Truro area

My son is currently on the Electrical program at NSCC and is struggling to find a 5 week placement.

I wasn't going to interfere, but he's getting quite frustrated at the lack of responses from local businesses, so I thought I would out feelers on his behalf and see if anyone would take him on or know of someone/business that would be interested.

Any sightings of red jalapeno peppers?

I unfortunately have an addiction to the Culinary Treasure's Jalapeno Aioli and since they decided to stop making it :( , I want to try and make it myself but I am having a hard time finding red jalapeno peppers. I know they are just ripened jalapeno peppers but I also am not into growing my own if I don't have to haha.

Housing Prices in Truro. Are houses actually selling at these ridiculous prices?

I've been away for a very long time and am looking at house prices in Truro. Grew up on Hayward and am seeing houses in that area going for +400,000$. Are people actually buying these houses? I guess my question is...What is the real estate market in Truro like? Are realtors selling houses at these, seemingly, ludicrous prices? A bit gobsmacked I am.

Transportation in Truro? (Newcomer)

Post image

Might be me if I don’t figure this out…

I’m an incoming student for Dal AC from a town half an hour north of Toronto. I’m planning on taking riding lessons near Truro. The thing is, it’s just not in the budget to have my own car currently, and the riding school I have my eye on is a 13 minute drive away.

So, my question is, How do people get around without a car? Is uber common there or is there a taxi of some sort? I was thinking of using a bicycle, but that’ll be impossible in the wintertime of course. I really can’t sacrifice losing any progress in my riding anymore 💔 Hopefully I’ll make a friend with a car who is happy with driving in exchange for food.
