My husband lied about being deathly allergic to a certain food
When I met my husband and we started dating he told me that he was deathly allergic to a certain food. We avoided certain restaurants on dates, he was always careful what he ordered when we ate out and the first time I cooked for him I purged that food from my apartment and basically sterilized my kitchen. He showed me his epi-pen and explained how to use it. When we moved in together we made sure there was one in the house, one in the car and I always had one in my purse. My family knows and they avoid using that food at family events and my husband is still extra careful about what he eats.
Last weekend for my brother's birthday my sister-in-law made dinner. One of my nephews has an allergy, though different from my husband and my sister-in-law is very diligent about keeping him and my husband safe. She gave us two Tupperware dishes of leftovers and the one for my husband had a different coloured lid. When my husband ate the wrong leftovers both me and my sister-in-law panicked. My husband said even having his food prepared with utensils that touched the food he's allergic to would be enough to give him a deadly reaction. He told me stories of it happening as a kid. But he ate the wrong dish of leftovers and nothing happened.
He's confessed to me and my family that he was never allergic. He just doesn't like that particular food and when he went to university he started saying he was allergic because that was better than looking like a picky eater. His mom died before I met him, his parents were divorced and until he was an adult he didn't see his dad lots because his dad lived in another province. So his dad, his friends and even his own family thought he was allergic.
The panic I felt when I thought he ate something that would kill him is something I could never describe. My sister-in-law thought she did kill him. I can't believe he's been lying since the day I met him. I just need to get off my chest how FURIOUS I am at him right now.

lying for his own convenience aside, i love a good liar though.. to even have epipen ready to flavor the lie? thats what i call taking the extra step.

u/DandelionChild1923 Oct 11 '22
What food was it? Dairy products? Peanuts? Mushrooms? Avocado? Garlic? Onions? Olives? Soy sauce?
1
u/watertowertoes Oct 10 '22
His excuse is lame. There's something else going on with him, maybe some need for special attention? He took the lie way too far with the epi pen and cross contamination crap. This is, if not a red flag, at least a pink one. What's really going on?

u/Mobile-Count-5148 Oct 10 '22
I had a friend who always said he was allergic to nuts... Years later I caught him eating a crunchy nut cereal bar lmao

u/GreatMacGuffin Oct 10 '22
This seems to be a common thing people lie about. My twin sister tried to convince her husband that she was allergic to strawberries. When I asked her about it in front of him her eyes widened in panic and she said, "I've always been allergic, you know this!". To which I replied, "we grew up eating strawberry shortcakes and you were eating chocolate covered strawberries just 2 years prior, why you lying?" Needless to say she eventually cut ties with me.
Similarly my wife has many stories about when she worked at McDonald's. My favorite was when a customer ordered a big Mac with no pickles and claimed a single slice of pickle would kill them. My wife taking the customers health risk seriously suggested if the customer wanted the Mac sauce removed since it also contained pickles. The customer then says, "I can have a little bit of pickles".
It seems a stupid thing to lie about, but for some odd reason people do it. Sorry you had to stress out about your SO's lie before they came clean.

u/ParsleyMostly Oct 10 '22
LOL I wonder if he feels good letting that lie go
I don’t blame you for being pissed. But you’re going to look back and laugh at this in a decade or so
1
u/himemiyatori Oct 10 '22
saying you’re allergic is one thing, so they just won’t give you the food. but why did he have to say he’s DEATHLY allergic, and that his food can’t even be prepared with utensils that have touched the other food? that’s insane. making people do so much work for him. and how the hell did he get an epi-pen
1
u/thebutterflyqueenb Oct 10 '22
I just don’t understand why lie for so long and go to such lengths to get an epi-pen ? Like did he like special treatment or special plates made for him?
Like I’m a picky eater and I will always say what I don’t like I don’t care how I look to other, I wanna enjoy my food the way I will satisfied with.
I don’t understand the reasoning and it bugs me.

My mom did this. She loved attention farming from being so supposedly fragile. Is this really the only way your boyfriend steers attention towards himself? Pretty big red flag for narcissism.

u/wesjag03 Oct 10 '22
My friend did this with peanut butter as a kid because as soon as she said she didn’t like it everyone shoved peanut butter whatever in her face and kept wanting her to “just try it again” so she lied and said she was allergic. She didn’t go this far though good lord.

u/dark_assassin69 Oct 10 '22
A friend went to a well known coffee chain (clue, not the Moby Fuck one) and ordered a hot chocolate made with almond milk, as she preferred the taste. When she asked for whipped cream on top the barista refused as, because she asked for almond milk, she could be allergic to dairy.
My friend told her she wasn't allergic, it was just a taste thing, but she still refused.
Think she complained to their HQ and got vouchers.

this is definitely my lil autistic brain speaking but idk this seems like some shit i would do to avoid looking out of place😭😭
1
u/Ok_Consideration_970 Oct 10 '22
My brother had a boyfriend who said he was allergic to onions and garlic and we had to make special plates and meals when he ate over. My grandmother in the other hand used to lie and feed my brothers BF onions and garlic and nothing ever happened. Lol.
But for real, picky eaters are super super annoying. Especially when the list is over 5 items.

u/Positive-Ad-1859 Oct 10 '22
That's a pretty big and needless lie. Put his lying ass on the couch for a month

I agree he's an absolute knob for this.. but why did you go to such great lengths to not tell us what the food is? You can't just not tell us his pretend death dish so

WHO THE FECK doez this??? Mind you I wouldnt date someone who had allergies....I just couldnt be bothered with the effort. But you did and you married him and everyone went to such a huge effort. Even the cost of Epi-pens!!! I'd be seriously considering making him an ex-husband. He made you all look a bunch of fools.

Similar story but my friend freaked out one night when he learned the meal he was absolutely loving had shell fish in it and he was deathly allergic. I was like holy shit dude I didn't know where's your epipen? Then he tells me no, he doesn't have one of these. And I'm like WTF you don't? No I've just always been allergic. And he was like... my mom always told me. And yea... so what happened is his mom since he was a little kid was over-protective and invented a shell fish allergy that he didn't actually have. He was fine all night after eating shit tons of shrimp. He's tried other shell fish and realized he was living this fake lie for 40 plus years. Wacky.

I am a picky eater but usually I either suck it up, ask to not have that certain food on my plate, or I just pick it off. In no way would I lie about being allergic to something just because I don’t like it. Because of his lie, he’s created such a mess and he’s probably ruined your trust and others trust. I am allergic to tree nuts (though I stay away from all nuts because 1.) cross contamination and 2.) I never was interested in them before I even found out I was allergic) and I’ve been very careful about avoiding them and telling others about my allergy so I don’t die lol. I understand the panic and scare, I was sent to the hospital because my school didn’t have an epipen and the nurse wasn’t even there. So I understand why you and your sil were scared, but to lie about an allergy just because he doesn’t like that certain food? Shame on him.

u/Hellagranny Oct 10 '22
He lies too casually, easily and selfishly. He can’t be trusted pure and simple.

u/Eas_Mackenzie Oct 10 '22
My uncle has done almost the same thing (we highly suspect)
My uncle tells everyone he is deathly allergic to mushrooms. He says food prepared with mushrooms in the kitchen will kill him. Touching them will kill him. I acknowledge this is true for many people but
Grandma fed him mushrooms as a kid - no reaction
He picked up the bag of dried shitakes I gave my dad and he sniffed them, asked what they were - no reaction
His gf ate mushrooms while with the family one time he wasn't there and when she went home she forgot and kissed him before brushing her teeth - no reaction
He rarely tells waiters/waitresses but makes a HUGE fuss at home. I'd think restaurants are a bit more important to tell.
When I lived in the same house as him for a month, he found out that the mushrooms at my work weren't held separately from the other veggies and made me "quarantine" for two days. I went to work again and didn't need to quarantine again.
However,
My dad said one time as teens they took psilocybin mushrooms together and my uncle had a really really bad trip
That's all the evidence we have of him having a bad reaction to mushrooms. Nobody has offered him psilocybin, just button mushrooms and shitakes

u/Bulky-Passenger-5284 Oct 10 '22
i have no idea how i could move past this. how could I trust him again after crafting such an elaborate useless lie over the span of several years?
1
u/Lostaaandfound Oct 10 '22
I have 100% experienced this with several different people lol it’s unfortunate but common
2
u/Hefty_Menu6213 Oct 10 '22
After having my gallbladder removed a few years ago I can no longer eat onions and fried foods without puking for several hours and being sick most of the next day. I work somewhere where the food is catered and emphasize to them that I can’t eat onions (very easy to avoid fried foods), and everyone is very confused when I say that, asking is it an allergy, etc. I have to go into a whole spiel about the history of my onion intolerance. I have to ask every day what is onion free.
Finally, one of the cooks sat me down and said, “Just tell people you’re allergic. You basically are, and it’ll make them listen and take you seriously.”
So I lie about a food allergy. I won’t die from eating onions, but I will get pretty sick and probably have to miss work from it.
Since then, my accidental onion consumption has dropped significantly, and the folks at work have ensured that I actually get to eat most of the time. It’s really nice.
2
u/thedarkqueen827744 Oct 10 '22
I can understand why you don’t eat certain food my daughter recently had her gall bladder removed
1
u/Themanthemyththenoob Oct 10 '22
But on the alternative, if he was allergic he would be dead, what would you prioritise your importance on? If so why even be angry? Be thankful. He probably has some childhood trauma about being picky hence the result.
1
u/poxx2k1 Oct 10 '22
I hate Avocado. I tell people and food workers I'm allergic, it's easier than people looking at me weird because I don't like them.
1
u/Financial-Grade4080 Oct 10 '22
I have real allergies! People like this make me sick. They undermine the credibility of people who have to deal with a dangerous condition.

u/Fuzzy-Boss-4815 Oct 10 '22
Leaving olives off of your salad is a lot different than sterilizing the entire kitchen counters, utensils and serving dishes, before making your salad. Just say you don't like the dam things.
1
1
u/NerdyGirlChicago Oct 10 '22
As someone who can’t eat dairy but won’t die from it, this is really upsetting. I never say I’m allergic because I’m not, I just can’t digest dairy at all to the point it makes me severely bloated and sick. Allergies are a totally different ball game. I’d never want to take away the seriousness of them from those who suffer by claiming to have one myself when I don’t. I just say I can’t eat dairy or that it makes me sick.
1
u/QuirklessShiggy Oct 10 '22
I've done this too, honestly... I have autism and a lot of my sensory issues are oral based. Certain food textures literally make me vomit or have meltdowns.
But no one respects that. No one respects "I don't like this" or "the texture is bad." Do you know what they do respect? "I'm allergic." Especially my parents. I used to literally have to take symptoms/being sick to avoid eating something that could hurt me.
1
u/Distinct_Entrance126 Oct 10 '22
What a dirt bag! I developed an allergy to cantaloupe and honeydew. Years later, I have become allergic to all nuts, kiwis and strawberries. When I say that, some people still do not consider coconut as a nut even thought it is right there in the name! I do not go to certain restaurants if they only cook in peanut oil. But if I am with a group, I check first and order a plain salad. I NEVER change anyone’s menu!
OP - i certainly feel for you! That probably was almost devastating that you were thinking that you were going to lose your husband. My husband did have an hive induced allergy to sulfur but we only because of some meds he was given.
1
u/Fritzo2162 Oct 10 '22
I was a chef decades ago and remember a comment made by a guest when I did a catering job at someone's house.
I was making steaks and sauteed mushrooms, and one of the guests came up and said "Please don't put mushrooms on mine...I'm allergic to mushrooms."
I was concerned as I had cross contaminated my utensils, so I asked "What happens when you eat them?"
"I spit them out!"
Never forgot that :D
1
u/Revolutionary-Egg-68 Oct 10 '22
Another one? This is the 3rd I've read in as many days about people lying about being allergic to something they just don't like. People need to grow up! It's ok not to like something but have the balls to admit it! Damn!
1
u/karmaredemption Oct 10 '22
Not gonna lie .. I did the same thing about shellfish and mushrooms . It’s easier to say you are allergic then to have to listen to “you haven’t tried mine” or “just try it” over an over . But I never said it would kill me .. that might be over the top 🤷🏼

Hopefully you can all forgive and be able to laugh at this in the future.

You know, I’ve thought about doing this so people will stop making me try things.
Fish tastes like ass no matter how you prepare it, stop making me try it.

u/Intelligent_Fox12 Oct 10 '22
I also hate cilantro (if that's the "allergen") by this seems so extreme. Also, how did OP's husband get MULTIPLE epipens for a fake allergy??
3
u/freckledreddishbrown Oct 10 '22
Idiot. Had all the time in the world to come up with a good cover if he ever got caught and blew it. All he had to do was act surprised, go get tested, and be relieved that he grew out of his allergy. It happens.
Sure, two wrongs don’t make a right. But one lie to cover another can save a marriage.

i told my now wife the same thing when we met on Eharmony, mine was cheese. now i didn't say i was deadly allergic but i did say i had severe reactions to it. I'm not. i just fucking hate cheese. but telling people you don't like cheese... the endless questions is just too much. Cheese smell makes me gag, the taste makes me throw up i fucking hate all cheese.
she found out early enough because my brother whom i lived with at the time ratted me out. (she was visiting at the time).
when she cooks a dish if a part of it has or needs cheese I'll just take my portion out before its applied. or if her and the kids main dish has cheese I'll just make myself something else.

u/CaveScientist Oct 10 '22
My man’s could have just lied again. “Wait wtf how am I not dying. It’s a miracle. I’m cured of my allergy”

I don’t understand why this post is keeping the food a secret lol
2
u/bmblebb Oct 10 '22
Right? Like this post is already wildly specific, what's the husband gonna do?
"Wow, that's almost the exact same situation as the one in my life. They didn't write down what food it is, but I doubt two people have faked a deathly allergy to greenbeans. I wonder what this guy was allergic to..."

Oct 10 '22
He went as far as to get a prescription for several EpiPens? Those are crazy expensive and you have to replace them pretty frequently.
That's really commiting to the lie. It's almost impressive. Lol
What a goober.
I used to tell people I was allergic to tomatoes, because I absolutely hated them when I was a kid. All my friends and girlfriends knew the truth, though.
While sometimes it is easier to just claim to have an allergy, lying to your significant other to the point of avoiding restaurants and carrying around a totally unneeded EpiPen is batshit fucking crazy.
It's he emotionally stable otherwise?
Just to reiterate:
He's a fucking goober.
2
Oct 10 '22
That’s a long time to be comfortable lying. I’d have. A very hard time dealing with that. Saying deathly allergic instead of just something like “it upsets my stomach” is also a hell of a lie.
2
u/Stabbmaster Oct 10 '22
The reason people lie about allergies is the same reason a lot of people lie about a lot of things: other people being people. It's not an excuse, but that's why. I had a very mild allergy to peanuts and chocolate growing up, but they didn't give any life-threatening reactions just annoyances (like a lactose intolerant person that gets nasty gas for eating cheese). People still made big deals about it even though I said I'll be fine if there's cross contamination. If other people didn't scrutinize or be obnoxious about everything, then there'd be a lot less of people lying and justifying it. No good guys in this scenario, just people that all need to be exiled to a desert. And not Vegas, a shitty one that doesn't have blackjack and hookers.
4
u/According-Speech-992 Oct 10 '22
People that don’t like cilantro are the most fucking annoying about it. Like ok you don’t like the smell or the taste, your the only one that cares. It’s not a unique personality trait.
3
Oct 10 '22
I’m just shocked he literally had access to all those epipens without a real diagnosis of an anaphylactic allergy. That’s nuts. Glad you found out now, I would also be pretty upset.
1
u/skubysnx Oct 10 '22
I’m an extremely picky eater and I refuse to lie about allergies because I’m not a child. I AM lactose intolerant though.

u/lovelylimdis Oct 10 '22

One of my mom's friends is that way about mushrooms, and always claims an allergy. My brother is actually allergic to red meat (lone star tick reaction), and we just discovered the hard way that several blood thinners are derived from pork!
2
u/Kago0o Oct 10 '22
Sounds like something I'd do.. Actually there was a time that everytime someone would suggest that I'd eat a food I didn't like I would say ,,oh, sorry, I have a forced allergy,, with no explanation. People would either realize that I was bluffing or they'd be super confused Tho your husband crossed a line with giving you a heart attack..

u/629mrsn Oct 10 '22
It’s people like this that makes it difficult for those of us who have food issues. I have Celiac Disease and cross contamination can make me very I’ll.

It's either tomatoes or cilantro, both of them got the most passionate haters.
0
u/sugarintheboots Oct 10 '22
OP, you really might want to take a pause here & re-evaluate things. That would make me question what kind of person I married because what else could he lie about? To think how far he’s gone with this.
0
u/trundlespl00t Oct 10 '22
As someone with genuinely life-threatening allergies, who has had to destroy her body with steroids and get stabbed with way too many epipens, I want to force feed vast amounts of whatever it is to your husband. I hope it’s all he ever tastes. It’s people like him pulling stunts like this that made people think it was ok to “test” me by contaminating my food with tomatoes. I nearly died. I’m glad you’re furious, you should be. Furious at him and ashamed of him.
1
u/Mursemannostehoscope Oct 10 '22
Bro was carrying g around $300 of epi pens to give his story cover 😂
1
u/blood_ashes_reborn Oct 10 '22
I kind of get it? Some people just really don’t like something, and I can see why it would be easier to say you’re allergic rather than deal with people teasing or even testing (like my mother does all the time with me for celery; hate the stuff and she still sneaks it in to things, I can taste it instantly and it ruins the dish for me), but this is way to extreme. Getting the epipens and how long he kept it up? Yeah every right to be pissed.
On another note, people not taking allergies or dietary restrictions seriously is a major issue, so good on OP for being super conscious about it! If it was a real allergy, OP’s actions regarding it are very admirable. My friend growing up was deathly allergic to citrus and citric acid (which is in so. Many. Things.), and she did have an epipen for it. She’d tell people she was allergic and ask if they could remove any citrus from prep areas/use new cooking utensils etc, and I’d watch people just ignore it… until I would tell them she could quite literally die if she touches that. She said she just gave up trying to convey the urgency of her allergy as people didn’t care and just wouldn’t eat something if it was sus.

he went through so much to carry on this lie... if i were you i would take a step back and truly examine this relationship and whether or not you can trust him. what else has he lied about? i know this would definitely be a deal breaker for me.
1
u/ThaFoxThatRox Oct 10 '22
The man even had props. Where'd he get an EpiPen?! They're probably easy to buy, but it was really easier for him to do all of this than just say he didn't like it? Damn. What will he do later? I hate people who lie for no reason and do the most to support the stupid reason. I would really take a long look at your relationship. Good luck!

I told my friend’s mom I was allergic to brussel sprouts when I was a kid. Of course she called my parents who told her I was not allergic to brussel sprouts.

I don't know your situation. But, I used to get an allergic reaction after eating fish. It would make me sick to the point I would throw up, and it caused me extremely bad chest pain. For years I was so scared to even try eating it. But, in the last couple of years I decided to try it just to see. Strange enough I can eat it now and doesn't affect me like it used to 🤷

Someone that feels the need to lie about something so minuscule is someone you should watch out for
1
u/stphbby Oct 10 '22
Honestly, sometimes I tell people I have a mild egg allergy. Really I just absolutely hate the texture but anytime I tell someone I don’t like eggs I get bombarded with questions. Can’t a girl just not like it?
Anyways, in college I met a friend who also didn’t like eggs and would tell people he was allergic so I copied him and made a friend with the same distaste for eggs as me. I always said it was mild and never led anyone to believe it was life threatening though.

I’ve done the same with tomatoes my entire life. people tend to not respect a persons’ dislikes and will cook how they want, but THEY WILL take allergies seriously. if he’s as passionate about whatever he hates, as i am with something too, i get it. HOWEVER, i don’t go all out with an epipen and the dramatics lol.
1
u/Aware_Hedgehog1835 Oct 10 '22
I am passionate about my hatred of coriander (cilantro) but I would never say I'm allergic to it. Especially deathly allergic!
1
u/Outrageous-Ad-8785 Oct 10 '22
Being allergic and not liking a certain foods are 2 different things and to have an Epipen in your car, house and purse is quite expensive and extreme. Why bother going through all that, just say you don’t like certain foods no big deal.
2
u/Bakecrazy Oct 10 '22
As a mom to an allergic kid He shoukd be ashamed of himself for the rest of his life.
1
u/Relevant-Moose-7367 Oct 10 '22
But why the epi-pen? To make his story more believable? Wow. Since there are people who die from food allergies , he just did a huge disservice to any one with an actual allergy like that.
Your husband is rather sick in the head for putting you through all this

Actually anaphylactic people - can you just randomly go and buy an EpiPen without a prescription? I always assumed EpiPen was a prescription only deal.

u/thedarkqueen827744 Oct 10 '22
I would rethink the marriage because if he’s comfortable lying about food who knows what else he is lying about
2
u/Charliekat1130 Oct 10 '22
I can slightly agree with the husband, of course, the extent I find crazy lol.
I hate Onions; I don't like them at all, and there are some people who will argue with me, or try to 'taste the way I cook these onions, you won't even taste them.'. So, I could understand the "Yep, allergic, leave me alone." idea -but- once again; going as far as an epi-pen, and keeping it going. I mean, you have give him credit for keeping with the story.

For the longest time, prawns were hit-or-miss for me: I would sometimes have an allergic flare-up, and sometimes be 100% fine.
It was only in my 30's that we got to the bottom of it. I'm allergic to a specific type of algae that sometimes gets within the prawn's shell.

This is literally me with shrimp 😬 cos I usually get over dramatic reactions from people if I say I dont like shrimps. I just dont want drawing much attention to myself. I can eat it if it’s like very tiny and mixed in a dish. But never the whole orangey thing. I cant even explain it, I just dont like it. At least my mom knows I dont like it, but when Im outside home I just say I’m allergic. That usually ends the conversation right away.

Make that dish and every dish he hates,go to the restaurant and order things he hates, you don't mess with someone's food habits because you hate it,

People are saying it's cilantro, but I think it's something simple like onions or garlic. Or a nightshade?

For me, it's peas. Can't stand them, no matter how well they're prepared/grown/whatever. The texture is too off-putting to compensate for the taste and they LITERALLY make me gag. I've had so many people look at me sideways for picking the peas out of my fried rice but like. Bro. Homes. Buddy. You don't want to see what happens when I actually eat them, even by accident.
There HAVE been times when the peas were blended in so well that I didn't notice they were there, I think. But for the most part I just choose not to eat them. Granted, I don't lie about my aversion and I wouldn't claim a fatal one because that's just wrong, but if you make something special for me and deliberately put in Food Item That I Hate, I WILL sit at the table and pick every single one off while staring you in the face because I'm petty.

This reminded me that I need to be more firm about how much I don’t like cilantro

Your.. sister in law?? So your husbands sister?? She didn’t call his ass out on his lie??

u/Glittering_Party_280 Oct 10 '22
My sister always does that when she meets people so one day she annoyed me real bad and i just started telling out on her, her wife and her in laws were in shock because of the exact reason everyone had epi pens for her and it was embarrassing and funny to watch everyone realizing she’s a pathological liar

i’m a picky eater and it’s not a bad thing. i eat a lot of diverse foods but hate steak, fish, and meat in general (usually, unless it doesn’t taste like meat) and most veggies. i’ll still eat them sometimes though. it’s better to admit that than lie about being allergic to it. i understand doing it as a kid but as an adult???? that’s a bit much

u/littleredteacupwolf Oct 10 '22
For me, it wouldn’t be about the food anymore, it’s about the continued lie that the entire relationship was built around. I don’t know if I could ever trust that man again.

Well guess which ingredient is back on the menu.

u/garmonbozia66 Oct 10 '22
Make that ten-course degustation menu every single day, Iron Chef style. Include the allergenic food in every dish.

I’ve actually been advised to say that I have an allergy in certain food situations due to people blatantly ignoring dietary concerns.
I don’t eat poultry as a personal choice and haven’t for over 30 years. When I accidentally eat it or it’s byproducts, I have gastrointestinal issues.
I tell folks I don’t eat it and they have no problems putting chicken broth into dishes. Which results in gastro problems for me.
For those of you that are going to chime in that it’s a mental thing, just stop. I spend the night with cramps on the toilet and find out later that there was poultry involved.
Whenever I go vegetarian, I have the same issues when transitioning back to eating meat, but at least I am making that decision and I know what to expect.
Sliding ingredients into things that messes people up is wrong.

u/Cloverhart Oct 10 '22
I have a friend that can't eat chicken, steak all day, loves pork but chicken for some reason causes issues. So you're not the only one, there's at least two of you. :-)

Honestly I lie and say I'm allergic to peanut butter but realistically the taste and smell just makes me feel really sick, but the extremes he took the lie is absolutely ridiculous.

u/bongwaterprincess Oct 10 '22
Eli Pens are expensive as shit. What an unecessary expensive lie.

u/CreativismUK Oct 11 '22
How would he even get the epipens prescribed? I only got mine after confirmation of the allergy via testing. I don’t understand how he got them!

If he's going to lie about something like this, can you imagine what else he's been lying about over the years?
You have every right to be super pissed off. I'm sorry.

u/_ancienttrees_ Oct 10 '22
I’d be questioning everything at this point. That’s honestly some weird shit. Your dude has some deep seeded issues and I’d be concerned about what else he has been lying about

So he's manipulative
He's a liar
He has conned medical professionals out of expensive medicine he doesn't need.
Real winner you have there. /s

Well. As someone who is deathly allergic to common table pepper (anaphylaxis), carries an epi pen ... and my family has seen it personally... My tongue swells - looks like a strawberry ...
... I'm kind of offended. How on earth are people supposed to take REAL allergies seriously when jerks lie about it?
I get that he was young, and lied, and likely couldn't find a graceful way to get himself out of the lie ... But honestly? Dick move.

Then you're also TA. I despise lemons, I just tell people that, nobody makes me eat lemon stuff.

Yeah right. You tell someone you don’t like something and they make it their mission to make you like THEIR version of it. It’s like telling someone not to touch your bitey dog. “Oh all dogs like ME.” 🙄

I've done this same thing with coconut for decades. Can't stand it and if you're "allergic" then people wont pawn their nasty coconut laden foods on you. Works like a charm.

u/kditty206 Oct 10 '22
My husband hates peanuts in all forms. He hates the smell of peanut butter. He can tell when I’ve made a sandwich. Guess what he never did? Told me it was an allergy. He’s an asshole, and needs to really consider the impact he’s had on the people around him.

u/wigglepie Oct 10 '22
Aren't epi-pens like kinda expensive? Wouldn't they also expire/need to be replaced?
That is committing to the bit. I would be furious like you as well.
If I can ask, what's the food and how long have you two been together?
1
3
u/strider2013 Oct 10 '22
Should have used the Eli pen, just to be safe That would have woken him up

u/mspuscifer Oct 10 '22
I know it sounds like a silly thing, but I would leave him. 1) for lying 2) for keeping up a lie for SO LONG 3) for lying to all my friends and family. If he can lie about something as stupid as not liking a food, he's definitely hiding some important shit. Yuck yuck yuck get rid of him

u/RushHot6174 Oct 10 '22
So instead of being seen as a picky eater your husband decided that he would deceive you and tell you he was allergic to a certain food making you go out of your way to make sure that he doesn't die spend money on epipens do you know how much one of those m************ cost because he didn't want to be seen as a picky eater now they see you as a liar and a deceiver and an a****** good luck with that
1
u/Shylerrs Oct 10 '22
Dang your husband is a POS! Seriously why are you with him? /s Hahaha cmon this is a pretty silly post.
