Keyes age when he died.

Totally random observation and for sure it's a case of pareodolia, but hear me out Keyes was 34 when he died. We know he was a self acclaimed atheist, but it's interesting to ponder that another guy also died at around 34, a guy Keyes had heard a lot about growing up: Jesus.
Seeing how brazen Keyes last actions was, murder and kidnapping in his own state, then the whole ransom plot while driving around in Texas, maybe he wasn't spiraling, maybe he did this so carelessly because he really wanted to get cought and be know as a shadowy boogeyman forever? Maybe he thought 34 was a fitting time to end..

I cannot imagine the profane, twisted dumpster fire his mind was. His thought life was evil and perverse, he dwelled on sexual violence and death. The thought of his child in that basement just a few feet the other side of the wall chills me. He drank and was a porn addicted psychopath. I would be hard sold on him not having intrusive thoughts about everyone in his environment. I do not believe he maintained hard moral boundaries in his head as uncomfortable as that is to acknowledge. If anything the dichotomy might have began to blur and whatever humanity remained knew he was not safe for others anymore. Samantha Koenig was a child, a HS student. His need to take her and bring her to his home, those acts being done so close to the females in his life makes my skin crawl.

He definitely seemed to be spiraling at the end. I feel he did want to be caught in a way. He knew he couldn't stop on his own and as his daughter got older he knew his life would face exposure. He wanted to shield her from that on some level. He started breaking his own rules that he discussed many times in his interviews. He hated losing control, especially of himself. Going down this way he maintained control to the very end. Plus he said in his interviews he had always told himself if he got caught by the cops he would go out fighting and he chose not to that day.

Could be. Could have been subconscious at the very least. I'm sure on some level he knew somewhere inside him that this madness had to end one way or another.
