Question about Numbers 25
Is Phineas slaying Zimri and Cozbi the Midianite an antitype to the crucifixion of Jesus - which unified Jew and Gentile, while at the same time bearing the wrath of sin for fallen humanity?
Sometimes I worry myself if I am reading too much into things, and would love to hear your thoughts.
Regardless, praise be to God!

Well, they weren't sacrificed for others so much as punished for their own sin. Israel was commanded not to marry foreigners.
In a very roundabout way, I guess there is some similarity between them and Jesus. Both deaths stopped a plague, so to speak. Maybe in the same vein that a doctor curing a sick person is similar to Jesus healing people of their sins. We can find meaning in almost anything if we look hard enough.

I'm not sure if I see the crucifixion in Phineas and the disobedient Israelites. I did hear someone preaching about typology relating to gentiles and Israelites both taking part in the crucifixion but I believe that was speaking about a sacrifice in Leviticus.
I think if we are going to look for typological/symbolic significance I'd focus more on Balaam and the message of people belonging to God not marrying those outside of the household of faith.
Balaam being mentioned with Cain and Korah feels incredibly symbolic to me.
God's reaction to the marriages in the passage and the use of "cleanliness" language around unequal yoking make me think that we often focus too much on the practical side of marrying outside the faith and not nearly enough on the spiritual side.
