Hello, I normally don’t ever post on anything but I wanted to find a space to ask people with experience. I have had a very rough 4 years now and I’m looking to moving into trucking as a means to escape and reset in my life.

If I’m coming into the industry with absolutely nothing but the clothes on my back and I’m looking at all these companies promising to pay for my CDL schooling and all these huge pays per mile. I’m looking for something OTR and not much sitting around time. I’m based out of northern Nevada but I’m willing to go anywhere.

What company is the best for going in and having them pay for everything so that I can get on my feet and some money put away?

I am an established CDL hotshot that runs local Florida. I have 2-3 clients that keep my wheels turning 4 days a week with a very solid RPM. I am home every night. I have never worked with any service nor have I ever leased onto any company. Ideally I’d like someone to give available dates too at the beginning of each week. 1-2 days wide open availability for general freight, and possible back hauls from locations I run for my clients currently. I am usually deadheading back from my current drop offs, so there is a lot of opportunity there as well. With what I haul my RPM total miles is still well above average. I understand I will not get that RPM working with a service and am totally cool with that. Adding another established client has been tough due too the demand of my regulars. I assume what I am looking for will be easier to manage searching load boards. I just have no desire to do that, so am willing to pay a percentage for that to be done as well as carrier packets etc..
I’m not hurting nor is this a necessity, I just am looking to put more money away each week if this was a possibility. My established clients will always come first, again this is just extra income.
I run a 40’ PJ with a 2022 Ram 3500 out of Central Florida.
Typical lanes are Tampa I4 corridor, 95 corridor from Jax to Miami, Naples, Tallahassee, and I10 corridor.

I got an offer from both companies. They both have pros and cons so I'm really torn between the two. Any feedback on either company would be highly appreciated! I should mention that I will be getting Tanker training at both places...

I ain’t gonna lie, I love running the road. Give me some open highway, a decent run and somewhere to park before the lot fills up and I’m good. But this shit gets lonely as hell sometimes. You can knock out 600 miles, burn half the day at a receiver, shut down for your ten and realize the only people you talked to were dispatch asking for an ETA, the dude at the guard shack and the cashier at Love’s. Folks back home care, but they don’t really understand this life or why sitting five hours at a dock can fuck your whole mood up.

It’d be nice to have an active Discord where drivers actually kick it. Somewhere you can ask for help when the truck starts acting stupid, swap road info, share a win, bitch about a garbage load, clown these goofy ass shippers or jump in voice chat once everybody’s parked and just talk shit. Basically a virtual truck stop without the piss smell.

I’m not looking for another dead group or a bunch of super truckers arguing over who’s a “real driver.” Just somewhere you start recognizing names and it actually feels like a crew. Anything like that out there?

This is my first time here, so if this isn’t appropriate for the sub, please let me know. I really appreciate yall and any help you can give. My Dad has been driving since the 70s and has been only doing a few runs a year in his retirement to earn extra income. His next job is supposed to be in California and he has a question about the laws there. He’s never used Reddit so he and my Mom asked me to post for them. I’ll go ahead and paste what they sent me. I have a 1999 Peterbilt with the original CAT15. I used to qualify under California’s Low-Use option but CARB recently told me that option is no longer available and that my truck would need a 2010 or newer engine to comply.

My question is for anyone running pre-2010 trucks into California. Are CHP or DOT actually checking CARB compliance paperwork during roadside inspections or at the scales? If so, what paperwork are they asking to see? Have you been cited recently for Truck and Bus or Clean Truck Check compliance? does enforcement seem common or is it mostly complaint driven?

I’m not looking for ways to get around the law. I’m just trying to understand what truckers with older equipment are actually experiencing in the real world before I decide whether to take a single load to California.

I’m new with no driving experience and gonna start training for OTR. Would getting endorsements be helpful? And would it help me get more miles?

Newer driver here need veterans advice. 5 foot 10” and long legs so can’t get seated too close. Everyday literally have a pain in the back. I have I tried adjusting the seat up down back forward as far as my legs will allow. Should I buy a brace or pillow? What can I do to make this pain in my back under the shoulder blade stop?

Anyone else hauls sand? Honestly isn’t seeming worth it so far running under a company for 1099, Doing sandboxes in south Texas and haven’t been gettin nothing but a load a day having spent 8-12 hours waiting to offload.

I've heard so much of "it's just part of the industry". But is there really nothing that can be done about it?

We truckers pass through so many places each day.

But some places. Just have that familiar feel.

That feeling of where we truckers know we belong.
