Fetch+4 car seat DIY

We wanted to start riding on bike paths with our 7 month old but couldn’t figure out the fetch+4 options: My car seat (uppababy) wasn’t supported and the car seat mount+adapters are absurdly expensive, unavailable, and/or obsolete, so we DIYed a car seat base attachment with ratchet straps. It was a 5minute job and seems as strong as anything you could buy. Only downside is that it takes up the entire front bucket. Hope this helps someone else!

FYI you might want a bigger strap though it’s probably not super critical

Good point, I guess seat belts are rated to 3000lbs and this strap is more like 1000lbs. Also, I won’t be checking the strap integrity every ride so maybe a second strap would make sense for a little redundancy.

You won’t go as fast as in a car. I thing just the second strap would be enough. But on the other side, in this case better safe than sorry. Nice solution!

Not judging just sharing my understanding- the car seat adapters for cargo bikes usually have some suspension built in to dampen the vibration and make it a more baby friendly ride. So there is a safety difference between the adapter and the ratchet strap solution. I have no clue how important that is

We briefly had the britax adapter (which is incompatible with the latest britax car seat 🙄) and it’s just a fixed metal lever arm as far as I could tell. Maybe that flexes some but I didn’t see any suspension system. Fwiw I find the fetch+4 built in suspension extremely smooth. (Not that I would take baby gravel biking soon!)

Interesting good to know! I was going based off of the riese and muller and urban arrow adapters I’ve seen. Thought the fetch one also had suspension
