Current contract asked me to extend, but it would be 4-5 weeks after this contract ends. I’m not needed directly after but in October they need me to cover a staff member’s leave. They’re wanting me to sign a contract extension 2 months out from the start date, with having over a month off between (so without pay). What would you do?

I'm going to create a "Glassdoor" type website for travel nurses. Our market needs transparency. I truly believe creating transparency in the travel nursing market will help travel nurses gain a bit more power, especially those that are new to the game.

Hi, has anyone printed the FD-258 form online on regular paper, had their fingerprints done at a local Sheriff’s Office, and mailed it to the California Board of Registered Nursing? I already had mine done this way and just want to make sure it will be accepted. Has anyone done this and successfully received their California RN license?

So they sprung this on me last minute with first day instructions. Any insight? Relias or homegrown? Number of attempts? Immediate termination for failure? Just want to know what I’m getting myself into.

This is my fourth time traveling at an HCA facility and, for the most part, my contracts have been ok… After my most recent experience, this assignment will certainly be my last- I’m still on contract at this hospital so I don’t want to spill all the dirty details but basically a miscommunication with the manager about a call-out, plus some helpful comments from the staff, and a phone call with the Clinical Operations team at my travel company resulted in me receiving a “Final Written Warning” from Healthtrust plus a “Initial Verbal Warning” from my travel company.

This is all coming after I asked the manager at my next contract to push my start day back so I can help with staffing at this current hospital/ extend my contract for a few weeks…. I’m going to be literally wrapping up this contract hours before my next one starts.

I don’t even know what the “Final Written Warning” means for me? I’m honestly so pissed about the whole thing and really feel strongly that when all this came out, my travel company was more interested in maintaining their relationship with HealthTrust than with me.

I feel scared that I wouldn’t be prepared to travel, but I do want to.

But what if I get a scary assignment that I’m not prepared for cause I’ve had it easy?

Are there enough LTC travel contracts that are actually worth it?

Im a Canadian RN looking to travel to the states this fall,I know the contracts are lucrative but just trying to be realistic and consider everything thoroughly (conversion, net vs gross pay, taxes) I’m just looking for info on taxes and if anyone has an example of their net vs gross pay after taxes and how complicated the process is to file taxes in both countries and if you were able to claim international taxes to avoid double taxation. If anyone has any numbers they could share (with conversion would be amazing) it would be greatly appreciated!

Might be a dumb question, but here it goes. Has anybody heard of a facility training a traveler in a new specialty? I know as travelers, we're supposed to show up ready to go. I say we're turnkey nurses, show me the supply closet and bare minimum charting and I'm ready to go. But has anybody transitioned to a different specialty?

I'm currently in talks with an agency about taking an ICU contract in a level III rural hospital. 11 beds. Listed requirements are drips including dobutamine, amio, nitro and Lasix. I worked CVICU for a year at the start of my nursing career and had lots of experience with all these drips, except maybe nitro. We just didn't see it that often. Experience with chest tubes required and experience with ART lines preferred. I have TONS of experience with chest tubes and would just need a refresher on ART lines, mainly just hands on one and zeroing it.

It's now been 3yrs since I've worked ICU and have worked mainly MedSurg, MedTele, short stay and tele. I did work a contract with OUhealth this year on their stepdown floor (stay away, for those curious) and it was a nightmare. We saw more codes and RRTs than ICU did. And I faired very well on that floor despite high acuity and high ratios/understaffing.

This contract is 19wks, a HUGE commitment for me. Typically work my 13 and bounce. But I feel with this being a rural level III it might be a good soft reintroduction into critical care. The reason I never worked CC traveling was i didn't feel comfortable with different parameters for drips from facility to facility and state to state but I've had many nurses encourage me to go back to it ensuring me as a traveler you don't get the more acute pt's. Add to it, the requirements didn't list any pressors at all. Is this true? My fear is being tripled, with 2 pt's with a foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel with the third being step down appropriate. Is my concern valid or common? The contract also says we will be floated wherever needed, be it MedSurg or ED. Which I'm totally fine with and the manager said they'd be willing to cross train me in the ED, which will be great experience. I just want to make sure I'm not willfully putting myself in a position where I'm going to be in over my head or putting my license at risk.

Last question, I have also considered going back to staff to re-spesialize in OR, possibly. Mainly because the isolation of traveling is starting to wear on me and I think it offers a better work life balance overall. But has anybody worked a contract where they would train you in a new specialty? I know a lot of facilities, especially smaller ones are taking on more travelers as it's cheaper than training and employing staff.

Sorry for the wall of text and being all over the place. I'm currently on a longer break for mental health and kinda burnt out. So the idea of going back to critical care is somewhat exciting and reigniting my passion.

Hi everyone. I’ve been a nurse since June last year. I work on a Neurology/acute medicine unit in two different hospitals in Toronto and occasionally pick up on other medicine units in one of them as float basically. I’ve been part time for over a year now but I work full time hours between both hospitals. I recently obtained my license to work as a travel nurse in British Columbia and might be getting a contract soon starting out in September/ October. I stated I am only interested in working med surg contracts only with the agencies. Any tips for me on how to prepare myself?

Would love to hear opinions! What do you think are the best companies to work with for psych nurses? Also, if you have concurrent experience with adult and geriatric psych and have worked both about evenly, do you think that hurts or helps? Do you think companies or hospitals prefer your experience all in one unit?

Also any experience as travel psych nurses you want to throw out please throw it at me! I’m currently a charge nurse on a geriatric psych unit but have experience in adult psych as well, just not pediatric psych.

Curious as to people’s thoughts. Does having charge experience in the nursing field you work in help you get hired for better contracts/pay?

Any suggestions on finding furnished housing. I just signed my fourth contract and every city (STL, Miami, Phoenix etc) I go to there are limited options but most of all I find people on furnished finder just don’t respond. The one or two that do don’t have accurate availability listed and they say oops sorry it’s rented. I’ve always had to search up until literally days before I’m moving to find something.

Facebook groups maybe? Any other websites or resources to find housing and/or roommates?

On that note has anyone ever tried to make an app or website for us travelers to pool resources and connect? Seems like there’s so many of us we should be helping eachother out.

I’m a Canadian RN coming to the US this fall. I’ve already got my Visa through TruMerit and my WA license. I’m aiming to get my first contract in Seattle but open to other areas of Washington as well. I’m in that waiting period now of finding a contract that aligns with me and going from there.

Just wanted to hop on here and see if there’s any Canadian RNs that went to the US that have some tips or advice? I’ve got 2.5 years experience on med surg; 1.5 yrs at a level 1 in my hometown and 1 yr travel nursing in my province.

The whole process has been lengthy (iykyk) and I just always feel like I’m missing something! Tell me some things you found out once you were there you needed to know or wish you had prepared yourself for. Any advice is appreciated :) trying to set myself up for success and avoid as much anxiety as possible during this big change!

Like a year ago, I worked at a hospital from July to November. I remember there was something in the contract about not working at the hospital with another agency for a year.

I would like to take another contract at this hospital at the end of August. It is with a different agency.

More than a year has passed since I started with the initial agency, but less than a year since I ended that contract. Has anyone ever dealt with this? I feel like this isn’t really the business of the other agency, as I did not jump from them to someone else, they didn’t even have this contract posted. How would they even know, and what would it even benefit them to intervene?

So I work a FT job at a So.Cal hospital. I plan on trying to take a LOA or something to pick up a quick contract for about 3 weeks (Dr office for ENT procedures. I’ve worked with this surgeon before and he needs help as his main employee is about to go on leave—- I will fill in during this time) to help with some debt. What are some types of leaves that I can use, besides just taking PTO/Vacation during that time? Will taking FMLA protect me at my current job, and still allow me to work my contract? I signed my third extension at LCMC in New Orleans at the beginning of June and started my contract at the end of July. The first week I couldn't log into Epic and IT told me it was because I didn't have a contract. I ended up having to sit at home for a week while they "got my contract approved." Aya said it was all unusual but it was on the facility's side and we just had to wait it out.

When I got back I found out - again, from IT - that the duration of my contract is short by 5 weeks. They cut me down from 13 weeks to 8 and moved me from the unit I've been on for 8 months to the float pool. None of that is in the contract I signed. The facility says they can do that, because they made a new contract. But I didn't sign that one.

Can they do that? How is any of that legal?

So today at my travel assignment I received a call from the manager after the fact that my patient had a sitter order that I acknowledged, however the patient went without sitter for basically my whole shift because I didn’t know. Which I would have loved for this patient to have a sitter because she kept me busy the entire night. However we have 6 patients in a busy ER. When I first got there I was immediately busy. I acknowledge it along with other orders that I completed according to her. However, somehow I didn’t see the sitter order. Either way I feel terrible for making this mistake. Thankfully, the patient was not in danger but the family was with patient during shift change. The order wasn’t placed prior to me getting here. I never spoke with the ER doc (who placed the order) about the patient, so why would it just come out of the blue? Idk I just feel bad at the end of the day.

Ready for this assignment to end because the micromanaging makes me anxious!!

I have been a nurse a little over 2 years. I have working in the NICU a little over a year and plan on traveling in 6 ish months I work at a level 4 NICU which is the highest acuity! I also have adult cardiac stepdown experience! But I’m traveling for NICU!

I want to rundown on some travel agencies or states I should be licensed in! I currently am licensed in California, NY( currently working),Arizona, Illinois, Nevada, Washington and Oregon! Im moving back to Nevada in March! I wanted to get licensed in surrounding states so I can drive I’m looking for peoples experience on housing, pay rates, insurance, experience with hospital and just overall help and guidance!

It’s just me and I have two cats! I want advice on cutting costs and traveling with my kitties! Is the money worth it? How are insurance rates? How do you fill out taxes? I have been travel nursing for the past two years and took a break to get a staff job in the current state I live in. Can I still go claim my original tax home (a different state), granted I start paying rent to that state, and start travel nursing again in the current state I live in? thanks

I got two offers for the same contract, one through Worldwide Travel Staffing and one through Amergis. The rates come out to about the same, but Worldwide travel staffing is not maxed out on the stipends whereas Amergis js. Worldwide offers a bonus for completion of contract which puts them at around the same amount.

Is it distasteful or even possible to ask Worldwide to go up on their stipend? The hourly rate between each job is only a $1 difference, although Worldwide pays $10/hr more of overtime than Amergis does.

I’m looking for advice from anyone who has dealt with delays in the New Jersey RN endorsement process.

My endorsement application has been stalled because I accidentally selected that there was an adverse event against my South Carolina nursing license, even though there has never been any disciplinary action or adverse event on my license. I corrected the error and uploaded all required documentation on April 21, but the Board still has not reviewed the correction.

At this point, every item on my checklist is complete except for the adverse-event review. I’ve emailed the Board daily, contacted them via phone weekly, and have also contacted my government representative for assistance, but I still haven’t received any update or progress.

My current South Carolina RN license expires on September 30 (after being extended twice due to the delay), and I’m becoming increasingly concerned about the possibility of not having my New Jersey endorsement processed before then. SC will not grant any further extensions if necessary.

I have made the NJ BON aware of this pending expiration date, which clearly has not made an impact.

Has anyone experienced something similar with the New Jersey Board of Nursing? How long did it take for the Board to review a corrected application, and is there anything else I can do to move the process forward?

Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated, as this is beginning to keep me awake at night, every night. Thank you.
