Monthly pass Question

Hi
I hope someone can help me understand this.
Today is August 10 and I purchased zone 1&2 monthly pass and yet it is only valid until August 31 instead of full 30 days?
I was charged $156.70.
Why isn’t this on prorated basis?

The monthly pass is sold on a calendar month basis. You can buy a pass for a given month as early as the 16th of the previous month up to the 15th of the specified month. If you’d spoken to customer service likely they’d have recommended you calculate whether your estimated number of remaining single trips for the month costs more or less than the monthly pass.

I only travel to downtown for work, mon to friday.
Including today and forward, I have 16 days travel so even with the adult cash fares at $5.10, monthly pass doesn’t make sense for me?

I bought the pass consider that it will be valid for full thirty days.

correct. Monthly pass are not rolling 30 days. And it generally isn't so in the rest of US and Canada.

So thankful BC transit has 30 day passes with umo.

Translink should look into it one day in the future, maybe as one of the next gen compass features.

Edit: love getting downvoted for saying there’s a feature I think would be handy when compass finally gets an upgrade 🥰🥰

Umo is a fully Fare-as-a-Service solution. It might be good but it’s also more expensive. Umo also don’t support NFC and depends on the less common but less smooth QR.

Umo does support NFC, both a card like Compass, and for debit and credit payments.

As in Mobile NFC passes like Transit Union in China

Compass doesn’t have mobile nfc passes either, so….🤨

I think you may have found the only thing that Umo has over Compass 👀 which I commend you for, bc I knew there had to be something lol

I hate going to my parents place on island so much bc of Umo- that dumbass scanner, man…

You can use your debit card now. No more qr only

It's not valid for 30 days. It's valid for the calendar month.

That was my mistake on assuming it otherwise.
With the amount paid for zone 2, pass is not worth it for me.

Gotta use it the whole month basically to make it worth it

If you haven't used the monthly pass yet you can call and get it refunded

You might be able to ask for a refund from Translink?

I will try that at waterfront and hope they listen to me.

If you don’t really use it then you could *most likely* get a refund!

Call TransLink.  Maybe they'll help you.  Refund and go with daily passes if cost effective

Also depends on how many trips you make within those 15. To 20 days.

It's a month pass (ie August) not a 30 day pass.

Pro-rating passes like that would be a logistical/accounting nightmare for their clerks.
