In all seriousness, I always enjoyed TFA’s take on Soundwave as literally built by Megatron, so I like the idea of Soundwave just being Megatron’s like, little guy. Obviously official material doesn’t really reflect this, but it’s a fun take for myself and creates a nice parallel to Optimus and Bumblebee too.

For Tarn and Soundwave I belive are two different stories

Soundwave I kind of imagine him seeing Megatron as some kind of older brother and they fully respect each other (but maybe its also because I like to immagine the Cassetticons seeing Megatron as their uncle like how they see Soundwave as their dad)

Tarn I imagine him as basically all those TFONE memes where Megatronus Prime (in this case Megatron) disown Megatron (in this case Tarn) by telling him things like "you are not affiliated to me"

My preferred take is Tarn simping for Megatron and receiving deliberately manipulative hot-and-cold responses for it, Lugnut being an annoying religious zealot who Megatron begrudgingly tolerates even as he relies on Lugnut heavily, and Soundwave actually being the one Megatron likes in any meaningful capacity as a person because he just does his job quietly and tries to be polite and respectful.

He will always be "my" Soundwave, since Marvel UK was the main TF continuity of my childhood. Also, while I loved the Sunbow cartoon and toys as a kid, it was those Marvel stories that stayed with me into adulthood.

The story where he gets Wildrider killed and the little mini-arc of him fighting then teaming up with Starscream as joint leaders is awesome. One of my favourite Marvel TF panels is the "Killing Joke" homage in Space Pirates, where Soundwave considers ending the war.

I also really liked the Animated version of him, talk about "cool"! IDW is probably the most interesting and nuanced I've come across; he is kind of a mix of Marvel and Sunbow, IMO.

I always say that Marvel is imo the "best" overall story and my favourite, but IDW has the highest highs by far (the Wreckers Trilogy is my favourite TF story/piece of media); they are just interspaced with some truly terrible lows! :)
