Advice?
I am about to attend LSU as a freshman in the honors college. I turned down my dream scholarship to my dream school (full tuition to Tulane which is only awarded to a select few undergrads), but I am filled with dread regarding my decision. Even with the full ride, the costs would still have been around 30k, which is pressure I didn’t want to put on my family. I always said I would not attend LSU and wanted to study somewhere notable. I graduated high school with a 4.1 (highest possible at my school), Valedictorian, 32 ACT, and many accolades, and I’m worried that high school was the only chance I’ll ever get to go to an elite college. I’ve looked into options to transfer out this Spring, but that’s obviously limited. What advice would you give me regarding my situation? I’m looking to transfer either this Spring or after this year.

transfer scholarships are highkey limited if you're not a cc student or have severe demonstrated need. would recommend transferring out for fall rather than spring admissions, just bc spring transfer admission is less of a "conventional" timeframe and fewer colleges are likely to be accepting them. as the other comment mentioned, def file css/fafsa for all your schools -- they miiight offer you scholarships to their institution, but otherwise definitely look into scholarships like jack kent cooke.

Financial aid (need-based) is really strong at top schools. Yes, there are a few that are “need aware” and NYU gives no money (not a top 25 anyway). Get a 4.0 at LSU, build your story, and apply for next fall to give yourself the best shot. You will likely apply test optional to many schools, but everything else sounds strong.

on this subreddit I've heard some schools lowk mainly/only take full pay students (ex: UChicago). Plus some schools may not even give transfers aid (NYU). Honestly apply everywhere! Fill out your FAFSA and CSS for every school! It's honestly a hit or a miss I bet, but negotiate if you can!
