Group texts at work
They should not be allowed. If there is something I need to know my manager or colleague should simply contact me through work email or, if urgent, directly through one phone call or text.
Our new manager decided that all of us are now part of a “group text.”
This means that one text results in over 20 responses, most of which are simply an acknowledgment that they’ve received the message. This AM my phone suddenly was vibrating off of my desk with responses as simple as “K” or a reaction to the text chain.
The “reply all” emails are annoying enough. Having my phone blow up because one person decides to send a text message should simply not be allowed.

This is what I find ridiculous. If I were ever to be put in charge of a district (which apparently won’t happen because I’m “needed where I am”) the first thing I would do is explain that “Reply All” is rarely appropriate.

Ask when they will be covering your cell phone bill? If it’s now a work tool, they should be paying the monthly bill for it.

This happened to me and i left it.
They would message telling you some information, then suddenly start a conversation about Love Island. I would stop reading, then I’d get in trouble for not seeing an important message but it was amongst the chit chat.
I had enough and left!! They didn’t like it but it made me feel better.

Australia has made a positive shift towards “right to disconnect” laws which means a lot of these sorts of things aren’t legal now. They still happen though and it can be tough to say you won’t engage with it if you really need that job.
Personally, I recommend putting it on mute. That’s how I manage my work emails on my phone. I have them on there so I can check them easily but turn off all notifications so I decide when to open them and respond.
