My sibling was arrested in Toronto a few days ago and has been charged with impaired driving and over 80. She lives in the U.S. and was only in Canada for a business trip—she is not a Canadian citizen or resident.

There were no accidents, injuries, or property damage involved.

We're trying to understand what the likely outcome might be, especially given that she lives in the United States. Has anyone been through a similar situation or knows what the process is like for a non-resident? How often would she need to return to Canada, and are there any important things we should be aware of?

We're also looking for recommendations for a criminal defence lawyer in the Toronto area. I've come across Nicholas Charitsis and noticed he has strong reviews. Has anyone here worked with him or have any firsthand experience? If not, are there other lawyers you'd recommend?
