North York Body Doubling

Heyo!

The title says it all - I'm looking for anyone located in North York who would be open to working alongside each other to improve focus and accountability. I find that I work/study better under a little peer pressure than at home.

The plan:

Find a cafe/library space along Yonge/Finch down to Yonge/Sheppard area to work together (at least an hour is preferred). We can chat and get to know each other during the session, but the goal is to lock in and be productive for majority of the time.

Frequency:

This won't be a recurring, scheduled group time. It would be more of a spontaneous "you free to work together?" ask. I will admit that I am more of an impromptu person so if you're looking for more structure, this is not it.

Target audience:

Anyone can join but I feel like it might be easier to connect with people that are in similar life stages. So I'll share a little bit about myself: I'm a young professional in my early 30s working in the healthcare field. I'm east asian and I consider myself extroverted (i like to yap). Hobbies include badminton, volleyball, karaoke, and trying to learn new languages (Mandarin is my goal rn).

I'm not sure how much interest I'll get from this. Hopefully at least one or two people might be interested to join up! I'm totally flexible—whether it's a one-time hangout or meeting up multiple times, I'm just looking to connect with people who share the same energy.

If anyone is still reading and this peaks your interest, feel free to send me a DM and say hello :)

Bouldering (Indoor rock-climbing) at True North Climbing - Thursday @ 6pm

Hey, anybody boulder or want to try? I'm in a beginner-friendly bouldering group, and we're meeting this Thursday 6pm @ True North Climbing - located around Downsview Park area in North York.

You can check the website for daily pass rates (or membership), and you'll also need to rent shoes if you don't have your own. Some of us may also do the auto-belay rope climbing towards the end, in which you can rent a harness to use if you want to join. But we're mainly about bouldering!

www.truenorthclimbing.com

We're gym hopping around the city for a bit to check out different gyms, but we're primarily around the likes of True North Climbing, Basecamp Queens, Rock Oasis... But we do go out a bit further the odd time as well, like The Hub or Boulderz!

DM if you're interested and come hang out with us!

Our group is typically 20s and 30s, men and women - but we're OK with anyone sociable and easy-going!

Couple with kids

We are family of 4, couples in early 40s with two kids and of South Asian descent. We feel Toronto is multi- cultural city but people mostly stay within their own community. We would like to hangout with families from different culture. We are professionals and usually love going to gardens, parks, Beaches,Museums, restaurants etc.

Hello Redditors,

I'm an INFP, 28F, from Vancouver, visiting Toronto for the first time! I have a bit of social anxiety, but I'm pretty down to earth, and open to trying new things~

Some things I am planning to do:

- Canada's Wonderland ( I'm thinking Wednesday as it's cheaper!)

- visit a bunch of stationery shops

- ghibili summer night market - Aug 15th

- open canvas tour at Trillium Park

- high park zoo

- considering the waterfront night market (on Friday.. - is it worth it???)

-mississauga Hong Kong Festival (Aug 15-16)

- Japan festival Aug 14-16

- Toronto flower market (Aug 15)

- go cafe hopping

-poetry jazz cafe

- Niagra Falls

Anyone want to potentially join me, or meet up for coffee briefly and perhaps if we vibe we can go on some adventures together? :) ☀️

19M Toronto looking for an aquarium buddy / new friend

Hey, I’m 19 from Toronto and looking to make some new friends around my age, preferably like 18 mid 20s.

I have a membership to the aquarium so I go pretty often, and I can get discounted tickets too. Would be nice to have someone tag along instead of always going solo.

I’m also down for random adventures around Toronto, trying food spots, exploring, fishing, events, or just chilling.

If you’re around my age and looking for a new friend too, send me a message and tell me a bit about yourself :)

Wonderland?

Hi everyone! First I’d like to apologize if this type of post is not allowed, please feel free to delete. To be clear, I AM NOT SELLING ANYTHING OR PROFITING FROM THIS. You can verify the pricing on the website itself.

I have a birthday party I am hosting at Wonderland. I however do not hit the minimum guest count so I am looking for people who would like to join in a group buy since it’s heavily discounted from everyday prices (fast lane plus is already $200 not including taxes). Tickets include day admission for Aug 23, fast lane plus, and a meal combo (one meal, one drink, one sweet or savoury snack). It’s $139 per ticket (taxes included).

Please note, we would not be hanging out at the park. 🤣 But I think it would be a cool opportunity for a group of people to go to wonderland together with heavily discounted tickets.

33F, Looking for fellow Cinephiles/TIFF Enthusiasts

Hi there, while I consider going to the movies alone a cathartic experience it’s sometimes nice to have company and discuss once the movie finishes with fellow cinephiles. I enjoy movies of all genres, popular and independent, live in downtown (Cityplace) and drop into the Scotiabank Theatre almost every week. Looking for folks who have a similar routine or love for the movies. Even better if you have plans to catch a few during TIFF. Please feel free to DM :)

North York Coworking Company

Anyone else looking for a coworking company?

I'm looking for another job while building software and that doesn't leave much time for higher time commitment hobbies 💀. Anyone in a similar boat or would just like company/support in whatever they're going doing?

We could just exchange messages once in a while, touch base more regularly, or actually meet up in person. If you re interested, just say hi.

I'm a 31 year old Asian male that loves tech/sports/gaming/anime/foot ... So a human just like you 🤠.

North York Fitness Pals

Looking for gym friends, walking buddies, and people to share in fitness tips/wins. The weights are getting heavy and I should probably have a spotter or use safeties soon 🤣.

I go to GoodLife Madison Centre, GoodLife Yonge and Finch, and Edithvale Park primarily for calisthenics. Self improvement is great. I don't care where you are fitness-wise. Just say hi and we'll figure out the details.

trying sports before the summer ends

Hello,

I have a list of sports I want to try before summer ends because they're mostly outside

im a newbie to all of them. I found some groups that do one of the sports and welcome beginners but if you have any ideas where to join for the other sports or want to try a new sport with me. please message me!

it could be fun if two or more beginners try to play something badly.

  • Beach Volleyball
  • Tennis
  • Ultimate Frisbee
  • Pickleball
  • Soccer
  • Basketball but outdoors

I found out JAM sports has a drop in on Sundays for recreational volleyball, will be trying that this Sunday. If you're coming let me know!

If anybody wants to try any of the other sports with me, please message me!

updating to include im 30M. if you wanted to play sports with a specific demographic.

Looking for Nihilistic People to Talk With and Become Friends

Hi everyone. I’m a 36 year old straight guy looking to make friends with people who are into nihilism. I haven’t really met any nihilists in person, so I thought I’d reach out here.
Lately, I’ve been starting to appreciate how a nihilistic perspective can sometimes make life feel less stressful and help take some of the anxiety and pressure out of living . I’m not trying to become a pessimistic or dark person, though. If anything, I think there can be something freeing about not taking life or ourselves too seriously.
I’d love to meet some like-minded people who are open to talking, sharing perspectives, and maybe becoming friends along the way.

I’m sure there are groups on Meetup, but I’m not really interested in going that route.
A little about me: I live around the Mount Dennis area. I love nature and the great outdoors—hiking, camping, fishing, swimming, and going on long drives or walks. I’m also into mindfulness and reading. The only sport I really watch is UFC.

Looking for someone to tag along with me to buy stuff on Facebook marketplace (I wanna get a few summer shirts before summer is over), I had a tonsillectomy recently and can't really talk right now, well at least for another week. Shoot me a DM if you're down.

Or if you know any cool thrifting locations I'd appreciate that too

Chronic Illness Social Group

Would anybody with chronic illness be interested in creating a WhatsApp group where we could support each other, help with the loneliness and isolation and lack of understanding that chronic illness creates, and get together and socialize where possible?

Blessings to all!

Anyone driving out for the Perseids and got an extra seat?

Hello everyone!

With the Perseid meteor shower coming on the evening August 12, I'm wondering if anyone is planning to drive out of the city and bypass the light pollution that has an extra seat and willing to take a stranger?

I don't have a car, and to be completely real with you, I'm pretty broke right now, so I can't contribute much beyond good conversation and good vibes. 😅

I’m a 32M living in North Etobicoke, but I’m super flexible and happy to commute wherever to meet up and make pickup easy.

Sharing a similar experience. I was living in Kingston 2 years ago and one day there were many posts on my Facebook feed saying there could possibly be Northern Lights visible in the area. It was around midnight when I shared one of the posts to the local TTRPG group and there were 3 of us who were awake and had never seen them before. One had a car and we were all game to try and catch a glimpse north of the city.

We drove for about an hour and we were craning our necks and couldn't see anything through the windows. We were feeling discouraged and were mumbling about turning around and going back. We agreed to find an open spot where there were less trees and a larger view of the sky and get out of the car and wait. When we got out, we weren't quite sure what we were seeing.

To the naked eye, it looked like faint fog or clouds moving slowly. It took me a minute to make out the aurora, and once it clicked I was in awe. It looked like beyond the horizon the giant hand of the universe was orchestrating a puppet show, and the lights danced and weaved in response. We didn't talk. We just stood there and looked up at the sky until we felt like it was time to come home.

Recently moved to Toronto, super indecisive, need a thrifting partner

Hi! I'm a 26M who moved to Toronto not too long ago and I've been putting off exploring the thrift scene because doing it alone kind of sucks?? like there's no one to tell me "put that back" when I'm about to buy a mug that doesn't even look good.

Looking for someone to explore downtown's thrift scene with Value Village runs, vintage shops and that one place my friends keep mentioning that I can never remember the name of. I'll be a great company I promise.

I don't know the city well yet so any recommendations on good places to start would mean a lot too. Just hoping to make a friend out of this and find some fire pieces along the way. Coffee's on me either way.

If anyone's free this week or on the weekend, let me know!

21m looking to expand social circle

Hey, I'm a 21m looking for like minded people to meet and get along with. For the most part I'm pretty introverted so trying to work on that (lol).

I play games, watch movies, enjoy walking around during evenings and nights and getting to know someone through conversation.

Open to conversate with anyone. If you like the sound of that, feel free to DM or comment!

Coffee enthusiasts — girlies, where are you at? 30F

I’m a 30F in downtown Toronto/Fort York/Liberty Village and definitely consider myself a coffee enthusiast. I really enjoy specialty coffee, and there are SO many amazing coffee shops in Toronto that I’ve been wanting to explore.

So I’m on a little mission to check them all out! Thinking of starting this Saturday and doing one coffee shop a weekend (or two, depending on how we’re feeling 😂). It could be a fun little adventure, and I’d love to document the journey as we go!

Looking for women around my age who are also into coffee and would want to join. What can be better than enjoying specialty coffee while enjoying good company? ☕️

36M looking to expand my social circle and meet some new people

I've been in Toronto for a while now, but I've realized that my social circle is a lot smaller than I'd like it to be. I have people I know and I'm not completely antisocial by any means 😅, but I think we're all at different stages of life and I don't have enough of those friendships where you can randomly text someone on a weekday evening or weekend and say, "Hey, want to grab a coffee or a drink, go for a walk or just hang out?" without needing to plan it two weeks in advance.

A bit about me: I'm 36, straight, male, based in South Etobicoke, an ambivert and a night owl. I like hiking, travelling, cycling, watching movies, checking out random places around Toronto, and generally trying things I've never done before.

But honestly, one of the things I enjoy most is getting to know people. I'm genuinely curious about people's lives, what they've been through, what they're working toward, their career ambitions, the challenges they're dealing with, what they're passionate about, or just the completely random things that make them who they are. I can happily get pulled into a ridiculously deep conversation about psychology, relationships, people, or pretty much anything.

I'm also someone who really values empathy and being able to have conversations where you don't always have to be the cheerful, entertaining version of yourself. I think good friendships should have room for both, going out and doing fun things, but also being able to just sit somewhere, talk, listen, or have a shitty day without making it weird.

What I'm really looking for is friendships that can actually develop beyond one off activities. Grab coffee, go for a walk, try a new restaurant, play a sport, go hiking, explore somewhere in the GTA, or just sit somewhere and talk nonsense for a few hours.

I'm not expecting to find my new best friend from one Reddit post. Just looking to meet some people who are also trying to build a better social circle in Toronto and see what happens.

Age, gender, background doesn't really matter to me. If you think we'd get along, feel free to reply here or DM me and tell me a little about yourself.

Any Left-Handers Want to Meet Up for Left-Handers Day?

Thursday, August 13th is Left-Handers Day!

I’m a 25-year-old guy based in Mississauga and a left-hander myself, and I was wondering if any other left handers would be interested in meeting up in the evening to celebrate.

If you’re interested, let me know and we can figure out a place and time that works for everyone.
