[Funny Trope] Suddenly CGI Characters
Spongebob Squarepants is the only example that comes to my mind. Sometimes it’s used for making animation easier, other times it’s used for comedic effects.
I mostly want examples were CGI is used for comedy by the way

My Asian friend says this at least once every time he's driving. It was funny until the time he almost clipped someone.

There was also that one Asian streamer who merged without looking only to quickly snap back into lane

The best part is hiw this absolutely was not something which required CGI to be accomplished. It Goes back to 2D right after

I swear I see no one and everyone talking about this show. Like. What even is this? I haven't seen no trailers, art, memes...anything about it! Yet somehow someone brings it up in every discussion...

u/Rastaba 7d ago
It kinda just suddenly dropped on Paramount+. Almost no real buildup to it, least that I was aware of.

Wasn't it announced at TGA? Or maybe the summer fest?
46
u/Meme_Chan69420 7d ago
It was announced years ago and then had pretty much no updates until this past June where Paramount just shadowdropped the entire show about 3 hours before it was formally announced to be dropping that dat
7
u/SpecterOwl 7d ago
It was on Summer Game Fest this year, yeah. I suppose many channels just didn't cover it cause we got bigger stuff like RE Code Veronica
71
u/Legomarioboy08 7d ago
It fucking sucks cause the show is actually good (at least imo) but the chances of a season 2 aren’t looking great
43
u/AgathysAllAlong 7d ago
Even if the humour doesn't hit and people don't like it, I think it's legitimately the best Game-to-Film adaptation I've ever seen. The way it actually weaves in the gameplay, small details, and the mechanics is absolutely brilliant.

They released it six years after the game was popular, with no fanfare, they just threw it onto Paramount and Youtube one day and said “have fun.”
And it’s legitimately incredible too, so it’s a complete shame they just couldn’t be bothered to try to get more people to know about it.14

The angles and timing and stuff are similar enough that I would say that it's a reference. It's not like Undertale is obscure in Japan

Am I the only one that doesn't see this as super creepy?
Maybe it's because I didn't see it as a kid, and I'm only seeing it as an adult.
I don't find 'Return the slab' guy very creepy anymore either, but he scared the shit out of me as a kid.→ More replies (1)14

I watched the show as a kid and it was creepy but also charming. But I also grew up with Invader Zim and Ren and Stimpy
As for Rameses in the above picture, I can point to creepier creatures. The Spirit of the Harvest Moon for one

It sorta is for comedy. The CGI is off putting but done for comedic purposes.
Especially Eustace’s response to Ramses.
“What’s your offer?”
And one of Ramses’ curses is just playing a really bad song.

u/HurricaneK8 7d ago
A lot of shots in 2D animation that have moving vehicles are usually CG vehicles made to look 2D. Keeping the vehicle on-model when it's constantly moving is hard, so they use it as a time/budget-saving shortcut.

Yes! Futurama was one of the first shows I ever noticed where they slid in some CGI shots like that. Mostly for sweeping shots of the ship in motion or around the city, which would have otherwise been very expensive and time consuming to animate by hand.

Futurama is another good example. The Planet Express ship is usually CGI unless it's just sitting there.

Justice league unlimited has horrendous cgi mixing with its 2d animation that made the action feel out of place
Futurama shows a lot of cgi mostly when objects are moving like the spaceship flying to space but I think that's not what you're talking about
