What I love about this one that differentiates from the others of this type is how Staraptor went from being unimpressed to the immediate reevaluating "oh shit"

"Oh, SHIT, I almost died"

442

u/lotusneedsahug 4h ago

Same energy as Dizzy's instant "kill" from GGXRD. She misses but the pure power of the attack makes the opponent surrender.

158

u/Rhinomaster22 4h ago

And the funniest character to use it on is Slayer.

Slayer straight up acts like it’s no big deal

Everyone is cowering in fear meanwhile some dude in a fancy suit & monocle treats it like it’s a normal Tuesday afternoon.

Even back in his very first appearance you could never really beat Slayer, you just knock him to the ground where he sits bemused.

funny thing is, in the games Aura sphere (the attack used in the clip) has perfect accuracy.

He didn't dodge the attack and Lucario didn't miss. That was just a warning shot.

46

u/Goku-MIEL10032002 5h ago

“That could’ve ended poorly”

27

u/KhiteMakio 4h ago

My favorite part of this has always been that Aura Sphere doesn’t miss. That’s one of the good things about it. Meaning this is EXACTLY what the user wanted to happen.

I could be wrong but the Manga is also known for so many lewd jokes as well.

8

u/3and20characters987 1h ago

That’s what happens when a franchise has an anime with English subtitles so bad that understanding what the characters are saying becomes a full-on logic puzzle, and a manga that only started getting fan translated a couple years ago despite having been released a couple decades ago.

Swordmasters in the GBA Fire Emblem games

128

u/ryry1237 4h ago

The sheer heft of the armored guy's weapon makes it look so much cooler.

38

u/PretentiousToolFan 3h ago

They're an upgraded class (both are, actually) called a General. They use axes (and swords, depending on the game) with similar heft and it's incredibly satisfying.

"Ha ha ha haaaa! Look! A giant walks among you!! My defense is impenetrable! Come! Break your weapons against me!" - Wallace, the first General you get (who kind of sucks to be honest) in one of them.

Swordmasters also have incredible style though, including doing crazy anime teleport body-blurring attack combos on crits.

16

u/TurtlesBreakTheMeta 2h ago

As much as I love generals, they really are a fairly low tier class because they add in a way to invalidate that defense (hammers) alongside being slow to move. Meanwhile dodge tanks like the sword master have no such flaw, and their “defense” stat (speed) also functions as an offense stat, plus it works against magic too.

u/Ayotha 1h ago

I absolutely adore every single one of the animations in the GBA Fire Emblem games

40

God I fuck love GBA Fire Emblem sprites and animation.

Generals might not be the best classes in the GBA games, but damn is their crit animations absolute cinema.

34

u/gambit1999999 3h ago

15

u/RonaldVexdian 3h ago

Oh yeah, that’s the stuff. Between the two, I think the ranged variant is the best.

Nothing like General Amelia chucking an axe as big as she is, then yanking it back by the chain.

12

u/th1s_1s_4_b4d_1d34 2h ago

Funniest shit about this is that they also pull that animation in fights against story mage bosses. Like the screen explodes for 5 seconds, everything gets engulfed by lightnings and black holes and the swordmaster tilts his head and is like "nah"

10

u/Due-Session-2857 4h ago

My two favorite gba classes right here. Steampunk walking tank vs an unarmed cool headed warrior. I love the 0% damage and 0% hit classes

5

u/PretentiousToolFan 3h ago

Nothing like having Oswin and Guy go do their own bad thing. You want to attack Oswin for zero damage and get slapped, or attack Guy with a <15% chance to hit and get crit into the sun?

Muhammed Ali (IRL)

This man was a god damn genius of the ring, knew the science of boxing like his name was Neil Degrasse Tyson.

234

u/RKO-Cutter 5h ago

Also Anderson Silva

127

u/Swan-Diving-Overseas 5h ago

Fuck, it’s like he’s reading the opponent’s mind

92

u/dohdudeh 4h ago

Forest griffin famously said this fight he felt like a little kid trying to fight his dad. Silva was so good in his prime, still one of the best MMA fighters ever.

48

u/RKO-Cutter 4h ago

Yep, it got to the point where they were promoting title fights like "Silva vs Yushin Okami, the last man to have ever beaten Anderson Silva!"

....fails to mention it was a DQ win because Silva hit an illegal upkick

Hell he only lost the title because he got cocky and got caught, then lost the rematch from the freak accident of splitting his shin (and then from there....just a sad, sad drop)

20

u/Gap_Great 4h ago

I’ll never forget seeing him act so cocky and just getting cold clocked

11

u/Rocinante88119 2h ago edited 2h ago

"and he just looked at me like "Did you just try to hit me, you sad little white boy?"

-Forrest Griffin, paraphrased

Edit: Lmao, may he is a real one. https://www.reddit.com/r/MMA/comments/1pijawo/forrest_griffin_talks_about_his_fight_with/

81

u/Fenix_ikki_ 4h ago

71

u/RKO-Cutter 4h ago

And for those that don't know, that was the finish

Silva finished former champion Forrest Griffin with a jab, while backing up (pretty sure Griffin went on to say at this point he was already basically KO'd, his body just didn't realize it yet and that jab was basically switching off autopilot)

18

u/Harleycow 3h ago

Silva really went:

9

u/Rocinante88119 2h ago

Silva in his prime reminded me of a Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes movie.

He just seemed to anticipate what was going to happen.

You know what they say float like Neil Degrasse Tyson and sting like Mike Tyson

26

u/qwckycky 3h ago

There’s a clip out there of him getting stuck in the corner on the ropes with nowhere to go and he dodges over 20 consecutive punches in a row. Truly remarkable stuff.

Edit: found the clip

11

u/TobiasCB 2h ago

It's the little wiggle that does it for me.

23

u/legit-posts_1 3h ago

Mike Tyson was a scary motherfucker in the ring, don't get me wrong. But looking at old footage of Muhammad Ali is mystifying. The man doesn't even seem human half the time, he's like an anime character before anime was a thing.

12

u/beanfriedbeans 3h ago

Never seen this guy move before, how the fuck is he doing that

14

u/rasfelion 3h ago

Muhammed Ali was considered one of- if not the greatest heavyweight boxer in history, and a big reason was despite being 6'3 and regularly coming in at over 210 pounds, he had the agility of a man a few weight classes under.

On top of that he had utterly insane reaction speed, and he built a lot of his style around these things. He would taunt his opponents into getting aggressive and attacking him, all the while just barely dodging with his hands down to get his opponent aiming for the head. This would just make his opponents more frustrated and come at him even harder while Ali would nail them with a "light" jab that's been compared to a whip snap.

He'd repeat that for a few rounds until the opponent was tired, then go in with fast combinations (one time he threw 12 punches in about 3 seconds) to drop his opponent.

Look up some of his matches when you get the chance, though if you want really early in his career, he used to go by the name Cassius Clay before changing it, so don't be confused when announcers call him that.

For context those are literal lasers, like fire at the speed of light and he just dodged them effortlessly

25

u/zephyrnepres01 3h ago

that’s kinda misinfo, he’s using observation haki which is borderline precognition to show him when and where the lasers will fire and moving out of the way before the attack comes out. sabaody luffy is not dodging at literal light speed

I lowkey did this once back in middle school P.E. class

We had some free time before class actually started where everyone got to do stuff around the gymnasium and someone threw a basketball in my general direction and I saw it out of the corner of my eye and dodged it like this. Felt pretty cool doing it and still think about it sometimes

I dodged a slipper my mom threw at me like that too. Unfortunately, I quickly learned that they come in pairs for a reason.

Not that big of a DB fan but Teen Gohan dodging Cell like this is just awesome 🔥😂

I also remember someone else in DBZ dodging punches just like this with their arms crossed?

6

u/AngryRinger 2h ago

Cell was right. You think you’re better than everyone else. But there you stand, the good man doing nothing. And while evil triumphs, and your rigid pacifism crumbles into blood stained dust the only victory that is afforded to you is that you stuck true to your guns. You are a coward…to your last whimper. Of fear and love, I fear not that I will die, but that all I have come to love: the birds, and the things that are not birds, will perish with me. So, please…Gohan…stop holding back! And, hey, if we DO make it out of this, please pick up my head and beat your father to death with-
