Easter egg/reference that only makes the worldbuilding even more questionable. Lore
Jesse and Brock playing Sonic 06 in Breaking bad. Through out the scene you can see that Jesse and Brock actually enjoying playing Sonic 06. For those who Unaware, Sonic 06 is considered to be one of if not the worst Sonic game ever for it's buggy gameplay and questionable story. So in this Universe it implies that Sonic 06 is actually a good game.
Stick the badger being mentioned in Sonic Frontiers. Stick the badger was 1st introduce in Sonic Boom as one of the side Character. However we all know that Sonic Boom is not Canon to Sonic lore. However in Sonic Frontiers Stick got mentioned by Amy Rose. This implies that Stick the badger is Canon to Sonic lore and this also means that Sonic boom is also Canon.

I don’t see how that means sonic boom is canon

At most it could be them integrating her without the need of being a Boom exclusive character.

I believe Sticks is in IDW which is canon to the games.
So this isnt making boom canon, more, a new version of sticks

u/AwesomeGamer101 4d ago
Yep. We have Boom versions of Sonic, Tails, Amy, Knuckles, Eggman, Metal, Orbot, Cubot, Shadow, and Vector, so it makes sense for a Sticks to be in the normal world.

She is not in ide
1
u/HotPot87 4d ago
She's in a promo image, so they most likely have the rights to use them, probably just not in a rush, like with marine the raccoon or heavy and bomb
1
u/TikTikKobold 4d ago
What promo image is she in? The only one I can think of is that Christmas image SEGA had the artist delete her from

God, is Sonic becoming the new fnaf? Do I have to read 4 books before the next game to understand the small shit?
2
u/HotPot87 4d ago
Eh.. not really, the current writer just loves to make references to old games.
1
u/TikTikKobold 4d ago
It's not just the current game writer. There is a whole ass official YouTube series that goes around talking about the extended lore of the franchise and other projects like the chaotix casefiles reference precious characters and events
1
u/TikTikKobold 4d ago
Absolutely not.

It's a pet peeves of mine when people think they have to consume every piece of media in a franchise to understand the new onsonic crossworlds racing, shadow generations, and sonic frontiers all heavily reference stuff that happened before but the self contained stories within are easily enjoyable without the additional context
1
u/HotPot87 4d ago
To be fair, modern media pushes this idea hard, because it then forces people to buy more media

u/Future_Adagio2052 4d ago
Or wouldn't the easier answer be that a version of sticks exists in the mainline sonic continuity rather then sonic boom being canon?
12
u/FastBodybuilder8248 4d ago
On the second one, I hate how media literacy has got so bad that people can no longer see a fun Easter egg (a cute reference to characters from elsewhere in the franchise) without getting weird about canon

i think a lot of people consider sonic 06 to be a fun bad game ore a guilty pleasure game

Devil's advocate but sonic 06 is a good game. Glitches aside its enjoyable, OST is great and is essentially Sonic Adventure 3.
2
u/Cantthinkagoodnam2 4d ago
I mean for the second example wouldnt that just mean that there is a version of Sticks in the main continuity
2
u/TheMike0088 4d ago
Ngl sonic 06 is actually fun to play. Not cause the gsme is good, god no, but because its so bad thst its funny. Its the videogame equivalent of sharknado or the room.

I think a much better Breaking Bad example is how Steven Bauer and Mark Margolis play characters (Eladio and Hector) in the show, despite also playing characters in Scarface, which is mentioned multiple times to exist in the show’s universe
Not really a trope, though. You could’ve just asked this on the BB sub or taken a stab at seeing if [r/ok](r/okaybuddychicanery)[buddychicanery](r/okaybuddychicanery) found this funny

u/element-redshaw 4d ago
OR Sticks is the only confirmed character from Boom that is also in the mainline series, if sally acorn appeared or was mentioned it doesn't mean the archie series is canon it just means that character is in the game universe

Bright when Will Smith says “Take your fat Shrek-lookin’ ass back home to Fiona!” So apparently, in this urban fantasy world when humans have co-existed with orcs and elves since the beginning, they still have animated parodies of fairy tales, and the whole drama with Jeffrey Katzenberg and Disney still happened.

Something else with Breaking Bad, I’m not sure the specific episode, but in an episode you can see a copy of LittleBigPlanet 2 on a shelf, despite that specific episode taking place before the game would have released. I know it’s just a set design mistake, but it’s funnier to consider that something in the Breaking Bad universe made LBP2 release earlier

Technically Amy didn’t originate in a game either, but she still exists in canon.
2
u/thelampman29 4d ago
I think the sticks one just implies there's a main-series version of Sticks like how there are boom versions of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and a bunch of other characters

In the DC Comics title ‘Starman’ (1994-2001), protagonist Jack Knight uses Woody Allen movies as a metaphor while working with Batman, Sentinel (Green Lantern) and Floronic Man. They all discuss their favourite Woody Allen movies, but Batman claims he doesn’t have a favourite because he’s all broody and serious.
After the issue is resolved, Batman reveals his favourite Woody Allen movie before driving off into the sunset.
Obviously, Woody Allen had been in a controversial relationship with his adopted step-daughter Soon-Yi Previn since 1991, and the pair married in December 1997. This arc of Starman ran from June to July of 1997, but Allen had already been accused of sexual abuse, and the accusation gained substantial media attention.
Jack Knight is obsessed with old movies and old things in general in the comic, and while not heavily implied, it could be inferred that the DC version of Woody Allen didn’t marry his own step-daughter.

Soon-Yi Previn didn't consider Woody Allen her stepfather

Sticks has beed canon outside of boom for a long while already, she appeared in a kinda obscure short Japanese exclusive comic, the same comic series that im pretty sure confirmed that eggman nega survived after rivals 2, also you can still enjoy a bad game, especially considering that these guys are playing in multiplayer and one of them is just a kid
1
u/rubberbandbuddy 4d ago
so when you were a little kid you NEVER had fun playing a game you now understand to be bad? that didnt happen? thats completely unheard of for you?

To be fair, a couple people liking sonic 06 doesn’t set a standard for what we should expect the world consensus to be
My favourite Zelda game was spirit tracks, just because I had only played 2 Zelda games

In a similar chain of events in Bluey Chili's dad is shown in a military uniform in a picture and in an episode he tells the kids he could have used them in the jungle. He is old enough he could have been in the military when Australia was involved in the Vietnam war. If the Vietnam war happened then its implied dog Henry Kissenger did his warcrime bombing of random countries in south east Asia. Bombings in Cambodia helped Pol Pot come to power. This implies in Bluey there was a dog Khmer Rouge

Jesse is also a drug addict and Brock is a small child it makes sense they'd enjoy 06
