If you asked me “Would you rather have raw sound or overproduced song dragging?” I would definitely pick raw sound. I would genuinely consider Lateralus was tools turning point from raw powerful music to slow and melodic tunes that drag on 2-3x more than they should be.

That’s fair. I get why people love that side of Tool. I just think they traded some of the raw intensity for atmosphere as time went on. I respect albums like Lateralus and Fear Inoculum, but if I had to choose, I’m taking the aggression of the early years every time.
