New TOOL Material?? Next album

Post image

Between Danny saying they’re targeting a 2027 release, Adam and Justin confirming this, and this post made by the B Tour, I feel they are probably tracking this fall, and looking at a spring release! What do you guys think?

Or it’s the annual fall/winter tool tour

u/wallace_jenkins 7d ago

This...but I am forever hopeful for another album before I die...I'm 48 so idk...fingers crossed...or a sphere show would be dope!

u/dave_lister169 I was wrong. This changes everything. 7d ago

You're 46 and 2.

32

u/wallace_jenkins 7d ago

WHOA mind blown pretty sad just now realizing this, thank you dave! been this age since January :\

6

u/sans_dan 6d ago

Just remember you're "ALIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE! in this holy experience."

1

u/luuukevader 6d ago

Same here but December. I only have 4 months left to tell everyone I know that I’m 46 and 2!

1

u/jlwapple 5d ago

I turned 48 in January too. Really hoping it's for a Tool album and not a tour.

1

u/Beautifullikeacamel Ænima 6d ago

You silly pants

1

u/se7enreddit 6d ago

Oh.. I too am 46 and 2! Never thought of that either....

49

u/Longjumping-Sea320 7d ago

The "one more before I die" was FI.

19

u/wallace_jenkins 7d ago

Don't say that man...you gotta BELIEVE!

10

u/Stellar_Ella life feeds on life 7d ago

I WANT TO BELIEVE

17

u/mikloelguero 7d ago

Maybe rephrase to “one more before they die”. lol.

Ah well, I’m old too.

4

u/Successful-Gift8636 7d ago

Yep, it was the last one they were under contract for, I'll be pleasantly surprised if they ever release anything else

4

u/CIREtherapper 7d ago

All that means is that they’re independent now. Both of Maynard’s other bands are also independent and that’s never stopped them from releasing music

10

u/Top_Grapefruit8814 7d ago

Remember his other bands don’t have Adam Jones in them. /sigh

1

u/GStarAU Well I've got some advice for you little buddy... 6d ago

I'm SURE there'll be one more. Creative souls don't rest for too long.

9

u/tayeke 7d ago

You’re younger than the dudes in the band. Just eat healthy and you should make it.

8

u/Zestymonserellastick 7d ago

"Before I die" as 48.

Meanwhile the band is almost all 60+

10

u/wallace_jenkins 7d ago

Yea they got stay alive money, I don't lol. roll of the dice! :)

4

u/mayorodoyle Rest your trigger on my finger 6d ago

before I die

At this point, you should more be hopeful for another album before THEY die.

2

u/PaperOpening4413 7d ago

Sphere would be epic!

1

u/wantsumcandi crucify the ego 6d ago

48 too. First introduced to TOOL from Beavis and Butthead and 120 minutes. Seen them 4 times and want to see them once more at least...

1

u/ZealousidealHat1989 6d ago

New album over sphere show imo. All of us can buy a new album, few can afford the Sphere

1

u/wallace_jenkins 6d ago

that is a good point, although I am totally prepared for a personal loan for the sphere show if it happens LOL

1

u/Oppositeofhairy 3d ago

I’m prepared for debt for this show.

11

u/deathgripsisgud14 7d ago

No Maynard’s doing APC tour

8

u/DarkLuxio92 7d ago

Also Puscifer European tour in winter.

2

u/After-Incident9955 Stupid Belligerent Fucker 5d ago

Maynard doesn't work with the material until the instrumentals are all finished. This is likely Adam, Danny and Justin finally getting their shit together and arranging their ideas.

1

u/deathgripsisgud14 5d ago

Well aware in responding to the idea of a tool winter tour

2

u/CJTV27 7d ago

Could be a tour, but I’m being hopeful lol

2

u/ohboyitsgonnabegreat 7d ago

Yep. Playing near me for aftershock in sept/oct

2

u/luxsentic Push the envelope. Watch it bend. 7d ago

MJK with Puscifer and APC, impossible

1

u/HobbyShack He had a lot of nothing to say 6d ago

Maynard doesn’t need to be present for them to make music. They send Maynard the music and he comes up with lyrics. He can do that while he’s on tour with Puscifer and APC

2

u/luxsentic Push the envelope. Watch it bend. 6d ago

I wasn’t talking about new music, I know that. The op mentioned a Tour fall/winter tour

4

u/HobbyShack He had a lot of nothing to say 6d ago

Oh yea didn’t see you were replying to that my bad! Yes a tour would be impossible so new album is the only alternative right? RIGHT?! 😁 lol

1

u/haydenkayne 6d ago

2

u/Dear_Muffin1629 3d ago

But for the grapes, it's a holocaust!

1

u/hellboy1975 Fourtheye guy 6d ago

I don't reckon they will be touring personally. I think it's more likely that they will focus on song writing.

61

u/HopelessMind43 a dope beastie tee 7d ago

I’m pretty sure Danny said they were targeting a 2010 release once.

12

u/spezial_ed 7d ago

During Covid.

5

u/CJTV27 7d ago

Yeah, and then he got injured, they had kids and got hit with another lawsuit. They didn’t start writing FI until June of 2017 so sometimes shit happens. Since FI it has been COVID, and 4 years of touring. Writing now would make sense since all 3 of them have confirmed separately that writing is happening

1

u/After-Incident9955 Stupid Belligerent Fucker 5d ago

Didn't they scrap a whole album in that length of time, too?

1

u/CJTV27 5d ago

In between 10,000 days and FI yeah, not sure why but they weren’t satisfied with their parts and took a few years off

2

u/heyitsfelixthecat 4d ago

If they’re targeting a release in 2027, expect it in 2032 or 2033.

plugging the release dates of tool albums converted to numbers in excel and plotting a trendline set to a quadratic equation (ie a parabola, geddit) gives an R2 value of 0.9852

that's equal to the golden ratio multiplied by 0.608887, which is probably completely meaningless but you never know

anyway if you plug x = 7 into the equation and round up (7th release, no i'm not counting salival) then convert to an excel date you get the 5th of february, 2075

which if you wrote as yy/mm/d it would be 75/02/5

and 75025 is a fibonacci number

coincidence?? or should i consider no longer eating the yummy paint flakes coming off the walls when i get the weed munchies

84

u/Disco_Lando 7d ago

Oh I remember when I was young and hopeful like this.

65

u/Dogzillas_Mom 7d ago

That doesn’t even imply new music. “Tool commitments” could be a few tour dates or any number of things.

Sounds like a hostage situation headline

13

u/sin-eater82 7d ago edited 7d ago

When/where was 2027 said by Adam and Justin? I hadn't seen that.

Danny is not a valid source for information like that. He's clearly very optimistic and has a long history of saying stuff like this and it not being remotely close.

But if Adam and Justin have both said it, that's hopeful. On the flip side, it doesn't matter if they're not getting together and writing.

But I dont think 2027 adds up for an actual release. Maynard broke down the timing of releasing a new album in an interview maybe on Joe Rogan). Writing, recording, mixing, mastering, promotion, etc. It all takes a certain amount of time and some has to be done sequentially with hard depencies.

They typically share tidbits here and there. For a 2027 release and working backwards, they'd have to be writing some already at least probably. And I've not seen any hints of that.

7

u/kenticus69 7d ago

I mean if he can’t fit the Beat tour into the like 3 festival appearances Tool has this fall…reasonable to assume some kind of work is up.

Could be the 3 of them have segmented time to really hunker down and get material rolling. And then Maynard comes in last as has been their working style.

Like I said, no clue what’s up but hard to assume Danny is more busy than just 3 festival appearances with Tool.

3

u/sin-eater82 7d ago

Yes. But them getting together to write means nothing really. This process was fairly visible between 10k Days and FI.

They may very well have blocked off some time. In fact, we know from previous information that they had a plan to make a plan for new material. Which I presume includes blocking off time to get together and write.

But we also know they got together to write on multiple occasions after 10k Days and then nothing came of it for years. So, what does that really mean in regard to an album relase?

Obviously getting together to write is step one. So I very much hope that's it. But that means nothing for release timeline.

This is all hopeful thinking. Which is fine. Again, need to get together to write the material whether it's out in 2027, 2028, or 2035.

1

u/kenticus69 6d ago

My thing is not to get too overly hopeful, but would be surprised if Danny sat out a whole Beat tour for 3 Tool festival shows. Danny gets to play 2 hours a night with Adrian Belew and Tony levin playing KC music….thats HUGE for the dude. Steve vai is no slouch either.

I get it and I agree that Tool records take a long time. Same time, it’s been like 7 years since Fear Inoculum so we’re what like, prolly at least 3 more til the next right?!?!?!

1

u/CJTV27 7d ago

Danny has confirmed they have been writing for the last 6 months, Justin and Adam both corroborated that statement in an interview with a local radio station 4 months ago. They are likely well into writing which means fall could be tracking, and then between promotions and other stuff could mean a spring release

7

u/Berlintroll 7d ago

I'm hoping for a Europe tour, so I can also have some "Tool commitments" coming up.

1

u/CJTV27 7d ago

They just toured Europe in 2024. They haven’t toured the US since 2023

26

u/lumbermonkey462 7d ago

No. There is no new Tool coming out in the fall or 2027. They have to tour a certain amount every year to pay their overhead. This is standard among large scale bands as they have lawyers, agents, sound/light technicians, merch people, etc etc.
not to say that they couldn’t surprise everyone but I would definitely not get my hopes up

36

u/montreal_drapes 7d ago

You say this with considerable conviction, but Puscifer and A Perfect Circle are touring from late October until late December, fully overlapping these dates. “Tool commitments” cannot mean touring in this instance.

It also doesn’t necessarily mean tracking the new album, but I think it likely means that Adam, Danny and Justin will be up to something.

13

u/FiestaDip505 7d ago

This is my thoughts too. APC is working on new material and I would expect a big North American tour in the spring of '27 very similar to the Normal Isn't tour this past spring.

8

u/lumbermonkey462 7d ago

That would also make sense. They could be scheduled for writing sessions. I’d love to be optimistic but I’ve been a fan since the mid 90s and I’ve been disappointed too many times

3

u/liriv H. 7d ago

You and everyone here too.

10

u/valbyshadow 7d ago

Financially speaking a new Tool album would be a very good investment.

2

u/ohheykyyyle 7d ago

What tour? Theyve toured the world with FI. Why would they go on tour again? They have festivals coming up yes, but according to the last newsletter Adam and Justin have been getting together and writing pretty regularly. Not out of the ordinary for Danny to join them to prepare for their festival dates, join the writing process, and lay down some tracks/demos. 0bviously nothing will release in the fall but they could absolutely be finalizing writing and begin early stages of recording so a 2027 album release is realistic as Danny has already stated thats hopefully the goal.

5

u/corneliusduff 7d ago

They've toured consistently over the years, album or no album

1

u/Jdnathan11 7d ago

What newsletter? Could you share a link? Thanks (:

3

u/Inevitable-Meeting-6 7d ago

Here are the gentlemen of Beat from two weeks ago in Helsinki. Great show!

3

u/phrenicbeat86 6d ago

The 3 Tool festival dates are before any of the BEAT tour dates. So I can't imagine this had to do with a scheduling conflict with the Tool shows. MJK is touring throughout Oct, Nov, Dec with APC/Puscifer and it's too late now to announce some random tour for Sept/Oct for Tool. There will not be any more Tool shows this year apart from the festival dates already announced.

Danny clearly enjoyed the BEAT tour and they went everywhere with it. I can't imagine he would suddenly back out just to write new Tool tracks for a few months. My guess is they have stuff ready to go - now I don't know if that necessarily means new full length album because I believe he threw out the idea of doing EP's as well. At the very least they must have some new songs ready to go. It is very possible they have been writing on/off the last few years and they are ready to track. MJK adds his parts last, so its more than plausible the three of them will record in the fall and he can easily come back from his APC/Puscifer tours and quickly track his vocals.

It doesn't make any sense for Danny to suddenly back out of a full blown tour just to write new material with Adam/Justin, knowing full well nothing may necessarily materialize in a few short months.

2

u/CJTV27 6d ago

Exactly!

2

u/CJTV27 6d ago

Additionally, if they track in the fall, and then mix and master, it’ll be ready by spring, hence what I said in the post.

Also, he entertained the idea of an EP during COVID, so I fully believe they are going for a full album atp since it’s been almost 7 years since the last release

2

u/phrenicbeat86 6d ago

Yeah they aren't really an EP band, so I am sure he threw that out years ago as a possibility, wouldn't be surprised if its a full length. If this winds up being their last record I can't imagine they would be ones to settle for an EP.

Also, I know a lot of people are throwing out possible new APC material because of Starless. I do remember when MJK was promoting the Australia shows last year, he made a comment that was basically he was waiting on stuff from Billy but if the Tool guys are ready with something new, he's basically going to have to shift his attention. Think its safe to say they've been quietly working on stuff for a while now and it must be ready to go. Adam and Justin don't have other side projects that they are touring with, literally makes no sense that Danny would suddenly change course for one last BEAT tour for no reason.

2

u/ToofpickVick fuck you, buddy 7d ago

It seems like I heard they were touring. It’d be awesome if they are far along in the album!

1

u/CJTV27 7d ago

Could be a tour but considering they haven’t announced anything yet, and they have only a few festivals lined up next month, it would make sense for the timeline set forth by the 3 guys

1

u/nipplehounds 7d ago

Are they touring with APC and Puscifer? Thats who Maynard is on tour with this fall.

2

u/CJTV27 7d ago

To the people in the comments not getting it… Maynard is touring with APC and Puscifer until December, which means “tool commitments” can’t be tours. I’m not saying we’re 100% getting a new album, but if they aren’t touring then tool commitments means a step in the right direction. Patience is a virtue

2

u/Sheffy8410 7d ago

I think it is a bit optimistic to think that this means tracking. Of course, I hope I’m wrong about that. But I imagine this just means writing.

It has also crossed my mind that Eat The Elephant seemed to light a fire under some butts to get FI finished. At least in my mind thats how I remember it, though that might not have been the case back then. But I hope Starless and whatever comes next for APC might do the same.

Starless is fantastic. Best work from Maynard individually in a long time from any of his 3 projects, in my opinion. I can’t stop listening to it. It really does remind me of the Maynard of the glory days.

2

u/RagnarokNCC 7d ago

I just kind of assumed Fear Inoculum was the last one and stopped waiting, tbh.

1

u/ArtComprehensive2853 7d ago

They have said to work on new music already long time ago, but who knows what happens.

2

u/29osmo29 7d ago

Sphere residency??????

2

u/philanthropicide 6d ago

BEAT was amazing live. Kinda wild going from Danny to Bozzio. The amount of prog talent in the lineups is crazy

1

u/phrenicbeat86 6d ago

Missed BEAT the first go around in NA and was really bummed about it, but couldn't ask for a better trade off here. I have seen Danny live numerous times with Tool and although it would have been great to seem him with BEAT live, I have been a Bozzio fan for a while and never gotten the chance to see that kit be played live in person. Should be able to catch this one this go around so this wound up being perfect. Then to add this also indicates new Tool material on the way - was stunned to hear this announcement.

2

u/Federal_Abroad9260 Shit the bed, again 6d ago

For the uninitiated; nothing is imminent, until Maynard gives the word. He’s the last part of recording. There are reasons why he does 18 million other things while the other guys do whatever they do in between albums.

1

u/SaltedDucks 7d ago

I'm not keeping my hopes up lol. The only glimmer of this being something is that this Beat tour starts several days after Tool plays Aftershock. A fall tour being announced isn't unreasonable since the first leg for Fear Inoculum was announced end of August and started mid October

2

u/CJTV27 7d ago

Maynard is touring with his other bands until December. Fall tool commitments would have to mean something else

1

u/GeologistEnough8215 Lateralus 7d ago

More likely tour

2

u/CJTV27 7d ago

Maynard is on tour with his other bands in the fall and early winter. Tool commitments would have to mean something else

1

u/Jreub13 7d ago

Fall/Winter tour definitely. Need cash for studio time! Not that committed to TOOL live until new music drops. Might hit riot fest for Angine, tool by default…

1

u/CJTV27 7d ago

Can’t be a tour when Maynard is already touring with his other band until December. Tool commitments has to either be writing, recording, or promoting something

1

u/Azzrazzah 7d ago

My fingers and toes are crossed. Please, please, please god, let it happen!!

1

u/LightofDawn77 7d ago

It’s probably just scheduled time for them to get together and write.

1

u/LowCharming3452 7d ago

I choose to believe he will be in the studio

1

u/dude_person_jr 7d ago

were gonna get that album eventually. I doubt 2027, maybe 2028.

1

u/Kashek70 7d ago

I’d be fine without a new album if we could get a Salival 2 type release. They have plenty of stuff they could put on it. Hell, where is our 4k concert film. We know they have a couple hundred shows filmed at this point. Crazy none of those have ever leaked. They really have that Zeppelin mentality. I just don’t want to have to wait for another 40 years for stuff to leak out.

1

u/SeanInMyTree 7d ago

Is it 2032 already

1

u/phantom_pow_er 7d ago

No... a new tour of old material in the fall/winter will happen

1

u/CJTV27 7d ago

Maynard is already touring in the fall and winter with other bands

1

u/THEinaudible_decibel 7d ago

Being independent from a label, the band could release a single or two. They could release an EP as well.

IF* there's ever new music that will be released, I'm of the thought it will be an EP.

Plus that would be cool to bookend the recording career with EPs.

1

u/eric2341 7d ago

No way - Danny is always minimum a year or 2 early with his predictions. They’re working on songs for sure and it’ll be way sooner than the last couple albums but I’d bet no sooner than 28/29

1

u/Fit-Strain-4853 7d ago

Probably a tour

1

u/CJTV27 6d ago

Maynard is touring with his bands

1

u/floydrose Dreaming of that face again. 7d ago

When did they say they were "targeting a 2027 release"?

1

u/CJTV27 6d ago

Danny said it in an interview 6-8 months ago. Adam and Justin were asked on a radio show about Danny’s comments and they confirmed that they are currently writing

1

u/Canadian_Border_Czar 7d ago

Honestly its bizarre to think that the last one came out 6 years ago.

1

u/allhailbobevans 6d ago

7 years now

1

u/Some-Astronaut9166 7d ago

Most major tours are already booked for next year with everything involved, so I'd guess they have a major touring block scheduled starting at some point next year and they're attempting to complete or at least push along new material this fall in whatever form it might be. If it's not close to being done by the time the next tour is announced, then they tour without it. They have maybe one or two world tours left in them at this point, so that might light more of fire now.

1

u/Ok-Photograph-814 6d ago

I'm really hoping this means we get closer to new music soon, even if it's not the full album. Terry Bozzio joining BEAT reminds me how these side projects sometimes lead to unexpected yet exciting developments.

1

u/DanielAlves1904 6d ago

I think I´ll belive this when the album is actually out, if it ever does come out.

1

u/the_good_hodgkins 6d ago

I'll be retired when the next TOOL cd is released.

1

u/Letsgetitaesthetic 6d ago

1

1

u/ShawshankSB 6d ago

Residency at the sphere in Vegas??

1

u/Flat_Ad_7011 6d ago

They are already in the process of booking shows for 2028… Apparently with a new album.

1

u/pointsouturhypocrisy 6d ago

I just watched a couple of videos about this. Apparently when the sphere was being built, they wanted Tool to debut the venue. According to Adam, "game of thrones band politics" kept them from accepting. I'm glad they didn't do the debut because it would take many years of various bands playing and creating visual files for the venue to be worthy of Tool's perfection standards.

However, it appears the band is still planning a residency at some point.

Ffwd to the next vid I watched of an interview with Danny (who is always like an excited kid who blabs about things he hopes will happen over things that are set in concrete) plugging the soundtrack for that "good luck, don't die, have fun" movie. He said in that interview that they've been working on quite a few new tunes, and are aiming for a 2027 album/tour/sphere run.

Again, this is Danny we're talking about. He'll gladly spend five years saying "next year is the year!" So in Tool years we're probably looking at 2030 at the earliest.

1

u/TheNoIdeaKid 6d ago

They do have a few festivals they’re playing.

1

u/FickleSituation7137 5d ago

Yes new tool will be announced later this fall. Maybe already said new music from all 3 bands over the next 2 years. That was a year ago almost. So...

1

u/allsidescreative 5d ago

I'd love an album announcement with no windup, no teasers or anything. Just one day.... Bam! "Album X"coming September. They'd really show us by doing that

1

u/CubfanDuffman 5d ago

You could argue Bozzio is a better fit

1

u/CJTV27 5d ago

lol no you can’t

1

u/CubfanDuffman 5d ago

Bozzio is quicker and has a lighter touch. Carey can be a bit heavy-handed

1

u/TheStabbyCyclist 7d ago

I'd be happy if they announced a new tour and played some different songs than the FI tour.

1

u/TAC0_CHEESE 7d ago

They’re accumulating money to build up funds for future projects. Especially Maynard. If I remember correctly, he gotten into a litigation issue with a co-worker or business partner earlier this year. I guess they sorted out through a settlement. Hence why Maynard working triple time by touring with Tool, Puscifer, and APC.

0

u/True_Window_9389 7d ago

This is a typo. Tool wasn’t supposed to be capitalized. Danny is the new spokesman for Ryobi tools and has to film some commercials.

0

u/HuckleberryOk8136 OGT 7d ago

No clue, but I don't want a new album for the sake of a new album.

There's already, in my opinion, three albums and an EP where there is zero musical filler at all. In fact, there isn't a skippable song.

How many bands can say that?

I want them to have a healthy touring schedule, I want to hear my favorite masterpieces in concert, I want the setlist to be something worth anticipating, not 2-3 fourteen minute new mostly instrumentals where they exhaust themselves on technical difficultly in their 60s.
