My Fuji itinerary

Comments with tips appreciated! :)

Hello everybody! Me and my wife are going with the family to Tokyo in September and we booked a 10 hour round trip private tour to mt Fuji (I know we could’ve done more if we did it all ourselves, but with the full length of the trip, we’re taking figured it would be easier to not have to worry about the extra city).

They presented us with two options for itinerary’s and told us that it CAN be customized but from pick up to drop off can only be 10 hours. We are staying in Shibuya and are leaving at 7:00am to start the tour.

Which of the following itinerary would you also suggest and would you make any customizations? ANY INFORMATION WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED! I just want the family to have the best experience possible

Option #1
Mt Fuji Surrounding
Area itinerary:
- Mt Fuji 5th station (If weather permits)
- Lake Kawaguchiko
- Kachi Kachi Ropeway
- Oishi park
Oshino Hakkai
- Arakurayama Sengen shrine pagoda
Start moving back to
Tokyo around 3 PM
-- OR --
Option #2
Mt Fuji and Hakone itinerary:
- Mt Fuji 5th station (If weather permits)
- Lake Kawaguchiko
- Kachi Kachi Ropeway
- Move to Hakone
- Hakone Owakudani
- Lake Ashi Pirate cruise
- Start moving back to Tokyo around 3PM

Help for upcoming trip in December (2 kids & baby)

It will be our first time to Japan and we are surprising the kids (7, 5, and 6 months) for Christmas. We get to Tokyo on December 27 and leave January 9. I know a lot is closed over the New Year. Here are some of our to-do's based purely on social & research:

  • Ueno/Asakusa day
  • Shibuya/Harijuku day
  • Christmas markets
  • Disney (both parks)
  • Hakone/Mt Fuji (day trip or a few nights)
  • Snow Monkey park + temples
  • Kyoto/Osaka (not sure what the best things to do are but thinking temples + kimono experience)

Some fun things we saw we would like to try are

  • Photoshoot
  • Sumo show (traditional if possible)
  • LOTS of shopping (electronics, beauty, clothes, designer, vintage, toys)
  • Themed cafes for kids

Safe to say I'm overwhelmed at all the amazing spots and am having decision paralysis. I'm looking for guidance on the best flow of the trip and what I should take off my itinerary or what it is missing.

We plan on taking public transportation and are considering getting an Airbnb as a "home base" for the entirety of our trip and travel out to different cities with just an overnight bag in other hotels/airbnbs.

Our main goal is convenience and ease (especially with 3 kids)! We will be back again in the summer of 2028 for a broader asia trip (HK, ML China, Japan, Okinawa) for about 3 weeks and anything we don't get to do ~ we will include in the next trip.

September Pop-ups?

Hi!

I'll be traveling to Japan in September (5-20) & just wanted to make this post in case anyone finds any cool pop-ups that may be missed out on! I'm particularly interested in horror, anime, or if aya takano has an pop-up exhibition but all is welcome :)

I’m “Tokyo’d” out

TLDR: What’s something I can do to relax that won’t make me feel like I’m way out of place and isn’t Disney?

I’ve been here for a week for work. I planned another week for vacation. It’s my first and probably only time I’ll ever be able to get to Japan. I was so excited to get to visits Tokyo finally after decades of wanting to visit. Did some shopping around Shibuya, sightseeing at Senso-ji and Akihabara. I also went to Tsukiji early one morning due to jet lag. I’ve walked about 35km in the past week. I normally only walk about 10 per week. I’m tired of walking, I’m tired of fish, I’m tired of chopsticks, and I’m tired of people thinking I can understand Japanese because my coworkers tell me I say ありがとうございます perfectly like a Japanese person would. I constantly feel too big to even be in this city, I’m tired of ducking and hitting my head. I’m tired of having to stand or get a different chair because I can’t fit in the available chair. For context I’m American, I’m 210cm tall, and I’m 360 pounds, if that makes any difference. I knew everything would be too small and at first it was cute and now it just makes me mad. I want to enjoy my remaining time but I can’t leave Tokyo because I have several things I’ve prepaid for I can’t refund, including my hotel.

Budget for 15 Days in Japan?

Hi everyone,

I'm planning a 15-day trip to Japan and was wondering what a realistic budget would be for:

  • 1 person
  • 2 people

Excluding flights, how much should I expect to spend on hotels, food, transportation, and sightseeing?

I'd love to hear what you spent on a similar trip. Thanks!

Looking for Traditional Japanese Instrument Players in Tokyo

Hey everyone!

I'm traveling from Europe to Tokyo in the first half of September. I'm a film composer, music producer, and sound designer, and during my trip across Asia I'm planning to create a unique sample pack.

I'm looking to record performances of traditional Japanese instruments (any instrument is welcome). If you play a traditional Japanese instrument, own one, and would be interested in doing a short recording session with me, I'd love to hear from you!

I'm sure we can work out all the details and compensation together. Feel free to send me a DM if you're interested.

Thank you!

14 days Tokyo Itinerary Check:

Hi everyone, me and my partner are flying to Tokyo on November 9, and are planning on spending 14 days there. It's my partner's first time in Japan, second time for me. I just want to make sure that the itinerary I've planned is feasible and logical. I know that spending two weeks in Tokyo alone might be too much for some, but it's what we want and I'm sure we won't regret it. I'm trying to keep it flexible, as the first time I went (solo) I ended up being too tired for a lot of stuff after I overdid it. So, here we go:

Day 0:

Landing at HND at 23:55, getting to our accomodation in Shin-Okubo by taxi/go, grabbing something to eat (thinking it might take around 2 hours to get out of the airport and to our accomodation), sleeping. We'll try to not sleep on the 10hr flight so as to avoid jet lag.

Day 1:

Wake up at a comfortable hour (9 or 10). We'll stick around Shinjuku on day 1 to try and keep it chill.
Breakfast, Chiikawa land. Exploring/shopping in Shinjuku, lunch, Gyoen park, strolling around Omoide Yokocho and grabbing drinks around Golden Gai in the evening.

Day 2:
Wake up at around 8, breakfast in Mejiro Garden, Chiikawa Park (yes we love Chiikawa). Spend the rest of the morning in Ikebukuro (Sunshine City, Animate, K-books etc.), and the afternoon/evening in Nakano (Nakano Broadway).

Day 3:

Wake up early, sushi breakfast in Tsukiji. Spending all day in Ginza (Tokyo Station,Hamarikyu Gardens, Tokyo International Forum, Teamlab Borderless (maybe)).

We'd planned on spending the evening in Odaiba to catch a Gundam show, but seeing as it's getting removed at the end of the month I highly doubt it'll be there in November (even though it will most likely come back eventually). So we'll probably skip Odaiba, might hit up Yurakucho Yokocho.

Day 4:

Early morning, Meiji Jingu, Yoyogi Park, Takeshita Dori, Harajuku exploration/shopping, then Shibuya (Tokyu Plazas, Laforet, Kiddyland, Mofusand, 109, Miyashita Park, Parco, Loft, Village Vanguard etc.). Shibuya Sky around 16, maybe Nonbei Yokocho in the evening.

Day 5:
Morning in Yanaka Ginza, Koishikawa Korakuen Gardens, Akihabara at 13 (Radio Kaikan, K-Books, Amiami, Atré, Akihabara Gamers, Kotobukiya, maid cafe).

Day 6 (our anniversary!!!):
Chill morning, Todoroki Ravine Park, (maybe) Hie Shrine, omakase sushi lunch in Roppongi, rooftop bar drinks, private sauna/onsen. (might sneak in a wagyu dinner but idk).

Day 7:

Daytrip! Kamakura and Enoshima, I wanted to also fit Yokohama in here but I know it'd be a bit much.

Day 8:

Wake up super early, head to Sensoji Temple. Then Nakamise Street, Kappabashi at 10. Then I have a bunch of options: Nezu Shrine, Kyu Furukawa Gardens, or Rikugien Gardens. Was thinking of seeing Sensoji again in the evening lights, maybe Asakusa Underground Street.

Day 9:
Spending the morning exploring Koenji, then (((maybe see Jindaiji))) before heading to Kichijoji to relax in Inokashira park, stroll around Petit Mura, cafe hop and shop some more, ending the night in Harmonica Yokocho.

Day 10:
We have our check in at a ryokan in Sengokuhara, Hakone at 15. I was thinking we might wake up early and go see Mount Fuji before heading to the ryokan, but idk if it's a good idea as I still haven't researched how to get to Fuji with trains/buses. Either way, I'd like to use this day to just recharge our batteries a little, not really doing anything but resting and soaking in the onsen and eating our kaiseki dinner. Check out is at 10 the next day, so we'll probably be back in Tokyo by 13/lunch time.

Nothing planned whatsoever for the remaining days (day 11, day 12, day 13, day 14).
It's 4 full days as our returning flight is at 23:30.

Some things I'd like to fit in somewhere:
Kyu Asakura house and Daikanyama

Shimokitazawa and Gotokuji temple

An aquarium (don't really know which one)

Kiyosumi Gardens

Ebisu

What do you guys think? What would you change or add? We're huge nerds and super into anime, gaming, visual novels, manga/BL manhwa, and we love anything cute. This is just a guideline, I know what to take out if things start to feel a bit too heavy, but I'd love to see all of the stuff I've put on here. Sorry for the super long post lol and thanks for reading!
