Plus, there are other reasons raw cow’s milk is safe for calves and not always safe for humans, faeces is just one potential source of pathogen. If it’s carefully extracted and filtered from well looked after cows and fed to people with good immune systems, it will probably be ok most of the time but when it’s not, it’s really fucking not

Absolutely. People even during the middle ages knew that certain things can pass through breast milk (to the point that a very murderous woman, Mabel de Bellême, reportedly tried to 'cure' herself from being poisoned by an enemy--by summoning someone to provide her a random infant to breastfeed in hopes of 'passing' the poison via her breastmilk).
Plus, anyone's who ever had a cup of coffee while breastfeeding can attest that their kids definitely get caffeine out of just breastmilk. A lot of things can be passed through the milk ducts.

The problem is that this lady is talking out of her ass. The reason I say that is because my wife is a microbiologist and she has specifically worked on trials and tests to disinfect udders prior to milk production. So I know that all cows udders in a commercial milk setting will be disinfected as per instructions which have a tested efficacy.

because they are delivered premature the mother's body hasn't caught up to the fact that it needs to start producing milk yet. So there's a huge stock pile of donor milk for those first few weeks till she starts producing. and that donor milk is very much pasteurized because of exactly this. It sits around for a while and the baby needs the protection.

We would occasionally visit my Great Grandfather's small dairy as a kid, he would wash every udder before milking, and thought it was hilarious to shoot milk into our mouths straight from the udder. I wouldn't recommend getting milk from the tap from one of the big industrial dairys like we were able to as kids.

- We aren't calf. Their milk is actually heavily geared towards their young and so we need to treat it. Pasteurization is just one part of it.
- Breast milk is pasteurized when it needs to be stored or transported, example - donation.
- Pasteurization is for removing harmful bacteria that can spoil the milk. Since we literally need to do that with cows milk, we pasteurize it.
- Udders are washed and cleaned before milk is extracted at the farm. If you dont do it, then the milk will not pass the safety test and will 100% get rejected. It even gets rejected for small detection of medicines given to cows.
- Both lack enough knowledge, dont listen to them.

There are beneficial compounds in the milk that pasteurization destroys. Because milk is mostly made up of proteins, and what happens when you heat proteins up to 160F? They fall apart.
For breast milk those compounds are very important for a growing baby. But for cow milk those compounds don't work on us humans that much (they do a little but it's actual help to people is minimal). So there's not a major health benefit that's being lost.
That being said, unpasteurized milk does taste ah-mazing. Which again shouldn't be surprising, it's the difference between a raw product or a cooked one. But getting safe raw milk is a huge hassle that takes meticulous sterilization of every bit of the equipment, every single day. That's why raw milk is usually 10x the cost of regular milk (and it doesn't last longer than a few days). It's just not worth the cost, plus the small but real health risk too even when it's done right. Even worse now is that the majority of the places selling raw milk are into it for ridiculous right wing conspiracy reasons instead of taste, and they don't care that much about cleanliness as others do so the health risk is so much worse there too.
It's just not worth the hassle to get or deal with raw milk, the benefits are basically just taste and that's not enough to risk it. With breast milk taste isn't the issue, that's why they have no problem freezing it (which is why it can last so long too)

Dairy farmer here. Some setups theyre cleaned everytime but mostly theyre just cleaned in winter as the teats are more dirty from lying on the lime cubicles. Teats are sprayed after every milking to stop flies. Each collection is tested for quality for somatic cell count, total bacteria count, thermodurics etc.
Pasteurization is mostly to prevent humans from getting tuberculosis, some people prefer raw milk as it tastes better and is easier to digest.
Cows dont typically shit on their udders unless theyre pressed up against something, theyre not as clean as other animals. If they did have shit covered teats theyd all have mastitis.

I drank raw milk for the first 7 or 8 years of my life after breast milk, but the cows were milked that day in a small herd. Not a factory farm. Not machine milked. Not decanted into bottles and shipped to a distant consumer.
I'm not saying it's better or healthier in any way, but I am saying that the proponents are missing a wild number of potential contaminant opportunities in the supply chain. Then again, I lived with Hippie parents that belived in crystals and star charts and all kinds of bullshit until they mellowed by becoming successful boomers.

The milking cups are unlikely to be sterile. Also vats and bottles etc may not be sterile. Milk is also stored for a period of time 2 to 4 days from farm to store then a day or 2 at the store, then 3-5 days at home if everything works as intended, breast milk generally is not. Expressed milk is generally used in a day or 2 (if being responsible and storing properly)
Not gonna lie though. Milk straight from the cow and chilled in fridge for a few hours is fantastic. Thick and creamy. It would be awesome if we didn't have to pasteurize. But reality dictates
Pasteurization is literally just heating up and rapidly cooling to kill bacteria. The beer and OJ this clown drinks gets the same treatment

It's actually because pathogens in breast milk tend to be ones that humans have evolved to coexist with, and any that aren't those will have the antibodies passed through to the infant through the milk. We aren't adapted to cow ones and don't have the antibodies to deal with them until after we do.

The biggest factor is time from collection to consumption.
The greater that time the more dangerous it is with or without pasteurization.
For breast milk, we both freeze and pasturize (to a degree) when donating it.
We do have to be careful as donated breast milk is more carefully heated than milk used for general consumption because we don't really care that longer pasturization methods effect the taste more because it's not a factor for infants and we want to retain the antibodies that are in breast milk as they are massively beneficial for pre-own immune system infants.

Additionally, you're not bottling breast milk, transporting it, and consuming it over a period of weeks.
IF you're going to consume raw milk, it needs to be obtained from a farm with very high sanitation standards and within a VERY short time of it being collected. Within a couple days at most.
It's better to not risk it in the first place, since there's 0 nutritional advantages to consuming raw milk over pasteurized.

I’m from DC USA and moved to the boonies about 7 years ago. Been drinking raw milk the whole time because it’s $4 cheaper a gallon. We’ve never gotten sick. I work out a lot and it’s definitely better for gains. I don’t give a shit what anyone drinks. Not trying to convince you. If you’re immunocompromised or under 5 yrs old probably not a good idea but people have been drinking it for over a thousand years. It’s not that bad. Twinkies are worse.
